Hello Asshat Server!

Preface: I absolutely love my Huddles AO. I refuse to live my SL life without it. It is easy to use, powerful and comes with incredible support from Keiki Lemieux. It is worth every last Linden she charges for it.

Today I received the newest major update. This is big enough and has so many great new features and bug fixes I couldn't just ignore it. But it created a problem.

You see, I've had my Huddles for so long that I have probably 200 different poses and animations stuck in my old one. If I want to modify the newest update with the same stuff, I have to first:

1. drop the old HUD on the floor and drag every single file out that I want to keep. Create a temp folder to put stuff in so I can find it to move it to the new one.

2. Drop the new one. Reverse (1) to put everything into the new HUD.

Stuff that is copyable went right across instantly. It's Saturday morning so grid load isn't horrible yet. But no-copy stuff?

"Hello, asset server, may I move from this object into inventory?"

"Please wait for 5 to 10 seconds while we recreate object file in inventory. Delete old file inside object. Reload object menu and reset view to the top.

*taps fingers on desk*

Whew. That's one file. 199 to go.

I don't want to think about dragging all this crap out of inventory into the new HUD. It's going to be a lonnnng day.

Awww, poor baby.

That sounds like a lot of tediousness. My sympathies go out to you.

Umm... I updated my Huddles to the newest version yesterday and all I had to do was drop the old one on the floor, drop an updater into it, and drop in some new scripts - no copying of poses required. Did you miss out on the updater?

At least some of you got the update. I got the dialog box for mine and clicked "Keep"... and then the asset server decided to take a dump. The damn thing never made it to my inventory.

I received the new Huddles in a folder, not as an Updater. So, like Cindy, the only way I can use this is to transfer over all my anims. Fortunately, I don't have as many Cindy, but I'd prefer not to go through the hassle.

So what's the deal: who gets the updater?

Are you sure the Update is for the Deluxe model? Or was it for the Huddles basic?

Edit to Add:

Yes, I need to transfer anims to the new Huddles:

I Make HUDDLES™ » Upgrading your AO from v1.1.3 to v1.2.0 of the EZAD

It's one of the nicest HUD designs I've seen, with several pages of buttons for AOs, dances, landmarks, gestures, and so forth.

I have several notecards full of dance animations and if I want to switch, I just click the disk icon, pick the notecard, and boom - all the dances on the card are listed for me to play.

This new update lets you list as many AO stand animations as you want, up to the memory limit of the HUD - something like 30 or 40 stands! It will cycle between them for you.

Completely configurable, and like I said, Keiki does amazing customer support. She's a total sweetie.

I spent most of last night transferring to my new Huddles. The asset server lost my old huddles, so I don't have as many anis as I used to. Perhaps 100 now. Took me most of the evening.

The only updater I had was one that updated the AO notecard, to make it compatible with ZHAO II.

Yeah, I did that at first too..dropped the old huddles, started dragging out the first two, three no-copy pieces..

..before I slapped my head, right clicked -> open -> copy to inventory.

Made me a nice shiny folder too ;P

Had to scrape two, three no-copies that stayed in the thing out manually, but -that- was a timesaver.

p.s. I like the Zhao -> zhao 2 notecard converter.

:slapshead: I forgot I could have done that. The only downside would be that you'd have to delete the old script files it copied, but deleting files would be 100 times faster than waiting for the asset server to transfer a no-copy file from one prim to another.

Just for the record, however, the Copy to Inventory method probably exponentially increases your chances of losing no-copy items altogether. Which is why the Huddles documentation has always strong recommended moving anims one at a time.

I've never lost a thing when using Copy to Inventory from the Open window. I have no idea why. Maybe it uses a different method of transferring the data than dragging individual items does.

I think that's in reference to ctrl or shift-marking a bunch, and dragging all at once from your inventory into the huddles, or the other way around. I never lost any no-copy stuff with right click -> save to inventory either.

Heck, lots of products with lots of no-copy items get unpacked like that after purchase? :>

God, you're right.

I feel like such an idiot now, moving them one at at time... TWICE!

I want you to know that I'm working hard to make sure that future updates never force you to move animations again.

Quote:
I’m creating an updater that will be almost fully automatic. Future update scripts will be completely automatic. No moving animations or scripts. Just place your HUD and updater on the ground in the same sim and the updater will take care of all the updating for you.
This time around it will be slightly manual, dropping a single script into your HUDDLE to get the process going, then choosing an option from the Tools menu when you are done. Not only will this work for version 1.2.0 to 1.2.1, but also from every version since 1.0.4.

After this, updating from 1.2.1 to future versions should be as easy as dropping both the HUD and an updater object on the ground in the same sim.

Now we just need SL to settle down enough for us to dare:

1) Detach our HUDs without losing them
2) Drop and rez them without losing them
