Funny. I have the same opinion of shoes and boots.

lots more but for better ones you would have to pay what is tantamount to a full perms sculpty set fee.

And that is just what is found on turbosquid in 10 seconds.

What nobody wants:

Not until it gets ripped by Disney and seen in a movie. Then people will want it and I will be sued into oblivion by the Disney Army of Lawyers. Even though I hold the copyright I could not withstand the counter suit associated legal fees.

After Danae's skin was re-used without credit by Minnu, those artists have gotten smarter. Most of the high end content I see now comes with a much more succinct and restrictive EULA than before. Ripping skins for mass sale in a different world is not something they take lightly.

so let me ask you, do you automatically assume that anyone who releases a great mesh shoe or boot has automatically ripped it off from a 3d modelling site?

Of course not. Why nobody rips anything off. That is why this thread exists.

Right?

i am well aware of what this thread is about. This isnt the first time you have mentioned shoes.

i am quoting your response to Laverne. She said she is getting to the point that she has to see the work in progress photos . and you said you have the same opinion of boots and shoes. So that leads me to believe that you think, anyone who makes shoes and boots in mesh has ripped them off.

its a valid question.

I don't think everyone that makes footwear takes shortcuts.

When it was just sculpts some people doing it got away with it because they convinced people something called retopo was not possible.

With mesh it is not going to be so easy for them as this thread is beginning to prove.

As for the footwear on turbosquid? Unless the artist specifically forbids it you can use them for personal use in SL per the TS license faq. (until TS changes it anyway and I expect they will eventually)

i don't care about turbo squid or any other 3d site. but when you made a generalized statement, i took it as an insult not only to me but other shoe makers i know who make their own poly mesh.

i wish the community would start to embrace and enjoy what mesh will bring. instead of being suspicious of everything and everyone.

I feel I should apologise - I meant my comment about the work in progress pictures to be flippant, but I was also in a bad mood, so it probably didn't sound like anything but suspicion. I am really excited about mesh - I just get so annoyed when I see people stealing assets and getting the credit (and money) that should be going to the honest, hard-working creators among us. I'm sorry if I came across in another way.

I know some mesh makers that came to SL after making actual video games for years. Their work is the best I have seen in SL. They have been at it for over a decade. Their work will always and forever be superior. Nor will their work ever look like something off a model archive because they are original and are not reflective of real life ready to wear products. I.e.; copyrightable because they are not a common style.

There are people in SL that rip stuff off. There will always be people in SL that rip stuff off. It got so bad that now people are suspicious. They have to be wary because a take down can delete what they paid for. Isn't my fault.

The main risk is making real life type stuff like shoes. Because it will be found on model archives. What can you do? Back in 2007 I had to endure all sorts of crap because of shoes. The solution the assholes came up with was to rip the sculpts, open them in a model app. retopo, and start selling the shoes full perms in an attempt to do me harm. can't DMCA because the sculpts did not match after retopo and it is a real life style. If it hasn't happened to you yet then consider yourself lucky. I gave up on it. I bought some full perms shoes once only to realize they were franken shoes made of parts that came from multiple legit makers. What an ass pain. So I stopped buying full perms stuff too. If you buy something and it turns out a part of it was ripped and you sold thousands of copies and the takedown happens then all those customers are screwed. As well as all the customers of all the other people that bought the ripped parts, made assemblies, and sold them to hundreds or thousands of customer. At least with sculpts you could sort of see the stretching to tip you off it might have been fudged.

Yea so after years of the SL ripoff routine you should expect people to be wary.

Once upon a time in SL any creator that dared to file a DMCA was derided and ridiculed and mob hated because they were "capitalists". At least that attitude has changed for the better.

I know people ripp stuff of in sl. It's happened to me so many times I have lost count

I think I am feeling over sensitive lately. I have already had people ask me where I bought my models. It's like a slap in the face. Everything I have ever done has been my own, start to finish and to have people assume other wise is like a kick in the gut

Laverne is right about knowing your creators and who you purchase from

I am not upset or picking on anyone like I said over sensitive lately

At least you are not getting death threats irl like I was back in 2007/2008 over frakkin shoes in SL. SL is chock full of insane people. Some of whom might live near you.

If I choose to start making new stuff with all this 3d modeling software i burned thousands of dollars on then you can be sure that 1. It will not be on this account and 2: there will be no shoes. Done with friggin ridiculous shoe drama.

Meh, this was going to happen when mesh came out. Especially with guns.

If it worries you, buy from creators you know and trust.

I've only wanted to make death threats over RL shoes that killed my feet.

Don't get baited... over reacting is a sure way to make people suspect that you have something to hide -- even if you're over-reacting because you're a super honest person who is genuinely offended to be included in a supposed implied but never clearly stated list of individuals....

Keep your quiet.... let it roll off your back :-)

BTW, not giving advice.... just talking to myself :-P

So my takeaway is, if one day someone accuses me of stealing mesh from some game when in fact I spent months designing it, I should take that as a compliment.

Fortunately (or sadly), I don't think my skill level is that high. Yet.

Hopefully no-one gets falsely accused

There are a lot of models on the marketplace that have raised my eyebrows in suspicion but it's hard to tell if they are legal imports.

Second Life Maps | Island of Darkness

Not obvious how to get to it, there is a telepad in the floor on the lower level of the mall that has one destination, Vault 101.
