What do when no investment in SL?

I packed up my skybox two days ago and don't fly/sail because Blake Sea has been too funky in regards to sim borders. Mesh fashion pretty much bores me to death now because of the use of recurring templates and the difficulties in impulse buys (you have to check demos constantly). I pretty have nothing going on compelling in SL after about 5 or 6 years inworld. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing.

And yes, this is one of those boring personal threads.

Having no vested interest myself, I often wander through Caledon, search for new buildings to collect, or post at SLU. The latter isn't technically doing anything in Second Life; it's just more fun. Collecting buildings is an odd hobby but there are many types of items in SL you might have fun searching through. Just remember to be very picky or your inventory will balloon into a junk heap.

That boat sailed, hit an iceberg, and got rediscovered by robots a while ago.

Wull another thing I do sometimes is rez old stuff from inventory then stare at it a minute to decide whether or not to keep it. It hits all the sweet spots of memory and inspiration with the constructive result of clearing the deadwood.

Take a break. I have been ik SL for like 6+ years but about half of each year I don't use it at all, don't log in or anything. If you get bored, go find something else to do, eventually, if you get the itch to come back (I always do anyway), come back. You will find new places to explore and you may even redicover your old stuff.

Sometimes when I am bored I find a sandbox amd start rezzing junk I have collected over the years. Lota of "oh cool, I forgot I had that". Or often "I forgot I made that".

Not trying to come off as "go away and quit complaining" if I did, just saying, this has worked well for me.

I make my best stuff out of boredom.

That's when I do all my ideas that were thrown into the "nah, that'd be laggy/pointless/hard" pile.

I've been on break from SL for over 2 years. Phoning it in, as they say. Not the first break I've taken... it's always more fun after time away.

And I hate the UI changes less passionately after I've been away long enough to have to re-learn using SL.

I do hope they get the region border thing under control soon... my offline-project, now that I'm gradually drifting back towards SL, is intended to help people build vehicles.

I've been on hiatus for over a year now. I only log in for an hour or so every other week and that's to check notices and poke people in IM. Bu that's gotten not very interesting recently.

Yup, right there with you. The 18th of this month marked my 5-year anniversary of first signing up, and I was like... meh.

I guess I'll see if the materials thing, when it makes it in, perks up my interest (unless it turns out to be mesh redux with a bunch of luddite douchebags holding it back because they refuse to update from some crusty ancient viewer, but I digress.) But until then, meh. Nothing compelling for me either. Break time! Wouldn't be the first time.

I am taking a sort of break - I was planning on finishing up my hud projects and then working on making decorated tails and ears, new eyes, a few mesh building kits, and the like.... and I am mostly just not logging in at all.

If something, anything that is basically intended to be recreational for you is no longer interesting, don't do it. Go do something else that IS fun.

And please don't read that as being harsh, because it's not meant to be. It's just common sense. There is no compelling reason to be in SL if you don't enjoy it. Life is too short to waste time on optional activities that aren't providing value of some kind.

Every time I have gotten bored with SL, I have started a building project. Currently I am working on what started out as a dungeon but is rapidly becoming a full castle. Not sure where its going, but I am having fun doing it in pieces and stopping to think of what is next.

I think I've logged in 2 times in 4 months. Suddenly the interest just vanished. Still reading SLU and a few blogs. but not as much as before.

What I do... fixing up home in RL. Been painting, laying floors, throwing away old curtains and stuff like that. I have filled a trash dumpster. It is actually quicker than sorting inventory in SL.

I think the biggest mistake people do is they force themselves logging in, that just means they start complaining about SL so much more. Just find something else to do.
I've been in SL lull for over a year now. What keeps me logging in is my business, but it's getting harder and harder to find motivation to create something. And after 5 years in SL I guess it's just hard to let go. I do miss my avatar too sometimes.

I just got off about a 6 month hiatus that wasn't taken by choice but rather personal life issues. I have to say I'm having a lot of fun being back (though my time is a bit more limited now). I even had fun last night when the Bay City residents and managers attempted to MURDER ME IN COLD BLOOD.

I have unfortunately also learned that I probably can't safely take a hiatus. I left my best friend in charge of my sports league, and he did a great job, but it drove him insane and now HE'S on hiatus.

Hiatus rally helps you get your enthusiasm back, though.

I went on hiatus sometime in 2005-2006 (I think, its happily hazy now) after I think a fairly successful run in SL and some fun times since beta had. I believe I've logged in maybe twice since then? It seems to have come to a point where now it isn't a hiatus any longer, though I still obviously lurk here.

I'm ok with that.

Buy a TARDIS from Hands of Omega, explore the roleplay database, then 3 or 4 months later you will walk around with timelord robes drinking tea, eating cakes and looking down on the lesser races...

I've always been a big SL fan but not much of an SL user. If I'm not motivated to make stuff I have no real reason to log in at all, and for most of the past five years I haven't. I get motivated for a month or two every year or so and do a frenzy of content creation, and then I wander off to do something else somewhere else. One of the great things about SL to me is that it's easy to do that - to have it be a hobby and an interest rather than a commitment or obligation.

Play some other games on steam. Then start a thread on any random SL forum and end your conclusion with "something about SL and being a game".

Then just watch the world burn...

Pretty much the same here. I've spent maybe 3 hours total in SL the past 3 months or so. I gave up my estate land and am now homeless for the time being. It's summertyime, so I've been spending the time doing summertime stuff. Parties, barbecues, ballgames, fairs, festivals travelling, et. I haven't really had the time nor desire to sit in front of a computer screen for non work needs over that time. I've pretty much taken a vacation from the internet in general, usually just checking email once or twice a day. I find a break from the cesspool that can be the internet very rejeuvenating.

I can also sympathize on the loss of interest in shopping since the advent of mesh. With having to try demos for everything with the added prospect of changing your shape, which I am loathe to do, I pretty much have stopped shopping for clothes, or at least curtailed it greatly.

I've only had to make tiny tweaks to my shape for mesh - mostly pushing the girls together a little.

On my oldest, I did have to get rid of belly fat, so she's thinner than she should be [she's supposed to be like me...wish I could lose weight like that...], but she still has wide hips and such.
