I think people don't actually look at RL doors often enough. I clear my bedroom door by less than a foot. Yet it'd take an ox to open some of the doors you find in SL.

I recently got a stack of prefabs for a shopping village in my sim. I literally scaled down each building by half in order for things to be to scale. The best part about it is that I was able to rez twice as many buildings as I had originally expected. XD

You know, it can be fun to mock people, but honestly, the judging of people based on appearance wears a little thin.

You also have to take into account that many folks, including the eight foot tall TRex arm guys, may not speak/type English well because it's not their primary language.

I'm unsure why you took the teleport/group invite/friendship offer if you had no intention of following through. I get you were bored, but there are better ways to pass the time than to find people you plan to mock in threads like this.

Does he deserve to be mocked? Possibly. But I feel uncomfortable with it, considering he really didn't do anything wrong, apart from be too tall and call you "doll". Neither is a capital offense.

I'm afraid I have to give this thread a .5 out of 5 stars for Drama. Sorry.

You know nothing has been shared about the type of rp this sim theme was. If it had a humans only avatars theme then juussssssssssstttt maybe he was asking about the non human body parts with a purpose. And yanno personally? I'd rather be called doll any day than snotty nosed bitch!

He posted something, I was simply curious, I'm a very curious person, so I asked. Is that so wrong? He tossed out the rest right after. People spam group invites and friend requests all of the time. I think you might be looking too much into this. Or I write too much.

My profile is actually like that because I'm tired of getting IMed about various things. Seriously, I've gotten TPs from people from the Blender group wanting help and instead, they start hitting on me.

Unfortunately, it seems the ones that do read don't ask. Figures.

I had to read your profile after reading all of that. You do have a lot of info in your profile to read, and if I were in world, I wouldn't be bothered to read it all. While we all have our ideas of what we find rude, I consider most of your profile to be rude. But, it's your standards. So, do you. Maybe I missed something, but you im'd him after he posted something in group chat about RP. Then expected he should read your profile first before answering? Even though you weren't really interested in his RP, but tp'd to him anyway just for shitz n gigglz?
Maybe I read into internet tones differently, but the whole "doll" bit added to the annoyance. A lot of my profile is a deterrent, made what it is after years of pestering, I don't think most get that. It also doesn't doesn't seem to work . Like I said, I was just curious, so I IMed, I don't see the harm in inquiring, it can be a good way to meet people at the very least. I also thought checking profiles was pretty standard in the RP world. Perhaps somebody who does it on a regular basis can enlighten me.

I obviously posted when much more annoyed, perhaps I didn't think it through as well as I could have. The name really isn't too important I suppose since honestly, he is just one of many such people I've met like this over the years. While I haven't encountered one for a long time, it is still just as frustrating when I do.

Fun with height detectors: Use Z-mod on the smallest possible shape to make them say I'm 8 foot tall. (After about +5 meters zmod breaks and returns to zero, but height detectors still read it in.)

Also useful for bypassing height ejectors, although I haven't seen them for a long while.

Can also just use it to make detectors say your true height, to confuse height snobs.

Hmm ... I feel compelled to offer advice. People don't usually like advice, and then react badly and the person giving the advice reacts badly and probably it's best to not give advice, but oh Hell, although I may regret it, I can't fight this urge!

;-)

By the time I read this thread you had already edited your first post and although I noticed that there might be two sides to the story, your version did seem fairly reasonable to me, and I was inclined to take your side, so at first I was a bit perplexed as to why some people were reacting so negatively to your post. Then I realized that I had read an edited version. If only you had posted the edited version first, maybe ... ;-)

People often have "buttons": things that bother us, that we tend to react to in a semi automatic, quick, unthinking sort of way. Then the other person in the conversation gets defensive and also reacts to the first reaction in a semi automatic, unthinking way often aggressive or passive-aggressive way, that they could have voided but didn't. The first person then reacts to the 2nd persons reaction to the first reaction which elicits a reaction which creates a stupid endless loop that goes on and on that I think we've all been part of this one time or another in our lives. If we could only manage to edit ourselves before speaking or typing this stupid loop could be avoided, and there would be peace on earth and the age of Aquarius could begin but ... oh well!

This guy who hit on you does seem to be a bit of a pompous lout (unless it was just RP ) --- but he didn't become a total jerk until the endless loop started. Clearly he thought he did have a proportionate height and in a practical sense his height in fact probably is "proportionate" to the out of scale doors and ceilings he is used to, in the builds he most often visits. In a practical sense a correct size avatar actually is out of proportion in a build with doors that are over 3 meters (10 or even more feet) high. As Robert I'm normally 6'5" (I think) but I do have a 5'8 version for Berlin, and a seldom used 7 foot version for particularly badly proportioned large scale builds, just so I fit doors a bit more realistically.

From the beginning the gentleman who IMd you was fairly friendly and not a major idiot ;-) but yes he did act like a pushy, self important, entitled male < laughs at myself and fellow males> and that pushed your "buttons", Maybe it would have been better to have said "no thank you, this just isn't going to work" much earlier in the conversation thereby avoiding the explosion ? Maybe he would have ended up being less of a jerk? Maybe?

;-)

Advice givers like me usually end up looking arrogant pompous or what not. Hopefully I avoided that but if I didn't, please re-read my first paragraph and go ahead and have a laugh on me ;-)

;-)

Yes. In Gor you must be no shorter than 8 feet, own ten pair of leather pants with little shiny areas, and sport this hair, only in BLACK never in other color:

Really? I still see them everywhere when I'm away from my home sim. Shops, clubs, helper places, random TPs... you name it, maybe I don't get out enough to know any better places. What I have noticed though is that avatars in the realistic height range seem to always be female.

While the bulk of the post remains largely intact, the edited version took out extra details explaining how I met him, briefly poking fun at things like his Gor defense and why I found him as a person to be distasteful. You pretty much hit the nail on the head with that last one in your post. I went too in-depth explaining the setup and how I personally felt, but I honestly would not expect anyone from a similar background to form any better of an opinion in the same situation. The mistake here on my part was posting it on SLU, lesson learned .

People interpreted it their own way, tossed in their moral two cents and even missed the point completely, but that could all be expected. Due to this and having since cooled off, I thought I should tone it down some to focus on the topic. What actually happened is shown in the chat log, sans seeing if he muted me at the end.

While the guy is a complete jerk, the real annoyance here is more lack of height awareness in general and less about a single person. After all, he's just another name on the list. This isn't the first time somebody has acted this way, only the most recent. Others have been far more aggressive right from the start. People are still surprisingly unaware of such basic things like height and it causes many unnecessary issues, from this nonsense to others. How anyone could react in such a manner is crazy. Such information should be obvious for everyone.

That's part of the fun of posting online, people can always interpret what you say in a completely different tone than intended. I saw nothing at all wrong with your post. Despite what complete strangers I've never so much as even heard of who are clueless about the context may assume to know about me, I'm not a very aggressive, or even a very serious person most of the time. I also generally don't care about how others look or what they do. So long as they're nice enough and don't have other motives, all is good .

I'm one of those people who doesn't care how "realistic" my height is or how realistic anyone else's height is.

I don't see why it matters so much. If the guy wants to be 8 feet tall so he's proportionate to the builds around him then why shouldn't he? He thought he was 6'3" but it seems like he was making himself proportionate to the builds around him. I guess because he wanted to be more "realistic" in his setting.

But even if he just liked being really tall, what's wrong with that? If he was running around looking like a Minotaur or an inanimate object would it have bothered you that his avatar wasn't realistic?

I have to ask: Why are you so incensed by what you perceive to be incorrect height?

This is Second Life. It is a fantasy. Some folks enjoy having avatars that look exactly like them in real life, some folks don't. Hell, none of the avatars I have remotely resemble me in real life, and they're all different sizes.

While I prefer to make a valiant attempt at keeping my avatar proportional (no T Rex arms here), I can certainly understand that folks less inclined to care about appearance will just slap together something that they can look at.

Do I mock people about their appearance? Heck yeah I do. It can be fun. But I don't seek out the drama.

The way you come across here and in your profile, I suspect you'd probably hate me anyway. My avatar is either Six foot Six or Seven foot One, depending on what height parameters you're using to measure.

Neither is my real height. In real life I'm an inch or two shy of six feet. Should I conform to your preconceived notions of what people should look like in Second Life and shrink my avatar down?

I'm really curious about this.

People can be whatever they want, it's more of an issue of calling others "fuckin stupid mouse cunt" or being ARed and harassed for simply showing some place without having done anything. When that's happened to you multiple times, you would be at least a bit defensive as well.

It has certainly gotten much better than it use to be, but it doesn't feel any nicer when it happens.

Editing to add:

Nope, don't care. A lot of my profile is there as sort of a deterrent from and rant about the types of people (with one thing in mind) that have IMed me quite a bit over the years, sadly, I don't think those sorts even read it.

Eh, it's life in Second Life. I got banned from a shop without ever having spoken to the owner simply because I happened to be on the land at the same time as a guy the owner was having a dispute with. Fair? No. But it will suck for the guy when I cannot check his store for the Twisted Hunt the next time it comes around.

Rule Number One: don't ban hunt organizers from your store if you want to be in the hunt

In any case, I'm not sure where you hang out in Second Life, but it's been a long time (like four years) since I've been harassed by people because of my appearance or whatever. Maybe you just need a change of venue?
