Barton. The deepwater surrounded by hills is wonderful. Unfortunately there's an ugly build on the shoreline now, otherwise I'd go back. I once had a mermaid themed hangout on the reservoir floor, eighty meters underwater. I wish I had kept it.

Oh god Zoe, I bought 1/2 the land there twice, once to donate to the park, then again to donate to the Coda's for our large scale building contests. Silly Khamon used to buy and give away loads of land when it only cost and sold for a few lindens a meter.
I loved that time! I bought 10k sqm of land in Mauve for $10/m right next to the sandbox and infohub. I told it for a little over 40/m.

I did well with selling it, but I wish I kept it.

Rua. My first house was there. I loved the old mainland terraforming.

Also, it brings back memories of when there was no such thing as camping, 16m ad plots, nobody had ban lines up, my neighbors were just nice friendly people, who built houses, usually nice ones, and came over to check out what you were building and chat.

Last time I was there someone did own most of it, and it was the Rua Caves. Not bad, but I miss the old days .

I'm obviously biased, but I love the colored regions - Slate, Olive, Indigo, Crimson - and the railway.

Abbott's. Perfect location for a business HOWEVER when the sandboxes fall to griefing so does that sim. Still it's great spot.

Da Boom, but mostly because it was the first sim (I think). It's a mess right now because of absentee landowners and poor terraforming, but it's a great location with a lot of potential.

Yes, Da boom was the first sim connected. Because of that, back in 04/05 on set downtime days a few of us would gather in Da Boom at Marilyn Murphy's or the Telehub and watch the rest of grid go down. They always took Da Boom down last for some reason.

Maybe Flippypoo knows why.

Da Boom was actually a typo. The original sims were named after alleys in San Francisco, and the actual alley name is "DeBoom" - according to Phoenix, he had been up for many hours, and swears to this day that Google Maps actually spelled it "Da Boom" when he saw it.

Back then, simulators were locked to a single server.

Da Boom was sim1.agni.lindenlab.com
Indigo was sim63.agni.lindenlab.com

It was only later that sims began to come up on a random server, when SL got much bigger. Back then, when the grid would come down, they'd take the sims down in reverse order, so Da Boom would come down last, and when they brought the grid back up, Da Boom would come up first. It was a tradition Andrew and Ian Linden started, so that each time the grid came up, it would come up in the same order it originally did... AFAIK, there wasn't a technical reason.

Regards,

-Flip

Yellowmoon ... There are better sims , but I currently own 58K so its special to me ... one day it will be all mine .. but the rest of the neighbours are nice and no Ad Plots or bad builds at all - There are other nice Mainland sims as well , Hyppa is fine - just 3 or 4 residents and I'm sure there are plenty others

I scouted out Liome and chose it out of about 50 during the great sim dump of '07. It had one whole side bordering protected linden water but I loved it for the steep mountain on one side, water in the middle and a large beach with a small hill and tidepools on the other side of the sim. Very unique and an ideal sim for various theme ideas that include beach and water.

I enjoyed every minute that I owned it, except for that one day once a month when LL debited my account $195 for tier.

Thanks, Flipper. That is very cool to know. And thanks, Briana, for prodding it out of him.

that would be a bargain there now. Pricing has gotten insane in that sim. I check every now and then because I'd like a lot just for the novelty of it but I don't want to pay what they have been being listed at lately.

Hard to beat Carlisle, the old mainland sim that's a rarity: A mainland Island. It's rocky like the beaches of Britain. No ugly builds on the sim. I co-own about a third of it and it's open to all. Botany's Campground takes up another big chunk there, owned and protected by Random Unsung, an alt of one of SL's biggest and most vocal Mainland champions.

Mahulu rocks too. The verdant green terra and the Linden volcano make it something really special.

Filignano, I own 1/8th of it, the SW corner. it has 3 ocean sims, and people have kept it pretty much a seaside sim. I love the water and really wish I had bought more of it when it was for sale cheap.

This is true. I came this close to bidding on that precious isle after the group turned down Ravenglass. It wasn't feasible though because the biz wasn't quite up to paying a full sim's worth of tier a month.

It's sometimes been a bitch not putting any personal money into Second Life; but it's just never been worth any more funding than I could generate internally.

Maui is still very cool i think. It sits on the top of the old continent bordered by water on 3 sides. And I love the volcanic ground textures. An island on it's own!
