FFS save me from commission based spam.

granted i woke up on the wrong side of the bed... but this is the umpteenth time i log on to a spam NC for SLoupon...

so heres the straw that broke the camels back..

[2012/08/20 22:39] Second Life: secondlife:///app/agent/ed12a182-fcf8-49d2-9667-88b4ac0ecd92/about has given you this notecard:
secondlife:///app/inventory/a0bf0679-b06f-d976-abad-4c17eaa39bd8/select?name=From%xxxxxxxxx%20Re%3A%20SLoupon

obviously theyre paying commission to ppl to spam these things out..
this avatar isnt a noob.. she should know better .. so in response to her WHAT is SLoupon NC i sent her this ..

[2012/08/20 22:42] eku Zhong: WHAT is Spam? Spam is the use of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited bulk messages, especially advertising, indiscriminately. While the most widely recognized form of spam is e-mail spam, the term is applied to similar abuses in other media: instant messaging spam, Usenet newsgroup spam, Web search engine spam, spam in blogs, wiki spam, online classified ads spam, mobile phone messaging spam, Internet forum spam, junk fax transmissions, social networking spam, social spam, television advertising and file sharing network spam. It is named for Spam, a luncheon meat, by way of a Monty Python sketch in which Spam is included in almost every dish.

Spamming remains economically viable because advertisers have no operating costs beyond the management of their mailing lists, and it is difficult to hold senders accountable for their mass mailings. Because the barrier to entry is so low, spammers are numerous, and the volume of unsolicited mail has become very high. In the year 2011, the estimated f
[2012/08/20 22:43] eku Zhong: etc etc
[2012/08/20 22:44] xxxxxx: hun, I sent you a notecard about a marketing opportunity for your business,
[2012/08/20 22:44] xxxxxx: how else would you suggest i do that?
[2012/08/20 22:45] eku Zhong: no you sent me a notecard about a marketing opportunity for YOUR business.. the definition is spam.. even by the SL TOS
[2012/08/20 22:46] xxxxxx: and if you look at my profile...I'm not a newb...I work full time in SL... managing land, events, doing pr and marketing and the most popular rock performer in SL...i'm not just some nobody trying to put something together.... so please tell me how you suggest people approach you with events and other things to participate in if you do not want a notecard?
[2012/08/20 22:46] eku Zhong: then you should know better than to send unsolicited spam
[2012/08/20 22:47] xxxxxxx: i've never met anyone as rude as you... I sent you an inquiry about an opportunity.... and there is nothing in your profile about not contacting you about events/ marketing opportunities
[2012/08/20 22:47] eku Zhong: its not an event anyway .. its an offer for you or whatever commission based wotsit youre flogging to get a percentage of my sales
[2012/08/20 22:47] eku Zhong: ditto.
[2012/08/20 22:48] eku Zhong: i shall post all of this on SLuniverse.. and then you can see all the common reactions to this.. hows that?
[2012/08/20 22:48] eku Zhong: youll find mine is a common reaction
[2012/08/20 22:48] eku Zhong: i will send you a link
[2012/08/20 22:48] xxxxxxx: I don't give you permission to copy my text
[2012/08/20 22:48] xxxxxxx: and if you do you will be breaking TOS
[2012/08/20 22:49] eku Zhong: it doesnt matter.. its not on the sl server
[2012/08/20 22:49] eku Zhong: read the TOS that you already broke sweetie.. especially the bit about spam
[2012/08/20 22:49] xxxxxxx: people have broken TOS for posting things on FB... my security person recently confirmed that
[2012/08/20 22:49] eku Zhong: so AR me
[2012/08/20 22:49] eku Zhong: and i will AR you for spam
[2012/08/20 22:49] eku Zhong: bye
[2012/08/20 22:50] eku Zhong: i will send you the link
[2012/08/20 22:50] xxxxxxx: if you put something in your profile about how to approach you with markeing opportunities or even not to, you would have not gotten my notecard

I have removed her name .. however i have invited her here to have a look at the general response of ppl..

it goes without saying SLoupon isnt something i will ever consider.

As I've had to ban three SLoupon-related accounts for posting five or six identical threads at a time all at once across several subforums in the last week alone, they may find it difficult to come and address these accusations.

Man. If she's "never met anyone as rude as you" -- and while spamming strangers! -- holy CRAP has she been living a charmed life.

one thing about 'business professionals' in SL is that really grates is that they dont realise how unprofessional it is to call a prospective client 'hun'

I've seen a rise in this in SL as well in some places i go to. It's becoming annoying...

The Dr Who Expo sim had one of those marketing spammers over yesterday, telling me that they can advertise my sim...told them we dont need advertising, she said we did, i then replied that the place is already advertised via the seasonal PodShock podcast to which she said "ohhhhh i bet they only get a few hundred listeners, i then told her its more like a couple of hundred THOUSAND...then she left.

A few days before that it was another spammer inside the Dr Who Expo mall, one of them was going through all the vendors in the mall, to see who owned them and then dropping a notecard on them. I got a few of the renters complaining who was online at the time. I popped in, and started to have fun with the spamming fucktard via the estate controls, after i had my fun i banned him.

Half of these "business marketers" or "business professionals" who send out crap clogging up inventories wouldn't know what real marketing is. REAL marketing is sustaining growth over a long period of time, which is exactly what i done with the dr who community side. The dr who community is steadily growing, while other scifi franchises within SL are either stagnating or shrinking. Thats real marketing.

I can't remember any of the names previously used. I thought one was just "SLoupon" but there isn't anything like that in the members list, banned or not.

They were wall of text threads and like three of them were posted in General SL Discussion (with nearly the same body and slightly different thread titles) within 30 seconds of each other. Huge "what we can do for your business!!!" advertisements with links and so forth.

Obviously affiliated with the "company," whatever the co-CEO says.

I would suspect "SLoupon" could be trademark infringement, though, since Mojo raises the point that it sounds like a registered business that I doubt has anything to do with this Second Life establishment.

Unprofessionalism aside, I particularly detest 'hun'. I mean, in most cases a complete stranger using terms of endearment in text comes off as condescending anyway, particularly if there's disagreement happening at the time, but the word it's a diminutive of is 'honey', not 'hunny'! We do not follow the Winnie the Pooh school of spelling!

Call me 'hon' and there's a good chance I'll be somewhat annoyed. Call me 'hun' and we're probably done.

Unless you're likening me to Attila. In which case perhaps I'll just get my bow and come sack your cities.

Well duh, it was you, Eku.

Honestly, if I'm feeling really snarky I'll react the same way you did to this person. If I'm feeling generous I just delete the damned notecard. Unless I'm subscribed to someone's group, I don't want their spam. I shouldn't have to put it in my profile. It should be common sense that "hey, I'm sending unsolicited business deals so it must be spam and people won't like me if I send this stuff to them."

In your mind, what distinguishes an invite to be a SLoupon merchant from an invite to participate in a hunt or fair? You may not be interested in participating, but a business-to-business invite to join an event, fair, or business association, isn't spam in my opinion.

Ah, here we go.

I don't want hunt invites either. I've participated in all of one in the entire time I've been in SL, which was only because a friend was doing it. Nevertheless, it seemed that my one hunt gave every other random person free license to send me invites to their hunts — often for things not remotely related to the product I was selling. "Come join ADULT ~~*~*~~*SeCrEtS*~~*~*~~ HUNT!!!" with a list of adult related "suggested products."

I sold anthropomorphic alien avatars.

Dear Madam/Sirs- I have received a Sales/Marketing Opportunity from you. I did not implicitly or explicitly OPT-IN to receive any such notices from you or your business. Your offer is therefore, by definition, "UNSOLICITED COMMERCIAL SPAM". This is a a clear violation of the ToS/CS, and not up for debate. Please confirm within 24 hours that I have been permanently removed from your contact list. If I do not receive confirmation and/or if I receive additional offers from you or your business, each will be Abuse Reported promptly. This isn't personal, I just have no tolerance for SPAM and SPAMMERS. I hope you will wisely seek out more legitimate ways to market your business opportunities in the future.

That is a lie.

She did meet someone as rude as you, in fact, I was far ruder when I dealt with the same Shite from her a while back.

really .. and how about receiving 5 of these NC in a space of a week.. all from different avatars?

invites to hunts and fairs when arriving as a NC with no accompanying IM are also spam IMO...

if someone thinks i am good enough to be invited to their event.. they can at least IM me and ask.

you see spam is often
1. grab merchat type group/s member list
2. send out NC to all
3. ?

This is also a comment from the person who insists she needs access to the true online status exploit so she won't commit the grave error of sending unsolicited commercial offers to people when they're online (and thus might reply to it right then or something) so honestly I don't think your barometer for what is and isn't spam is calibrated with everyone else.

I belong to a group specifically for vetted hunts as a hunt organizer (AHVG). I've never (really, never) sent out unsolicited hunt invites to strangers. Ever. I'll ask my friends if they wanna throw in(Thank you Joshua- <3) , and I'll put the word out through the appropriate channels- but ive never, *ever* sent total strangers notecards asking them to be in one of the hunts I organize.

And I didn't spam people for Goth Fair, either. We posted here, to our own website, our own groups, and events notices. Not a *single* notecard went out unsolicited.

Really. It's not that difficult.
