eh, I've been using it more or less since V2 came out (except for a brief spell roundabout 2.3/2.4 which were shite). I tried going back to the old style once a few months ago and I hated it.

Cool VL recently put the v3 renderer but kept the old interface. It's missing only shared media.

Cool VL is my viewer of choice, it's always been the fastest for me. Now, I wish Henri would properly support the LL outfits system like every other TPV... *grumble*. But I suppose he's going to have to sooner or later, with the new bakey stuff that's coming down the pipe.

(Last I checked, some of that stuff is already in the Cool VL source code, but it's all #if 0'ed out with some choice Henri comments calling it all "useless"... well, not gonna be so useless soon enough...)

I could never stand the V1 interface, particularly the voice chat version. V2 gifted me by getting rid of that atrocious "pie" crap and V3 gave me customizable buttons that I could put where ever I want. =^-^=

That said, I prefer V3 over all with near tie between V2 and Pre-voice V1 at a close 2nd place. (^_^)

Simply saying the interface is "dumb" tells me more about the commenter than the UI. (^_^)y

Ugh, yeah, that too.

You know, honestly, I could just chuck all TPVs and I would be perfectly happy on plain-jane LL V3. (It's actually my preferred UI, but I'll stick with Cool VL as long as I experience the nifty speed boost it currently gives me.) I used to be of the mindset where I wanted all kinds of neeto features and options, but nowadays I just see that stuff as feature creep and bloat.

However, Singularity does support it, though I've had some issues having to TP out and then back in to any regions I've set up to use it. (also, as far as I know, there's no way to set the windlight for the region using Singularity).

But, it's a currently maintained v1 viewer with multiple attatchments and region windlight, so...

*there's also phoenix, which has all of the above, but the devs seem to want to bury that one...

It's been a year since I made myself switch completely to v2/3 style UI. Mostly because mesh had finally made it to the main grid, but also because certain other advantages (such as 64m prims) had been added.

I have gotten used to the UI and for the most part but some issues still pop up.

I had to duplicate a crapload of vendors last night due to shop renovation. The double time the v2/3 interface was giving me was driving me nuts; one of my chief remaining complaints about the new interface is the extremely poorly designed notifications chicklet, which endeavors to make all notices less relevant, put them out of order, causes a significant amount of missed notices, inventory offers, group invites, system messages, and the like. It also fails to stack multiple system messages (such as debit permissions), causing the doubling of clicks in cases where system messages overflow from the toasts in to notifications. (As an aside, I made a JIRA relevant to this discussion concerning improvements to the UI some months ago - take a look and see if you agree! I would love to get this issue more attention!: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-28591 )

I did eventually switch down to 1.23; it reminded me of how much i missed and how much I don't miss.

Case in point:

No alpha layers, no mesh (which covers approximately 75% of what is in my sim now). Extremely slow loading of textures. No display names. Constant reset of graphical preferences due to the viewer not recognizing my mid-level, two year old video cards.

Pretty much the ONLY reasons why i keep 1.23 around any more is to work through large batches of system messages or object dialogues & to use old Search in the case I need to get a hold of some customer who's hidden themselves from the web-based search but demanding service.

V3 isn't by any means perfect. In fact I'd say the most recent Beta build has been the worst I've seen in a long long time, with regressions all over the place.
- Worn sculpts now appear to LOD but very poorly and outside the scope of what they'd look like normally.
- You can no longer drag & drop items from inventory to edited object tabs (such as textures, scripts, notecards, other objects) without specifically selecting the tab.
- Anything that requires loading a user list (Group chat, friends list, managing groups) takes forever, partially because all of the user profile pics get loaded every time.
- The log-in location pulldown menu preference is no longer persistent across uses of the viewer.
- Searching inventory is seriously bugged. Search never stops looking for your keyword and it constantly updates the list regardless of whether it finds anything, so you can't scroll down at all.

With that said, within the past year the benefits have outweighed the issues for me and I would never be able to go back on a permanent basis to a viewer based around the 1.23 design.

The 2.x notification/alert system is absolutely appalling. I'm forever missing alerts and dialogs.

I like the interface options that firestorm has. I tried the 1.x interfaces and I can't stand them. Bit since I came in with the 2/3 versions I'm just more used to them.

I don't like the v2/3 interface either. Luckily there are many alternatives! I use Firestorm with the Phoenix skin and that fixes 90% of the annoyances. The only big thing missing for me is old Search. I really, really hope that will be added at some point. It's much faster and better at finding specific things and people. And I HATE the web based events listings.

CoolVL for me for as long as it keeps going. V1 pre voice UI, Old Search and Profiles, it's quick very stable. Anything that it may be missing are things I evidently am doing fine without so no need to use anything else.
