My Mood: SL Join Date: 7/3/2006 (rejoin 7/16/2009) Client: Exodus, Dolphin 3, Firestorm | Yes, let's make sure avatars conform to a specific set of sliders. Sure, there are five to choose from, but hey, at least you can use rigged mesh. If I have to change my avatar to fit someone else's definition of the right size, then I won't buy from that merchant. I hope that Qarl's rigged mesh solution is adopted, so this all becomes unnecessary. For now, I don't have any mesh items, and haven't been looking for it.

My Mood: | I gave an honest look at their sizing idea, and downloaded their sizing kit. I compared an alt wearing my normal Human shape to my main wearing my normal Human shape, and then each of their five recommended shapes, and took snapshots from the front and from the side, with both avatars standing on an identical modeling pose ball. Here's the result of that photo shoot. : Sizes compared (Large image) It just doesn't work for me. They made the assumption that if one area is larger, they all are proportionally larger. Which means to get my normal breast size, I have to go for a "Large", but my normal body fat is more like an extra extra small, my muscularity is a medium, my butt is a small... In short, NONE of those shapes can fit me, and my avatar is not by any means overly endowed in the breasts, or overly narrow in the waist. Their sizing also ignores settings for cleavage and for how firm or saggy the breasts are. That alone makes most of them unusable, unless you like the 'never wore a bra and don't care that they sag now' look. And Avatar physics? Completely incompatible with any form of Mesh clothes. (Or with sculpty prim clothes, for that matter, if they are in the areas that 'jiggle'.) Last edited by Ceera Murakami; 11-16-2011 at 04:11 PM. |

SL Join Date: August 2007 | I looked at some mesh demos earlier today. None of them fit. No acceptable way to adjust to fit except to change my chosen shape of the moment or alpha layers so that I'm shaped like everyone else wearing that piece. I won't be buying mesh until that changes. |

My Mood: | Were I you, I'd consider giving up on mesh clothing until some degree of slider conformance can be created. As a customer, that's what I've done. I only have so much time for SL, and I'm trying to spend most of that just enjoying SL. I don't need mesh clothing to have fun. There's a lot of mesh opportunity in entire non-humanoid avatars, human accessories like hair or shoes/boots, 'costume' human avatars complete with costume (sometimes willing to put on a new shape as a costume, but not always), vehicles, prefabs etc.. Why not give everyday clothing a rest until the platform fully supports it? |

![]() My shape has been created my me so that I feel comfortable with my avi, so I absolutely don't care whether it matches someone else's definition of a certain size or not. It's my shape and I won't change it no matter what, except on my own whim. If mesh clothes makers can't provide clothes that fit me like system clothes do, or can easily made to fit me like modifiable sculpty clothes can, I won't buy from them - even if they gave me umpty L$ for taking their stuff from them.

Client: Always changing, and too lazy to edit. | I understand what they are trying to do. As someone making Mesh items I know it's nearly impossible to hope to accomodate every possible combination of sizes. If they are suggesting creators use uniform sizing for their various offerings, that's great. If they are suggesting people only wear a set few number of sizes, that's not great. With the Deformer system coming in a month, I really don't see this every taking off. Once it's in the viewer, it will all be a moot point. Also, why only Women's sizes? | Oh hai! ![]() ![]() | Maybe only women replied to the survey? ![]() I got it through a couple of groups, so I filled it out. I'm guessing as big as those groups are, they got quite a few people who took the time to do it. I don't think its an idea to make everyone look the same, more of them trying to be helpful and setting out different sizes of their meshes to fit the widest range of shapes. But yeah, if we get the deformer system to work, that wont be a problem.

My Mood: SL Join Date: Dec 2007 Client: SL V3.whatever | My shape is what defines my physical self in SL and always has from the time I discovered sliders my second day here. As well intentioned as this effort might have been, there is zero chance I will change my shape to wear someone's clothes. I've already found in the short time mesh has been out that some designer's mesh outfits fit me and others don't, so I shop at the stores that fit me for mesh. Not much different from RL clothes shopping actually.

My Mood: | I almost wish that LL had split the body shapes into 'body' and 'face/head' which would make things a lot easier. At least as a guy, I might have a general idea how i want my body to look and the specifics aren't important but I do get attached to a face. |

Rather more than just a pretty
face
| It's annoying enough to have to keep switching shapes so my bum doesn't look enormous when I want to wear something with a system skirt, so I don't buy many outfits with system skirts unless I really like them, but having to change my shape so it looks different from how I like it to look, in order to wear something -- well, it's going to have to be something very special. I've bought some mesh boots, which are nice, but I don't often wear them in preference to my Bax boots unless I particularly want something over the knee. I've seen some mesh dresses I quite like, but not enough to start resizing and reshaping myself to get them to fit. Dari's harness, I almost certainly will buy when it comes out, even if I do have to make a special shape for it, because it looks so good in the sneak peeks. But so far, the one mesh item I've bought I really love and wear a lot is the pencil skirt from Mon Tissu that Marianne told us about in another thread, and that's an inspired combination of mesh and system clothes. If only she made some shorter ones using the same technique..

My Mood: | Resizing my ass to fit a belt is about as far i'll go.. and it has to be a really good belt... I've held off on trying much out in the way of mesh demos. The half dozen or so that I have tried just don't cut it. But, mesh is new. Creators are still trying to figure out how best to use it. Mesh Boobs anyone ?.. Just n idea...

Business: Hello Spacegirl Client: V3/Exodus | I don't know - I think this is a sensible move by mesh creators. They're already going to have to make several sizes and there's no way they can please everyone. What else are they meant to do? (Wait for the parametric deformer would be one answer, of course, but I sure as hell wouldn't bank on it taking a month if I were them.) I don't see how this is any more presumptuous than inventing a set of sizes of their own - especially since they've polled residents about their shapes and have used that data. At the very least, it should make things easier for shoppers, even if that means they won't buy any mesh items from this group of shops. |

However, if each creator pretty much just does their own set of sizes, , then the chance that one of those fancy sweater makers has one that fits you actually is higher. In a way, the initiative makes the size problem worse.
