Business: The Rooke's Nest | WTF were they thinking? (Caution: Rant) If you've been following the update schedule on the Official LL blogs, you know that today LL originally decided to update 150 regions to Server version 1.19.1.80264, and if you were paying attention, they also planned to begin moving about a third of the simulator nodes onto a new IP subnet. Now I may not be one of LL's system engineer "geniuses", but I have been doing operating system, network and software upgrades for about 30 years now. And from personal experience, which I found out the hard way, about 30 years ago, that you DON'T MAKE MORE THAN ONE MAJOR CHANGE AT A TIME because if you do, and anything goes wrong, you don't really know which change caused the problem unless it's really, really obvious, which it almost never is. Well, LL in all of their bravado and self assuredness thought they would not only update 150 regions to Server version 1.19.1.80264, but do 521 instead; On top of that they decided to make the IP subnet change to 450 regions at the same time. ( I wish there was an icon showing someones head exploding because that would fit nicely here, but I'll make due with this one ).Can you guess what happened? Can you say, "THEY FUX00RD 971 REGIONS"? The official LL blog tells all the gory details. ![]() WTF were they thinking? Were they thinking at all? ![]() The worst part about this debacle, is this isn't the 1st time they've done something like this. They keep making the same mistake over, and over, and over, and over, ad nauseum. It's bad enough I already have the flu, but this is making me sick. /RANT OFF I feel slightly better now. Thank you for lending me your eyeballs. They were delicious!

Business: Fate Gardens Flowers and Trees | eh, you get used to it after a few months and find it downright comical after a couple of years and loose all faith in the future of mankind by your fourth rezday

Business: Fate Gardens Flowers and Trees | Seriously though, I find it helps tremendously to maintain the attitude that Second Life might not exist at all when I wake up in the morning. Finally realizing that Linden Lab employees view the world as a playtoy full of wholly expendable residents, there'll always be someone else to buy the land, helped me hop the gap. |

Business: Fate Gardens Flowers and Trees | It breaks my heart to know that you're financial bound to Second Life Serenity. And it's true that a number of people will hold tightly to that anchor as it crashes through the sea floor into the crushing hot center of a true Metaverse where those financial investments will be relatively worthless. |

My Mood: | I also have a $$ investment in SL land. I am strongly leaning towards selling some or all of my holdings and tier down, but I will wait and see what transpires over the next couple of months. |

:D
| Just a random thought. Inter-grid communications would be great, but having a visual portal somewhere on the SL grid which leads to the other grids would be neat. Sort of like the EVE wormhole. I know that's a technical nightmare, but it's just a thought. |

My Mood: | There's actually a system of half-working, scattered Stargate wormholes across the grid. I forget how functional they are because for the longest time the person designing them was having a lsl issue, but I saw one near my old store location in Raiden, I think. |

| Indulging Inaccuracy ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | One of my old neighbors in Vostrukha was coding a stargate project. He said there are currently two or three in various stages of functionality on the grid right now, but the developers of each have been fairly good at coding in methods for people to 'call-out' between the networks. I think that was the neighbor who moved away after a statue of a very angry, 30m woman accidentally turned physical and fell out of my skybox. |

![]() I have assumed from the beginning that money spent on SL land and inventory assets was an entertainment expense, not an investment. So I've never put in more than I was willing to lose in its entirety. Compared to past hobbies of mine, it's a modest expense all told, even counting many hundreds of dollars spent on land. So if the time comes when another grid is better run, more stable, or just more sheer fun, I'll cut my losses and strike out for new territory. | |
