I'd suggest looking at your alts and seeing if they have a Forum account set-up - that may give you a better handle on what it does cover ... My own two (non-verified alts) don't have accounts .

Unverifieds were actually allowed access to the forums for the first 2 months after they announced the unverified program. Forum accounts are only created the first time you log onto the forum. Most people's born dates on the forum are more recent than their SL born date because of this. (For example, my forum birthday is 3 days after my real SL rezday.) If you've never accessed the SL forum, you don't have an account there.

I reckon that more SLers visit the official forum than players of other games, though, due to its complexity. For most other games only a very small percentage of the population ever visits the forums.

All the Payment Info Used accounts have forum accounts (including the search ) but the two info on file not used don't , None of the others have .

So it looks like the forum is only for Payment Info Used - so the 853,000 forum users are the universe of payment info used .

If that's the case, then they've changed the behavior... it used to actually create your forum account upon first use. Like I mentioned before, the forum account date usually differs. This is also true for my payment-verified alts. Weird.

EDIT: Oh... I guess you weren't really addressing WHEN the forum accounts were created...

You're wrong about the last one.

Payment info used just means that at some point L$ were bought with the "payment info on file." I have a couple of "basic" alts with that status.

So do I. I think they were limiting the amount of alts you could use payment info with but they didn't have to be premium at all. I went back to basic with Io but my payment info is still on file and I can still buy $L with it.

I'm guessing this is an attempt to leep people from gaming the new search engine for one (Since profile links count towards your search rank now), and keep database load down for another. Considering how many people loudly complain about letting people sign up for free to Second Life it'll be interesting to see if those same people applaud or rebuke this move.

Does this mean the estate tools will no longer display these people? that would kind of suck for estate security...

Only the new search (first page of the search panel) has this restriction. If you search under the old People tab, you'll find them.

This doesn't seem be to be case anymore, but I'll do another check on it I think before I say definatively. You can definately see avatar profile in the new search, I think it's refering more to seeing the data they contain like their picks.

It is the data, some avatars won't count in relevancy when they have picks on their profile. You don't need to have payment info on file to be an avatar that counts towards picks.

I honestly kind of like this, actually. I have a basic account but with payment info used. I don't have a credit card but I've bought lindens through paypal.
Also, I really don't think there should be any unverified business owners, I'm generally only cashing out lindens now but when I first started (and before I opened) I needed a few Ls for uploads. (And by "a few Ls for uploads" I actually mean spending way outside the budget of a student on virtual fashion).
