This is part of why I stopped logging in. If I get to know someone and actually give a damn about them the line between avatar and typist starts to blur in my head. It gets hard not to bring up RL stuff since now I'm talking to the typist and not the avatar. And I know many people just don't want to cross that bridge. So I dealt with it by removing myself from the equation.

It's worth repeating, for the sixth thousandth time, that not everyone has this aversion to the two, and much as I respect your desire not to mingle them I request that you not treat me like a lunatic for feeling differently. I don't use SL to roleplay, and I don't want to be pushed into responding to your roleplay without my consent. This was, after all, the default in SL for quite some time before the immersionists took over.

Obviously there's a difference between this and receiving unsolicited nude photos after you've told somebody no, but I've had people take it upon themselves to contact me and ask me to remove the RL photo of myself from my profile because "SL is SL, we don't talk about RL things here just FYI."

This is not uncommon in SL, or maybe it's just more obvious here than in RL where we have other less blatantly stupid cues to focus on.

Just last night a friend of mine was complaining about the high school expectations of women at the Duchess, where dancing with someone is apprently, in their mind, the equivalent of an offer of marriage. They either shy away as if dancing will hold them in bondage to you or they are wounded to the core that after a few dances, you go dance with someone else.

Glad it's not just me. In my case I was told I "ruined the magic" by filling my profile out normally, and they would from then on always see my "character" as a "human." I just told them "You're the one who looked."

And then I did what any normal person would do and made a copy of my furry avatar with just a normal Boy Next Door head and wore it exclusively around them for the next few weeks.

Those people are lunatics. If they don't want to see your RL, then they shouldn't look at your profile.

As for the OP, if she politely tells a contact that she doesn't want to do RL info and they do not respect that, they are also dicks. I don't think she was trying to say that all people who do want RL are bad, I may be mistaken, but that wasn't what I got.

People just need to respect boundaries when given, IMO.

Any roleplayer who has issues because you share typist info, or have rl info in your profile isn't much of a roleplayer. At least to my mind. FFS, if they don't know you're a human in rl without a picture, then they aren't real bright, and as said, they didn't have to look.

Me, I don't want to share all my RL data. If I decide to share it, then I do, but don't tell me I have to. But if people want to share it, that's their right.

I guess I'm not an immersionist - most of my really good RP is stuff that I do with people I already know at least a little, and its not open RP, and most days I'll drop out of character to discuss things like music, building stuff, and the like....

It wasn't even one time, either, which was why I found it so annoying. Nothing like being lectured by month-old accounts about what "we" do in SL when you've been in it since nearly day one.

It was on the tab explicitly titled "Real Life," I never put pictures of myself in the SL one.

I'm one who stresses RL/SL separation for myself (not others) as well. If I want to talk about my RL, I will do it on my own terms, at my own time. If someone wants to share their RL info with me, that's their decision, but don't expect me to share mine just because they share theirs. I have had that before too. "Oh, I told you such-and-such. Why can't you tell me?"

As for the RL nude pictures. I've gotten them, from both genders. I don't understand the desire some have to share that. My only guess is, it probably is fake and they think they're being impressive.

Beebs - that is all over SL. I have a few male friends who don't go to dances, and don't dance with people they don't know - after a few times being stalked or chased all about the grid or yelled at in IM if, god forbid, they danced with someone else. Everyone dances with me tho - cause I'M HAWT.
