Yep. LL believes that someone has been violating the TOS from that computer. Usually that someone will have received an email about an abuse report before this happens - but not always, and often that ends up in a spam filter anyway.

I never received any email. I think it's someone who has a grudge against me from a furry imageboard that is modeled after /b/

The person once posted on the imageboard that he feels me to be a waste of skin and that i should diaf. It seems the Lindens are believing someone who has a grudge against me.

If you can log in from the website but not the client, you can get in by changing the MAC address of your network card/device. For some reason I attribute to SL's general buginess, you can get MAC banned even if your avatar is in good standing.

One of the perma-banned may have spoofed a MAC address which just happens to be yours. Even happened to a former Linden once.

I had the same thing a couple of weeks or so ago ! was bloody worrying the fix was so simple after i posted about it in here , all you need to do is turn off your pc and modem then turn back on again a couple of minutes later and if all go es well you get a new ip address and voila you are back to sl no sweat

That's for IP addresses. AFAIK LL still also blocks by MAC. If you have two computers on the same LAN and one works while the other doesn't, then it'll almost certainly be blocked by MAC

Not really.

My home PC's network port (on the mainboard ... ugh) got shredded through some carelessness on my part. I bought a network card that plugs into a usb port online for about $10 I think, its the size of a thumb drive.

I remember reading the other thing that is sometimes used to identify you is the serial number on the hard drive which, of course, is replaceable. You probably shouldn't run SL on a 512 GB SSD drive if you're in the habit of getting banned, though

Given LL's rep for carelessness and the bad guys already knowing this ... I don't have a problem passing it on.

Most modern computers come with network cards that the MAC address can be changed for. Google is your friend.

Also the viewer is responsible for providing the mac and any other identifying info (except ip addy), and the viewer source is open... mac bans only affect the honest.

had this happen to me 3 days ago. are you on the SL client it was just i needed to update the client and then the issue was resolved

Alternately you could use Imprudence, I think, 1.3. By accident all versions older than the latest 1.4 beta had an error in the MAC hashing code that would allow MAC ban evasion.

Or if its a PC, you could just go buy a $10 pci gbit ethernet card.

Say what you want, most of the b& people I see are in SL, under different names. I can only think of two people I've seen hiding out on opensim after a ban; one was scared to come back, and the other was too indignant.

Everyone else simply makes an alt and carries on.

Are you sure you're not confusing flounces with bans?
