Cool - I've been looking for a neck mobile to hang in my new house/castle. Where did you get yours?

Actually, I <3 WetIkon 1.8 for all its channel 1 commands (and maybe Zhao has it too, but I'm too set in my ways to learn something new)

I like typed AO commands mostly for SL "photography"--whereas sometimes clicking on HUD elements may "reset" the "focus" (i.e. "look_at" or head position) of your avatar (and thereby, possibly ruining your "pose").

The only AO you need is Dyke Walk. All others are optional.

Available free at Beebo's shop Brazen Women.

Tee hee. I love my Huddles Deluxe. Seems like one either hates it or loves it, but the configuration is..identical to ZHAO I. Same notecard. So I don't get it how you can hate the Huddles but love the Zhao because of configuration.

The only additional thing I configured is the dances notecard where I slapped in the names of all the dances I put into it, and... that's it.

I run it with a mixture of freebie anims and bought ones, no 'pack'.

Oh, besides, it has a purple color option.

The ZHAO - II doesn't limit you to five.

Instead of having 5 "stand" lines, you just have one line and put a | in between each name.

Well it's not specifically the zhao that does this, it's the script. Franimation, and I'm ashamed to say I don't remember who makes the script?

The original ZHAO was based on the Franimation script. The ZHAO-II has a number of improvements.

Well, to give credit where credit is due - the core animation overrider code is still based on Franimation. But like you said, there's some new code around it like the new notecard format, the stand cycling options, and so on. ZHAO-II is also a lower load on the sim than the old ZHAO.

To answer some other questions I saw in the thread:

Franimation was written by Francis Chung. I wrote ZHAO and ZHAO-II, both of which are Franimation derivatives.

You can use the ZHAO as a non-HUD attachment if you want to save screen space (I think it should work, I've never tried it ). It doesn't have any listeners, so you'll lose the ability to control it. But if you're a 'set it and forget it' kind of person, then you can put it on your HUD, configure it, and then attach it somewhere else and hide it inside your av. Of course, the only reason to do this would be if you want some specific ZHAO feature that WetIkon does not have, like the stand cycling, for instance. If you try this, let me know if it works

Setup guides - check my profile in-world. Several people have blogged about setting up AOs, some with very helpful screenshots and nice clear instructions. I've put the links to a couple of the best ones in my profile picks. The instructions for the old ZHAO will apply to Franimation/WetIkon AOs as well, since they share the same notecard format.

Did I miss anything? Feel free to ask any other questions you might have, and I'll try to answer them. And I hope I'm not hijacking the thread with this post.

I have a few AO's--don't ask me how

1) Zhao I
2) Zhao II
3) Lance's Zhao II
4) A mini Zhao
5) JK Animations full male package
6) Vista casual male for Hoorenbeck clothiers
7) Animazoo for male--comoplete set
8) some other complete male animation''
9) Dyke walk -I agree this is a good, casual male walk

Here's my question, I wanted to load the best of each into a single Zhao II --one of my Zhao II's has some auto load help thing-a -ma -bob. How hard is it to take the best from each and make a custom AO?

BTW. I hate the ninja poses (thanks JK for an expensive and useless hud and poses) that came in your complete male pack, but have seen some great AO hanging in the Japanese sims--(stores like Muism and Akeyo) so may look into a few of them to add.

I am afraid of losing an AO while I load my super AO

Any suggestions?

I'll take a stab at answering this. In general, you have two SL 'issues' that you need to be aware of:

Moving no-copy inventory
Several of your AOs probably have animations in them that are no copy. You need to be careful when you do anything that involves no-copy items. You basically need to rez the AO on the ground, move the animation(s) from the old AO's inventory into your av's inventory, and then from there to the new AO's inventory (SL won't let you drag items from one object's inventory straight to another object).

So there are 2 inventory-move steps involved. Depending on how temperamental SL is being at that time, either of those could result in losing the item that you're trying to move. General tips for moving no-copy items include:
  • Pick a location where you have build permissions, and auto-return is off, or is sufficiently long
  • Pick a time when the asset server isn't acting up. If you're having trouble rezzing items or loading textures, that's a bad time to try moving no-copy items
  • Move items one at a time. It'll take a lot longer, but sometimes when you move a bunch of items together, not all of them show up at the destination
  • Wait for the item to show up at the destination before trying to move another item. Sometimes it takes several seconds.
Editing Attachments
Another SL quirk - changes made to an attachment sometimes don't 'stick', i.e. when you detach and re-attach the object, it's gone back to its old state. SL also prevents you from moving non-full-perm items to a worn attachment's inventory. For both these reasons, the best way to put animations into an AO is to rez it on the ground, add the animations, take the AO back into your inventory, and wear it.

Once you've got all the animations you want into one AO, all that remains is to set up the notecard to tell the AO scripts about your animations. This is easy for some people, confusing for some. I'd suggest using a ZHAO-II, it has (I believe) an easier-to-use notecard format. It comes with an instruction notecard that will show you how to add the animation names to the configuration notecard. And as I said earlier, you can find links in my profile to blog posts that walk you through the process as well.

The 'auto load thingamabob' you mentioned is probably the notecard converter. If you're moving an entire pre-configured AO into a ZHAO-II, that converter can come in handy, because it reads the old notecard and spits out the text needed in the new notecard. Since you're mixing and matching, you probably don't have an existing notecard that has the exact animations you want. So, in this case, the converter will be of limited use.

I'd just do the notecard by hand - read the instructions, go through the blog and look at the screenshots, IMO it's really not all that difficult. But then, I don't really have a detached impartial viewpoint here

I just want to say thanks to Derevaun for recommending Cova. Just swung by today and picked up some nice, cheap, copiable swim poses. Ever since SL ate my first AO (that I'd been working on almost a year) I've been trying to rebuild my new AO using only copiable animations.

Now if only Happy Dispatch hadn't renamed most of their ninjya animations and made them No Mod. I liked being able to name them what I wanted....ya know?

Re: ZHAO II - all I can say is 'thank you Ziggy! MWA!'

I recently upgraded from my ancient Wet Ikon, and I was very skeptical. But the zhao II is very low-lag (I sometimes play on a laptop with 512K, that's important), easy to setup, and has a pretty elegant hud. I was amazed when I recently, with much trepidation, attached the HUD to a different place on the screen, and it gave a message about relocating and then showed up perfectly!! WOOT!

One feature I love is that I can turn off sits altogether with one click. So I can either use the great Reverie and Abranimations sits I have, or sit on poseballs with no problem.

The only thing that would drive me to get a Huddles is the ability to act as a chimera ... but, then, why not just use a chimera? I need that so seldom ...

And if people want to continue to post unusual places where they found good anims, wow that would be so super *scribbles down Happy Dispatch and Cova*. I have a short avie, so it's hard to find anims that don't dislocate my hips.
