Thread Title of the Week
SL/LL has gotten embarrassing! RANT

I'm to the SL age (3 tomorrow, thank you, everyone, tyvm, and yes, that is three years of my life I will never get back) where I tend to bash LL less that I did as a new player, just because things are so dang EMBARRASSING sometimes.

But it is still frustrating.

For example, it is frustrating that for nearly a year now, LL has had the ONLY forums in the known universe where you can't put links, make things bold, etc. - whatever that is called. Now, that's embarrassing!

But now we've got this ridiculously frustrating 503 thing, and that's much worse. So that when I go to check transactions, I can't! Unless I keep trying and trying, and waste more frickin time frustratingly TRYING.

Now I suspect they WILL actually get this fixed. But you know, it's just so plain EMBARRASSING.

So are like a jillion other things - plowing into the ground in vehicles, for instance. Or the really unbelievable one, where some people can't get LL to take their MONEY. Where every other business in the known universe makes sure they can at least do THAT.

You'd think they would be embarrassed about this 503 thing!

Are they? Do you suppose they are?

They are going to fix this, aren't they?

Or is it beyond their technical expertise?

Tell me they are going to fix it. Or else we might as well all take our goalposts and go home.

Only the most patient of people (and I am one of those) could possibly continue to try to run a business in LL, seems to me. Or maybe the most masochistic!

It doesn't matter if you can't make things bold at their forums. They killed their forums as soon as they took away the General forum or whatever it was called back when forums.secondlife.com was relevant to the community.

SL thrives on embarrassment.

You can pour 6 months into a project that works wonderfully every time you go to test it out, only to have the asset server or sim itself take a shit THE DAY you publicly demonstrate it. You look like an ass for all your effort.

You can make something solid and functional that works great for months and months, only for LL to update SL and break your creation. THAT's embarrassing.

SECOND LIFE the NAME is embarrassing!

You can spend months or years perfecting your avatar, only you log in one day and you're ruthed, your clothes are "missing image" and your hair is stuffed up your ass.

I feel embarassed when I say the letters 'S' 'L'. Therapy is not helping, and I lost my Raybans in a disco.

Yeah, I suppose I should have quit SL over the name even though I love it despite the other problems and it's the only program even remotely like it in existence.

I have to agree with this. Leaves room for us to be shunned by the real world for having "second lives".

It could have been worse. They could have named it "My Parent's Basement" instead.

I have grown used to LL incompetence, it was actually working nicely for me before this 503 thing.
And i learned long ago not to mention Second Life to friends family etc. 90% of people just don't get it. the name is stupid i agree.

Read the Second Life Herald if you want to be embarassed about SL. The stories are bad enough, but the comments underneath let you see some of the people who share SL with you. Imagine if someone saw you reading it at work! The shame.
