So let me get this right. If you do not meet your goal you lose money but if you do all you get is the fact that you did not lose money (plus reaching your goal)?

Why not just promise the money to your partner? Sure, the money is not really lost if you commingle finances but the same emotional impetuous applies (you would react to 'losing' money). If you need more of an incentive make the deal with a good friend or a family member, people who you would gladly give money too if they were in need.

What puzzles me the most is the fact that he keeps coming up with all these weird "work for not exactly money but goodwill and bean soup" schemes, and a new one every few months or so on top of it.

And hey, that's cool, I get it... but either he's taken up drugs, or is seriously sleep deprived for this to come out.... That's not cynicism on my part, it's just rational. I would think Philip fits the model of serial inventor... his model of success is to be able to keep tossing out and trying ideas, no matter how good or bad, just to see if there's anything there.

This reminds me---one of the sf/anthology series (possibly the new Twilight Zone or new The Outer Limits...or another of the 1990s revivals) had an episode about a service that you pay to ensure that you quite smoking, or lose weight, or any thing else that you needed more than mere will power to accomplish.

The kicker was that the 'service' would surveil you for the rest of your life to prevent you from backsliding.

Will Philip's site employ agents to check on the truthfulness of claims of those who say they HAVE lost the weight or HAVE stopped smoking....?!?!?
