I have love hate for marketplace. I love it when I do find awesome stuff there. But finding that awesomeness is pain in the butt and I often do rage quit it. XD I wish there was way to ignore or mute some shops there so their stuff would never come up in the search. I don't do fairs and events much. Only when I see some things on the blogs that I must get. I don't have the time and patience to wait for things to rez.

You can use the "NOT" operator in the search, which helps when I'm looking for something and I get all the items by someone with the search term in their name... which happens, oh, ALL THE TIME.

Same here - I'm one of the worst marketers ever. I did have my blog on a feed, so my new releases would get out - but i don't do just fashion, so most feeds don't work. And I'm sure people don't really consider eyes, wings, ears and tails fashion really either, because its kind of sideways [and thats what I find myself doing that's closest to fashion].

I've never directly given stuff to a blogger - I'd hate to think I was making anyone feel obligated, or feel like an imposition.

There is a feed called what's new SL, useful if you have a shop blog anyways. And of course feedme accepts all sl related. =D

I think most people do consider bodyparts fashion, since we change them just like clothing. Same with poses, people just want to know where they can buy what made the whole look.

WELL. In that case...

Actually, I buy it all anyway, so it's a moot point.

My expectations from bloggers…

Do not send me notecards. I actually deal with bloggers on a personal level, I do not have a group, I do not send all bloggers the same colors (tacky and lazy imo). So please do not send me your form letter notecard(I get 20 on a bad day), treat me with a little respect. I get to know bloggers and provide their favorite color(s). I only provide review copies to people that have previously blogged my items, preferably not a freebie. I like to see people that are actual fans and customers blog my items.
I do not do the bloggers group or registered bloggers. I send items to whoever is online when I finish a product and then whoever is online the next time I am on after a release and that is it. I work on a tight cycle in SL so if you ask for a product released on Friday, on Tuesday or Wednesday you are out of luck. Promotional copies are for promotion, and they need to be blogged in a timely manner, for my store. I don’t need URLS, I can check the feeds myself.

There are some bloggers that are bring paid to take pictures of brands, then blogging the brands like they are brand new brands they have found. They are not disclosing anything. I think they owe a little honesty to their readers

Since mesh when people blog my items, the items usually look as intended, I do not have to worry too much about the odd pose or people who cannot match/edit prims. I still think the more natural a photo looks the more customers are willing to accept it as factual, which is I why I do not snob bloggers, as long as they can take pictures with AA, and they meet my above requirements I give out review copies. I don’t mind working with people who are still improving.

Bloggers are human, we have brands we love and those we dont so much..its that simple. If I love something, sure I will blog it...if I dont but its a great item..I might show it to the best of my ability and usually state "this isnt my type of thing but to those who it is..its a good item"

It must be awful to be SO bothered & harrased by people who have shown your items by them letting you know theyve blogged it with a note..your blog review pick says nothing about NOT sending notecards btw...if it offends you so badly, why not add it?

Easy there...try reading the paragraph again. She isn't saying its a huge imposition for someone to drop a note saying she's been blogged, just that she doesn't *need* it because she can see the feeds for herself.

She DID say that form-letter notecard spam is annoying, I think you might be blending the two statements. She is right, the notecard spam has gotten really out of hand. "20 on a bad day" is not hyperbole, consider this: I still get pinged with three or four "HAY can I have stuff to blog?" cards per day and my shop has been closed in world since January. "Can I have review copies" is the new "Come rent mall space!".
If I had any advice on bloggers cold calling a designer for review copies, it would be this: Never canvas. Tailor your notecard to the store. Be discerning about what you are asking for and who you are requesting it from. Designers don't want to be treated like a number any more than a blogger does.

Thanks for checking my profile. I had "no notecards" on the front of my profile for years. People ignore it. So I used the space to talk about custom prices (which seems to be working), a couple weeks ago. People don't read warnings so it is really kind of a waste to post them, the same way people don't read instructions. I still get people people offering mall locations and I have posted no mall locations for years also. People don't care in SL when they are trying to push something.

My comment about not needing URLs is more that I trust people to blog or not to blog, I don't need them to check in with me about it. I am not a micro-manager, plus I read the feeds on my tablet. I don't see the need for bloggers to do extra work.

Thanks for getting huffy about how I choose to run my business and manage my offlines [insert passive aggressive emoticon]

I actually like how Eboni does it. She doesn't require additional work from a blogger (ie: proving they blogged) and does the work herself to find out who is doing what with her stuff.

It takes the pressure off of everyone. I'm guessing she also wouldn't send IM's "HOW COME YOU AIN'T BLOGGING MY STUFFS THAT I SEND YOU!" she just quietly makes a note that the person isn't blogging the items she sends and stops sending them. It also appears she looks at the feeds to find bloggers that have either already established they like her product and enjoy showcasing it or bloggers who showcase similar items if she's looking for someone new to send her stuff to.

I don't see how that's a bad thing at all. She's pro-active instead about her products and how they are being marketed.

I'll probably forget to answer half of it but here goes-

No, I do not think bloggers should be held to any certain standards depending on whether they are a merchant, whether they give critiques, or anything. Their readership will determine what is acceptable and what is not, why should I care?

I would like to know if someone is a blogger and are shopping for the purpose of blogging. I will give them a review copy! If I find a blog on my things and they bought it, I would like to refund or give a gift as a thanks. They are doing their job so why shouldn't I help them? Along that vein, I would like to be notified when I am blogged- even if it was a negative review! As long as they weren't just a flaming ass about it I would still thank them for the input and gift them something.

If someone is "registered" as a blogger for a store or event, and not just a regular person attending or shopping, do you want them to disclose that? For those stores or events that do accept registered bloggers, what are your expectations of them?
If they solicited gifts from me specifically, yes. Do not ask me for free shit and then just plop it in your house with no review

If someone is a registered blogger- Yes, I would want to know. I would like to decide who to send review items to. If they are not soliciting items from me specifically, I HOPE for a review but do not expect it. I have no idea how many items they received from other merchants, whether they like my items or what. I would choose specific bloggers to try and target who might be interested in my products, but that does not obligate them and I could be totally wrong about their preferences.

You havent got me remotely huffy or otherwise..suggesting you might want to add in your pick for bloggers review etc that you dont like notecards if it seems to bother you...is just that, a suggestion. It seems youve got a but huffy to be honest at one simple solution offered to a *probem* of people notifying you that they have written about or shown your items.

I will add it, then I will post how many notecards I receive between now and Monday. It does not stop people from sending notecards, but lets experiment.

Not to this extent, not at all!

I happen to hate the hell out of linden daylight. I think it is gawdawful. A very sweet freebie blogger did some pics of my hunt items awhile back in default light and even though I hated the ugly glary yellowy light, the stuff actually looked nice

I know that many people prefer to see things in default light, to me it just all looks like flourescent lighting or something :/

I tend to use the Nam's optimal when taking pictures of my stuff - not to deceive anyone, but because I think it does the best for getting an accurate image and without lighting issues to make things look odd.

the very best "blog" for fashion is the show your style thread here on SLU. I need no other. The so-called fashion blogs are infested with what appears to be fully loaded diaper pants anyway.

I Personally am more of an event blogger these days. I sign up for events and blog them, charities or not.I don´t mark review items neither for events or out of them
, I´ve done adds for one shop, but for free, so i see no reason to say anything about it on my blog, I´ve also allowed my pics to be used on adds or shop sites, free of charge. I´ve never been payed anything to do anything, I have recieved review items from a few creators, but i know them well.
I don´t do SLruls tbh shops in sl move all the time, i rather link to a blog online actually.
At the end of the day i blog things i like, but i also like to experiment.

That's what I use also. It evens out colors so they aren't all funky and yellow, without whitewashing or otherwise blurring potential flaws.

That, really.

The typically "review copy solicitation notecard" I get goes this way:

Quote:
Hi Janerandom!

I have a great blog that is syndicated on the following feeds:

Feed 1, feed 2, feed 3, feed 4, feed 5

Also I am affiliated with Modelling Agency That Everyone Is Supposed To Know, CEO Of Other Modelling Agency, and was voted Miss Mainstream Metaverse in 2010.

Please send me all your stuffs!
Which does absolutely nothing to "sell" a blog to me. Especially not the part where they get my name wrong. There seems to be an inverse correlation between the amount of bragging in the notecard and the quality of the blog in question. Then I visit the blog in question and it's just the antithesis of my style, and I get to wonder why they even bothered to ask me for stuff.
