AOs

I am shopping for an AO. I have managed to get by with just a walk ao, but I want more.
I visited Cris' store - and liked some of the poses - but the only AO I saw was a pregnancy AO - not quite what I had in mind.
All suggestions as to good folks to deal with are welcome.

Well I've used many different pre-stacked AO's and I think I like the Zhao AO the best. It is easy to edit, easy to put individual poses into, easy to configure, has a hud... all in all a great experience. You can get a Zhao hud shell for free at Luth's store (REEL is the name of it I think) and you can also buy poses there but you can buy poses anywhere.

There's this one chick who is selling full pose packs -- good ones - for $1L. If I remember I'll post her name later. Or maybe someone else knows who I'm talking about and will post it.

I use a Zhao II with Outrider Animations. They came preloaded with a Zhao I, when Zhao II came out I just transferred the animations into the new AO.

Dude, talk to mourna - she's a dance junkie. Watching her dance is hypnotic, she has such realistic and varied moves.

Animazoo has a good pre-made AO, and you can also buy the individual poses and build your own. Maitreya has some good AO poses as well.

Check out Animation Warehouse as well. Practically all of my fav animators have stalls there. It can be a little overwhelming though.

Unless you want to invest a sizeable chunk of lindens in something like a Huddles, Zhao is the way to go. (And Huddles actually uses a zhao, in addition to a lot of other features)

The Outrider store has free Zhaos in some different styles and colours, too. It's just cosmetic, but you can get a pink or a black one, it looks a little better than the basic one.

If you need a hand setting it up IW, just shoot me a PM. But it's fairly straightforward. Just drop the anis in the contents, and put the names in the appropriate places in the notecard. The most important part is to copy the name of the ani EXACTLY into the notecard - spaces and all.

Another vote for the ZHAO II. But, it can be a little frustrating to set up. Having an experienced friend with you is helpful the first time you do it.

Prices of stands and walks vary wildly, with little correlation to quality. Some stands are completely stationary; some allow your head to move when you look somewhere; some allow you to type; some are in constant motion, which isn't necessarily the best option.

I like the Happy Dispatch and Cova AO poses because they're cheap and realistic. They do reflect a particular style range that's popular in Japanese sims, naturally. Otherwise, my best advice is to visit Animation Warehouse--most of the AO stuff is there, somewhere. Good luck!

I would really like the ZHAO more if I didn't have to wear all kinds of other HUDs on my screen. Someone, I forget who, made a smaller version.

Also this brings to mind Dancien's thread about male fashion and the lack of non-Caveman male AOs. I do believe Neil Protagonist made a set of limited edition AOs called "Confident Male" and "Confident Female" that Fifth Order sold for a while. They have pretty natural, nonstereotyped poses and anims.

Also Vista AOs are quite natural, but are ZHAO based. The Vista "Business Male"AO has a pretty good "Asshole" walk (a compromise btw normal and Caveman) which I like to use when I can afford the screen space.

The Huddles Deluxe.

There really is nothing better, and, really, nothing quite as good at so many different things.

Male dances are a lot harder to find, though. Sine Wave has a few, Animazoo a few. The pickins are slim.

I don't know about Torrid's dances, I use mostly Abramations and umm Sine Wave? I think it's called.

However, Torrids animations for standing and walking are THE best.

And Surreal has the best left and right turning animations out there.

I never use sits cause so much furniture has it built in.

Oh! One tip about standing anis. Don't go for just a static pose. Try to find something with a subtle animation to it. It looks soooo much better.

And nothing too dramatic and posey! A lot of the standing poses I see out there... NO ONE stands around like that irl, and it would probably throw their hip out of alignment if they tried.

The one AO I have I don't use 'cause the poses look so affected.

Can you snap a desktop of your SL with the Huddles Deluxe HUD open Jellin?

I am on a laptop and my screen resolution is 1280x800 so my screenestate is coveted and with this new chat box that you can barely reduce i have even less visible space.

So far i have stuck with my good ol Franimator modified by our Purple People Eater Pal from PA. And I have all the scripts and anims in my face jewelry so no extra slot goes to some AO object i need to slide inside my body to keep out of sight - yep they turn invis but i do not like transparent things hovering around and on my body *coughbodylampscough* so i prefer to tuck things into the torso after making them invisible.

I'm glad this thread got started. I've been deliberately holding off on AOs because there's been so much conflicting advice: buy a pre-made one vs. buy poses and create your own using ZHAO. I see the outrageous prices for some AOs and I wonder if the poses are original or just freebies.

I'd love to set up an AO with animated stands; I have a nice set of 5 that I picked up for free from somewhere, and I'd like to be able to use them.

Is it possible to put more than 5 stand poses in an AO? Does Huddles allow this?

And is there a "How to set up ZHAO for the complete idiot" guide out there somewhere?

Mourna, I may throw myself upon your mercy when I finally tackle this thanks for your advice so far...

Have you tried Zhao II? It's much smaller than the original.

For Dances:
HUDDLES EZ Animator loaded up mostly with Sine Wave and Animazoo dances. Maybe a couple Abranimations too.

General Walk/Stand/Etc:
Picked up an empty ZHAO-II and pieced various animations together over time. Right now I think it's primarily Happy Dispatch, Abranimations, and Animazoo as well
