Well, I'm not about to throw away years of good attachments simply because Invisiprims aren't supported anymore.

And I'm not about to let LL destroy hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars of purchases either.

The way it is now, is fine, the invisiprims just "are not there" and you can use an alpha layer instead.

But if LL ever makes them 'render black', they will have a hell of a fight on their hands.

I hope eventually LL just hotswaps the uuid to point to TEXTURE_TRANSPARENT. At least that way, regardless of viewer or graphic settings, everyone will see the same thing.

You have it backwards. Black invisiprims are just one of the many different ways different viewers and settings see invisprims. Them "just not being there" is not something that currently happens for anyone. They always show themselves up one way or another.

And, in the end, they were made mod. The invisis can be removed and masks from my freebie box can be used in their place. =^-^=

And for the record it wasn't LL that made them black. It's jus a side effect of how the exact same rendering anomaly like invisiprims gets handled on a newer rendering engine (deferred lighting)

Invisiprims work because they are liars, they say they are solid to the z-buffer but then claim they are invisible to the color buffer.

That's all fine and dandy until you get to deferred rendering, where lying to the z-buffer snowballs as the z-buffer gets used for... Pretty much all lighting processes.

This I do not agree with. If the items are mod, the bad invisiprims can be removed. If the items are no-mod....well, this is why you don't buy no-mod items. If anyone, I'd hold the creator accountable, not LL.

Why are they still there instead of being replaced with invisiprim free versions and the appropriate alpha masks? Do the right and left hands never talk to each other?

Have they EVER gone back and updated an old library outfit? I thought they just put them out there, and eventually depreciate/delete them as they make up new ones.

Update, delete or replace makes no difference. If invisiprims aren't supported they shouldn't be in the Library.

Did you know that the LL client can set alpha to 100% now? I haven't checked, but, is *DefaultTransparentTexture still in the library? (^_^)

Anyway: continuing to be ignorant is not "support". (^_^)y

I trashed all my old invisiprim-using no-mod shoes without a second thought. I was tired of most of that stuff anyway. Buh-bye.

What's being able to set alpha to 100% got to do with anything?

The point about invisiprims being broken isn't that you now see them. It's that you can now see the avatar mesh they're supposed to hide, with the result that new users, who don't know about alpha textures and invisiprims, are likely to log in for the first time, look at their nice new avatar and think, "What on earth is wrong with my shoes?"

Continuing to provide it kind of obligates you to support it.

That's not really true though. Provision of unsupported services is not exactly an uncommon practice.

Invisiprims? OMG am I having another LSD flashback???? Is it 2006? Say it isn't so....

If I counted the number of times I had to do and redo my items every time LL changed technologies, I would not be here. Sad for the OP but it's time to change your product and issue announcements offering past clients the ability to upgrade for a minimal amount etc.

Good luck. sorry I have been told the same thing every time I bitched about LL changing the technology. So you get the same. :-)

It's not a service, though, it's content.

I'm just trying to imagine a conversation between a new resident (who's taken out premium membership) and Live Help:

Quote:
Live Help: How may I help you?
New Resident: I've just started in SL and I chose the avatar of the girl in the red jacket, like at the start of the promotional video, and I've logged in and my feet look all deformed and bits of them are sticking out of the shoes. What's wrong?
Live Help: Ah, that's because the shoes we've given you rely on an unsupported hack that we've just broken. Welcome to SL.

Masks replace invisiprims. 100% alpha replaces *Default Transparent Texture. What's in the library != "supported". (^_^)

And, the most recent library/default avatars use masks. New residents won't know what invisiprims are or do until some oldbie gives them flak for using avatar alpha. (^_^)y

Like was pointed out earlier, there's only a problem if shadows are enabled. 90% of SL residents are running hardware that can't use shadows anyway. Hell, I can't even use atmospheric shaders on my MacBook Air.

Well, if they do what I did when I created an alt recently and happen to choose the wrong avatar and log in with their settings on ultra, they'll know something's wrong as soon as they look at their feet.

I'm not saying that what's in the library == "supported". I'm saying that if it's in the library and it's broken, fix it or replace it or remove it.

That might not be the best example, as *Default Transparent really is an officially supported thing. It uses the constant TEXTURE_TRANSPARENT.

Can anyone confirm whether or not LL is still providing avatars with invisiprims at the "choose your avatar" sign-up screen?

Yes, they are. Those avatars are also selectable in the Viewer 3 Choose an Avatar panel.

The default female avatar (Girl Next Door) also includes invisiprims.

Female City outfit (the one with the red jacket) is one of the initial avatars, and yes, those shoes use invisiprims, and...

they have an invisiprim script in them!
