Wink any Trekkies or sci-fi fans? check this out ...

Have you guys seen the new teaser for the Star Trek XI movie? movie teaser

I actually saw it about two weeks ago and it just totally wow'ed me. Another thing was running in the back of my mind while watching that ... "man i could totally recreate that in SL ..."

And so, with a friend, I did

I'd like to introduce the "second trek" project ... basically building a community of star trek and sci-fi fans for role-play in a very immersive environment (visually, audibly, etc. etc.)

I picked up a sim, named "Shipyard" and dedicated half of it for the RP. The other half, i'm selling as sci-fi / futuristic themed real estate.

Anywho, here's my own teaser shot

more can be found here:
Under Construction :: Second Trek - The Shipyard :: An Open MMORPG Community in Second Life

what do y'all think?

register on our forums I'll also send you a group invite when I login ... we're planning to open up this weekend.

We've got a few things left ... I finished up the "how to roleplay" guide and some other notes.

I also made various skins .. will be giving them out for free + AOs + uniforms and equipment. Need to do the uniforms ... got lots to do when I get home tonight =/

Hopefully, should all be worth it!

That is fantastic! I snagged Julian Bashir as an avatar name, and I know where I'll come visiting.

And I was reminded that I wanted to visit Crackden too.

I think the Galaxy folks are gonna be scared. Get a clothing designer with.. you know, talent, and you're going to have them beat aesthetically

heh, yeah, I'm paying very close attention to aesthetic details .. I'm going to attempt the uniforms myself and should hopefully look decent.

I'm going to see if I can recreate the uniforms that are seen in the paparazzi shots of the movie, otherwise will make a jumpsuit-style uniform.

I have some pretty good vulcan, andorian, orian and human skins that I created - will give 'em out for free for folks, including a basic AO i'm trying to throw together

Thinking of offering vendor spots for other body accessories? I have some sculpted Vulcan ears, and I was thinking of making a couple of Klingon foreheads

yep, for sure ... going to keep some small vendor space in the teleport entry "shuttle bay" up against walls. Will poke you when that's setup

Very cool! You should hook up with Chosen Few and the Sci-Fi Geeks group. He's built to-scale models with amazing detail of a Klingon Warbird and the Defiant in the sim Indigo - check it out!

Regards,

You can also buy a decent Klingon avatar there.

I was in a Star Trek group before with its own sim until there was way too much damn drama. Then I dropped it like a hot potato.

What makes the skin Vulcan per se? The eyebrows? Color?

I've got the ears! When you toss around those free Vulcan skins let me know.

Vulcans have green blood, so they're lightly tinted green. But pretty much any tintable skin can be Vulcan if you play with the sliders (my fave to use Cake's)

How bi of you, Quiplash. I wonder what does really happen between your ears.

I'm inclined to rate this latest SL Star Trek project "hopeful". Good-looking designs, Nadir. Thanks.

Now all we need are suitable Klingon last names to come up in the next rotation. Does anybody know if they've put up any in the past? Then again, don't most Klingons have only one name, like Cher or Charo?

Klingons belong to houses. Worf, for instance, belongs to the House of Martok. So LL could list the known houses as last names. For that matter, a group could institute any of the last names as Klingon houses and form their family from there.

This looks awesome--I'm definitely going to have to go check this out.

I've been to the Star Trek Museum, and I really enjoyed it...that gentleman put a lot of work into the build...I'm sure you've all been to it.

Anyway...the build looks cool.

thanks much for all the feedback folks ... spent a ton of time last night painting a uniform. I think I got something decent .. will take a screenshot and put it up. I need to make a woman's version of it (just boob shading I think) so that should be quick, hopefully.

Yes, there most definitely will be Orion slave girls I found an awesome RP lead for that group as well, so it should be great.

I'm looking for RP leads for stafleet divisions now.

Maybe I can write a persuasive email to the Lindens to add names? I've been meaning to attend their community meeting thing.

Any yes ... RP RP RP. It's all about RP, imo. I wasn't too impressed with the majority of RP that comes out of the star trek community, but it could just be lack of simple guidelines. I'm leveraging the hours I spent into the crack den guides. When I get all the in-world stuff done, I'm planning to make a much more better and perhaps visual guide to throw on the both CD and ST websites.

again, thanks all! I really appreciate it ... it was a very random project that turned out pretty well. Now it's just a matter or making sure everything is quality for folks to enjoy =)
