Guides are good if you can get people to read them. The biggest problem I've found when it comes to roleplay though is that people don't know what roleplay is. Usually ends up being a drama fest and popularity contest between the players. Lots of "I want to be the hero" types.

You just have to get it into people's heads that they're involved in a collaborative writing project more than just a "if I lived in this universe."

But you may already know that.

Screenshot looks awesome though. Wonderful attention to aesthetics.

heh well if people don't read the guides, they eventually fail at following rules and such and I've never had much remorse in banning. I mean, if they're not willing to pay attention to the rules, their contribution and details in RP is not going to be much! You are right though .. our ban list in the Crack Den is pretty long =/

Here's a screenshot of the male/female uniforms I created ... considering it was my first time painting a clothing for SL , it was so tedious. Finally got the hang of seams tho, and 50 revisions later ... came up with this:

I'm handing out the basic uniforms for free, which include the shirt, jacket, pants and boots.

Next is to get these skins and hair done ...

It's like a race to the finish, except the deadlines are self-imposed lol.

We opened it up to the public - if you all would like to come see, just do a search for "the shipyard" or "star trek roleplay".

The guides are almost done .. and they are THICK. However, I think I split them up so that readers can look at the ones that appeal to them most.

I visited there briefly this morning and checked some of it out. Very impressive.
You need some green though, it looks a bit bland.

Mmm, I was out roaming other science fiction and space themed builds and simply had to come see this one. I was particularly pleased to hear sounds being used. Silent environments are one of my pet peeves in SL.

However, I also noticed many opportunities to reduce prim count. Mostly in shapes and details that used two or more prims, that could be cut down to a single properly cut prim. I suspect the hallway in the entry area could have its prim count cut in half without sacrificing any detail.

I would also suggest reducing the number of light sources in the hallway. Using a single prim, or maybe two, such as how you did in the lounge. It seemed as if most, if not all, the lights in the hall were an individual light source, and this caused a lot of light flickering whenever I would move.

Simply marvelous so far, though. I love how many of the little control panels make appropriate sounds when touched, and the teleporter effect (I must peek again when glow is added to that).

Do keep up the good work. I will have to stop in again.

Ah, and that reminds me. I noticed that being in-character was a requirement to see anything beyond the space station, though I snuck down to see the construction yard anyways. Might I suggest allowing visitors to pass through simply to see the sights? If I recall, the Crack Den had a visitors option, allowing people to quietly observe the role play and the build. I would make such an option noticeable right at the beginning of the daunting notecard so as not to scare people off. I suspect many would like to just come and see, and possibly make a small donation if they're impressed. Also, quiet crowds of visitors in their free costumes would add to the feeling that the place is active and alive.

Ya, this looks really cool--and I'm definitely into trying it out. I do not know what role I would like to apply for however.

And to tell you the truth, I don't want to apply with Michael Bigwig...I want to go all out, create an ALT with a ST background, and 'make is so.'

The only bad part is, I have to wait 2wks with my alt before I join...that's kinda poopie, seeing as how I'm actually over 3 years old in SL...

Anyway. Cool stuff. Believe it or not, I read ALL the note cards...sheesh. *whew*

hey guys, i'd love for you to come out and check out the build over again ... totally changed it to make it more cosmopolitan Would appreciate the feedback!

when you get there, look around the "station" you arrive in (it's the OOC area for RP'ers and visitors) ... then proceed into the hallway, to your left you will find the transporter room. Click the base of it to activate beams then click to "beam down".

The environment was made to be as immersive and "realistic" as possible. A lot of things are interactive.

I just spent the past hour and a half wandering around the Star Trek Shipyard sim, and WOW. Just amazing attention to detail!

Tell me, is this sim an official tie-in with the upcoming Star Trek movie, then?

Hi Quiplash, thanks for the kind words

It's almost a never ending project for me ... still lots a details I want to go around and add.

The project isn't affiliated with the movie ... at least not at the moment I was looking for some inspiration for a new project and the 30 sec teaser for the new movie totally rekindled my love for Trek. Let's just say that after trying to get into the details of the build, I didn't think find myself to be a hardcore trekkie as I thought I'd be lol.

Anywho, here are some pics of the build ... feel free to TP on over and check it out. The RP is still quite quiet and I don't think you'll be disturbing anyone.

You can "beam" down to the surface or wait for the automated shuttle that flies into the bay every 30 seconds or so. The ride is quite fun, I promise!
