For the last two days, There's been a furor in the SL Beta Group about whether or not Oskar Linden has been fired by LL.

But so far all we have seen is a lot of chat taken out of context, and 0 proof or confirmation. So if anyone has any definitive proof of his firing, Please come forward.

The facts seem to be that he went on a Week's vacation starting Thursday:

There was nothing at the Thursday meeting to indicate he was fired.

So On vacation, or fired? That is the question.

As far as I can tell, the rumor originates with Prok. I don't know enough to judge how reliable Second Thoughts is about this sort of thing.

Oskar has always been one of the most helpful Lindens imaginable, and I appreciate that he did not suffer fools or griefers to disrupt his work and our world. I hope he's going to be continuing to do so, but I fear that he was too good at his job and so had to be removed.

Well it started even before that. Some saw his talk about going on vacation and spun being fired out of that or something.

So far the only people who seem to be originating the story are 3 members of the Firestorm team. Which is also odd that only those 3 know this info.

From there it's spread like wildfire as rumors do, but being the weekend and Oskar being gone, it's a perfect storm of wild rumor and no way to do any verification.

He will not be fired. He is needed to do his job. If he is fired, sl shot themselves in the foot. I don't even care for him and even I know he is important to sl.

The story about the griefer incident is clearly no cause for dismissal. However, virtually every weekly server release in the last couple of months has been followed by a rollback of a RC or main channel version, including a couple that were really in the 'disaster' category. This was particularly noticeable after a successful few months of server upgrades. I had put this down to a general QA failure at the lab which also led to the Viewer 3.4.1 fiasco - but maybe Oskar has been fingered to take the blame. I hope not because he is an unusually helpful and communicative Linden.

All I have to say is that if it is true (and let's hope not, as now is not the time to be in the job market when you've been sacked by your previous employer) then Oskar will hopefully come to see it as the gift from the universe it is. I'd rather lie on the road and be run over by a truck than have to deal with the half baked dross the devs here dish out. Yeah, I know, let's not hurt the poor dears' feelings but to have to cope with undocumented design where by the look of it scrum only goes as far as letting the devs do what they want before it reverting to waterfall for testing is a recipe for disaster in this setting - as we keep seeing.

just putting something into production and not having it crash the system is not a criteria for success - unless you're LL I suppose.

prokofy didn't start this rumor. i heard it yesterday at the end of andrew's oh(office hour aka group metting). i went to SL Beta Group chat and asked if it was true or not. i posted there the part about oskar taking a vacation(that happened thursdsay during oskars oh), and what i heard after andrew's oh from tankmaster.
sadly i don't think anymore that this is just a rumor. it really seems that oskar is no longer a linden. i talked to jessica lyon and she confirmed that oskar told her himself that he was fired. from what i understand it was a surprise for oskar too, and the reasons for the termination seem to be vague. usually such unexpected news r usually shocking.
i hope that oskar will login in sl using his non-linden avatar to clear things up. if he does show up, it won't be a bad idea if people showed their support.
p.s.
i really trust jessica and i can't believe that she would be joking about such a serious matter.

So after getting the ok from Oskar this morning to speak of it because (he wasn't told he could not speak of it), I thought I would be able to settle some of the flames and unnecessary drama going back and forth between users in the SL Beta group by confirming that the rumor.. at least in part was true. Oskar no longer works for the lab as of yesterday morning, I’m not saying he was fired, or quit or got laid off! I’m just saying he no longer works there and will let Oskar decide what he tells you about why when he gets on his feet. I will also not confirm whether or not what prok stated in her blog as a reason is correct.

I said the following in SL Beta group.
"[2012/11/03 11:07] Jessica Lyon: Right so... apparently lots of folks with lots of uncertainty as to the truth behind Oskar losing his job at LL. I'll confirm on my own word, this is fact.. sadly. Oskar has been a very good friend of mine for many years, and still is. He is atm working out what he's going to do next. And when he's ready he'll come in here on his resi account and confirm things."

Unfortunately that wasn't enough because some people think I would gain some how from putting my word on something which could and would be easily provable in short time, thus ruining my credibility and the integrity of the Phoenix Firestorm Project to which I lead had it been a lie. (eye rolls)

Oskar no longer works at LL, and I fully expect that very few will take my word for it and therefore time will have to ultimately tell all.

How do I know Oskar no longer works at the Lab? Because aside from working with Oskar with the Firestorm project on server issues, Firestorm issues, attending his user groups etc. Oskar and I are also good friends and have been for many years. I have an enormous amount of respect for the man, he is good people.

I’ll also say with most certainty that Oskar will be disappointed to see all this drama and infighting among residents over this, especially what’s been going on in the SL Beta group. I have made him aware that residents are up in arms, but he doesn’t know they’re fighting with each other as well. I would love to see some solidarity from you all to be honest….

When he is ready I am certain he will log in on his resident account and let folks know, I am uncertain as to whether people will believe it’s Oskar on the resident account… shame that…

How did Tank find out? Because, I told my trusted development team of the bad news, as we all admire and respect Oskar.

How did prok find out? Well it would seem someone on my development team leaked the info to her, wouldn’t it… No, I don't believe it was Tank. He shouldn't have said anything at the user group until I had an OK from Oskar, but he wouldn't have leaked it to Prok.

So there you have it, do with it as you please.. drama, troll, disbelieve, whatever but time will tell all.

But I would really rather see you folks actually show some solidarity for Oskar’s sake. He has a lot of respect for the residents who worked with him. He loves you guys.

I'm not sure why he would be disappointed. What would be disappointing is leaving without making your departure clear, or having someone do that for you. Someone in a position to really know that is.

It's suspicious that the only 3 people he would tell all happen to be Firestorm Devs, and he doesn't tell anyone else he knows in SL, at all?

And it happens the day he starts Vacation?

And the reason given is 'he banned someone and they threatened to sue"?

You realize if LL fired every Linden that banned someone who turned and threatened to sue, there would be no lindens left. The TOS states LL can ban anyone at any time for any or no reason. Such a threat is baseless.

So excuse me if after hearing all that, if I, and others, want some real confirmation from someone who is actually in a position to know. Because under the circumstance, it sounds incredibly far fetched and improbable.

I'm sure Oskar would understand that.
