For anyone with a financial interest in SL, this is a major red flag.

I am not saying the end is near, but I'd watch the management decisions very closely from here on out.

A CEO stepping down is never a sign that the company is thriving and doing well financialy.

Considering that LL has been operated for the past several years like it was someone's hobby business in the basement, I welcome a move towards effective management.

Yeah, I'm wondering about the redflag thing myself.

Like I said, I am not saying it is bad yet. It is just a red flag to keep an eye on things.

I have heard rumor that LL has had it's book out on the streets for about a year now, seeing what type of offers they get.

I would not be very surprised if this some how leads to an our-right buyout. Often companies will bring in a new CEO with experience in such a thing to orchestrate a sale.

Now that I think of it, I believe this happened with REAL.

Philip is a visionary - Linden Lab has grown big enough that it needs a more traditional executive and management style. This was hinted at during his SLCC keynote - that Linden has to stop being so much of a "lab" and more of a "business." I wish him the best of luck, and hope this will lead to more stability!

This should have happened a few years ago already. I'm not surprised in the least bit that it happened though to be honest I never thought he would actually ever agree to it and do it.

Heres hoping for the best. I agree it can be a red flag for the company being on shaky ground, but it also can be the first step in the right direction for LL.

First thought:Makes good sense. Rosedale isn't leaving, he'll still be chairman and work at LL day to day. But they'll be bringing in someone whose specialty is running a company, not developing new technology, and that is overdue.

But ... damn. End of an era. I talked to Rosedale once. I remember how genuinely enthused he was about the company and how he wanted to hear ideas on how to make it a better place - even from me, a "nobody." I can't help but personally like the guy, despite the faults in LL management. I hope the transition is a smooth one - for him and us.

I would lie through my teeth agreeing to work within the existing corporate culture, then wholly reeducate the workforce when in office. It'd just be plain unfortunate that two-thirds of them would have to be replaced in the first year.
