| Linden Realms Link to the Massively article is here. Not sure how I feel about this, given I gave up and for all intents and purposes moved on about five years ago so I don't really have anything invested anymore. Does seem like a knell of some sort though. |

My Mood: SL Join Date: September 2010 Client: Current v.3 & Catznip | It's like a blip on the radar, SL has been going strong enough for ages now, so they include a Lab created game, big deal, not every user is a rper so I fail to see how this will hugely affect content creators, even those who create rp environments, since they will have access to those same tools! Now if the Lab was rolling out many inworld games, it could be a major issue for certain types of content creators but it's just 1.

Business: Happy Bivouac/Milk&Cream | I have yet to try it myself, but the impression I get is that LL is doing this for the express purpose of testing new features that give us the ability to create more "game like" levels of interactivity between avatars and the environment. That's a pretty big deal as one of SL's biggest failings is in the immersiveness/interactivity department. The tools we can expect to see from this should help content creators in a very big way. It shows a gmae-changing shift in LL's approach to development that is pretty amazing at this point. If the tools we get are all they're made out to be then I'll actually have hope for SL for the first time in years.

SL Join Date: 06/12/08 | As Penny says this is more a 'show and tell'. LL hope that it will give an idea of some of the capabilities that are available with the new tools. Sadly it's a massively inaccurate article by Massively (ahh, that's where they got the name from). |

My Mood: SL Join Date: late 04... that account is deleted now | I know of at least two new functionalities that are in there.... force teleporting agents, and force attach/give of huds.... both potentially dangerous, and yet both extremely useful...

Business: Avatar Bizarre Client: Crash-o-Matic 2.0 Blog Entries: 25 | I just tried it out. There's no real instruction, but eventually I figured out that you have to run or walk over crystals while avoiding rock monsters that bump into you and send you back to the start of the game, while obliterating any crystals you managed to collect. No idea what the crystals do, but you're supposed to get fifty or so to make a portal or something. |

![]() It does sound interesting, especially from the point of these tools being available to everyone else eventually. If this is just the proof of concept, I can't wait to see what the community comes up with.

Don't have premium, so it wouldn't matter but now I don't care much. Now there's probably a large enough community in SL interested in that sort of stuff so it's hardly a fail, just saying it wouldn't be for me.

My Mood: | I just checked this out and blogged about it. I'm guessing that the "force" powers demonstrated (force hud attach, force teleport, etc) will be estate level powers only to prevent a "griefer paradise" on the mainland. I hope there is more to it. Not only forced HUD attach, but also forced HUD removal, is useful for setting up inventories for adventure games. Forced attach to avatars would be useful as well for friend/foe indicators, or health indicators, or common animation overrides. Better yet, forced avatar replacement for war games (e.g. everyone is a battle bot). How about forced "fly" or forced "no fly" for 3D combat games. Invisible barriers for setting up paths, would be extremely useful, too. This is a potentially huge change for SL. Until today, SL was primarily a realm of RPers, social chatters, and merchants. Adding gamers as a fourth group, could really turn SL around. |

Anyway, I would love an adventure game set-up in SL, yes this has been done before, however the only one I knew of was more Myst style but then there's the whole concept of NPC's with automated responses, seems a bit too complicated with the current tools but I'm not sure.

| You've both forgotten us Lego players. Plenty of people like to build and script just for fun. And I'm sure there's plenty of other significant characterisations out there too. |
