I am my business.
You don't need premium to own land.
You can get land on a private estate.

The reason it isn't good for me is that I can't afford the chunk of money for a yearly payment. I have to pay monthly, or not at all. It just isn't worth it in my case. I do think it may be more worth it for someone who can pay it yearly because they would save money by doing it that way.

Btw if you forget to pay your premium account fees, or there is some sort of mess up ..you get blocked and can loose your account..a little more worrying than being ejected from a rental home for not paying a rent box no?
I am far more likely to forget a weekly payment than a once a year thing. Also I plan on handling it like uncle does the cash for the premium goes on the account balance weeks before it is due.

Honestly I am not worried about a messup loosing the account for me.
So no it isn't more worrisome for me.

To each their own I guess.

Just keep in mind that if you do pay for a full year in advance, and decide to downgrade or leave SL in the interim, you will not get a refund for your unused time.

I was premium for my first year in SL. I paid monthly as I am not a big fan of subscriptions of any sort. I held some mainland for a month or two, didn't care for it so I went to an estate. The 300L is chump change, and as I have no interest in any of the other premium perks, I don't see me reupping anytime soon. You just have to look at the benefits and if they appeal to you, go for it.

Thanks guys for the great info. I haven't decided weather to go premie but if I do I do it in July-August when I have plenty of money I see the cons and the pros and right now for me the pros are winning. I am in world so much now that a premie does make sense. I just let my wow account go bye bye

If you do the yearly plan amd use SL a lot it may be worth it. I went premium (with an alt account so I wouldn't lose my old 50 stipend) recently. Been using SL off and on for 6 years.

I canceled after a month. The Linden Homes are alright but I have gotten a better value from cheap rentals. The sandboxes are not much different than public sandboxes (I jump to a skybox anyway). The special regions are pretty but empty and kind of boring.

Personally, you probably would be better off just buying $10 worth of L$ per month and renting.

I really regret not joining SL sooner.

Insert math failure here.

Looks like I could have totally made the cut if I just found it sooner.

Wait, what is the cut off for the 500L stipend? Because 500 x 52 + 1000 L bonus divided by ~250 L/$ means that with an annual plan SL is giving people money.

I may have to reconsider my stance on this issue...

The only reference I found said:

Premium Accounts registered prior to 21 July, 2006 receive L$500.
Premium Accounts registered between 21 July, 2006 and 6 November, 2006 (inclusive) receive L$400.
Premium Accounts registered on or after 7 November, 2006 receive L$300.

I originally thought "registered" meant became premium, but as I'm reading here it appears they are talking about your SL rez date.

However, I do keep my main on premium. Not so much for the stipend, but because renting has always worked out to be a huge pain. I'd faithfully pay my rent and keep the covenant and then the outfit I was renting from would get sold, sometimes in the process kicking me out or making it harder to pay them.

So renting has just been a series of headaches. I'd just as soon set up my own place on a smallish lot and know I can log out of SL and forget about it, and it will all still be there next week.

Premium and owning your own land is therefore an advantage if you're not in SL very often, but still want your own place.

You do have to carefully pick out your neighborhood - stability of the neighbors is not guaranteed. But overall, I've had less hassle from neighbor uglification than I have had from landlord transience.

What would happen if you go premium for some time but later decide to cancel premium? Will the avatar account be deleted or can you go on without premium then like before?

o_O

Of course you can cancel your subscription and go back to being a free account. If you didn't sell your land before canceling it will be turned over to Governor Linden.

Assuming you are a 2007 account or later, there's no long-term effects in canceling a subscription. If your account was made in 2006 or earlier though, canceling means you are no longer considered a grandfathered account and if you change your mind again and start premium you'll only get the 300L weekly stipend.

Actually, you need to release your land or pay for it normally - otherwise you get locked out - happened to a friend who assumed that her linden home would revert and it didn't.

Thanks Adeon. I just asked as I was reading in a german forum that this might cancel your account if you end supscription. It´s some time ago and I could´t believe that. This thread was a good point to ask that question for clarifying. I just had this question always in mind

Thanks Aribeth.. how do you mean "locked out" ? Locked out from your land or locked out from the account? Sorry for that stupid question.. I had to translate "locked out" and that sounds then ambiguous in german.. Related to your first sentence I assume you mean the land.

She's saying you need to sell or abandon your land (which means giving it to LL for free) before you cancel your subscription.

Sorry - locked from your account. To fix it, if I'm remembering correctly, you need to reactivate the premium, pay off whatever they decide you owe on tier, and then cancel. Then you're fixed.

Pretty much. And agreed - its stupid. And to be fair, its possible its been fixed by now - my friend had this problem about 2 years ago now....so it might not do that any more, but I'd never risk it.

That was exactly what I did read in a german forum, some time ago. Thats why I was irritated and had to ask that question. Some people over there had exactly the same problem.

Hope too that they fixed that by now.
