"NOT JUST ANOTHER" Texturing Competition: info update

Calling all builders, designers, modelers, CG artists, texture artists, and interested residents...

One more week until another fantastic "NOT JUST ANOTHER" Texturing Competition is under-way.

The "NJA" event is a weekend-long texturing competition (although we call it a 24 hour competition), in which the contestants sign up, pick up an un-textured model, texture it, and return it for judging. Once the winner is selected, the generous prize money is awarded to the top three contestants during an informal mixer.

Come on down to the "NJA" event location, grab an info card and sign up sheet, check out the previous months contestants, and (if it's up yet), check out the un-textured model on display which you'll be working from.

You can also join the "NJA" group, and keep updated and informed at all times.

This is a very cool event, hosted by Glowbox Designs and sponsored by V3 Group and TRU Textures...come on by and help Second Life events thrive...and of course, win some nice cash, all the while schmoozing with prestigious artists, judges and sponsors...

You do not need to be a master texture artists to paticipate--we welcome all levels of skill.

This seems like a bad idea. I hardly see the point at all if the model is on display beforehand. Someone could take pictures, spend several days preparing, making custom designed textures, and win easily.

I really think it should be spontaneous, with no notice of the object beforehand until the event starts.

Yes...I see what you're getting at, and of course that was something we mulled over...but the choice was made to allow people to get a look at the model prior.

See...it's all part of it. I want artists to learn and/or implement preparation in their work. I don't mind people creating general textures before hand--but custom textures won't work perfectly--you'll need the actual model to make certain custom textures or decals fit perfectly.

If a veteran artist begins creating textures before the competition...well, that's all part of the job...learning to prep. If other artists don't begin beforehand, that's their choice...but obviously the model is up for display to take advantage of.

I've gone over this decision with several artists, judges, and sponsors...and we've come to agreement that the model can be displayed a few days before the event.

This competition is not just about winning and networking--it is also about learning. And learning to cut corners, and prep for a job is a good habit to get into...it's not cheating. What you put into the competition, is what you get out of it...

Why don't you swing by and check out the situation...(the new model isn't up yet...but I plan on putting it up tomorrow or the next day--I still have some work to do on it myself!)

Cheers.
