I have banned once. A friend had a house on my land, and some noob couple had found it, and had gotten the habit of sneaking in, and fooling around in her bedroom... So I ejected and banned, and they stood outside in a ditch looking bewildered as fuck.

I couldn't really explain to situation to them, because they were italian, and I'm not. But my friend is, so I had her contact them, and explain about not sneaking in to peoples bedrooms to make woopee, and they were truely sorry, and had learned something useful about SL. I lifted the ban, and that was that.

Now, if I had only had Redzone, I could have killed their avatars, and I could have crashed their viewers, and I could have made sure that they, and all their alts (if they had any) would be forever in bad standing on 33.000 sims. And I could have hit them repeatedly with a stick, untill they were dead dead dead. But what would be the fucking point?

Last time I got banned, I was standing by two people who were arguing, and I tried to calm things a little. So one of the persons reported both the guy she had argued with, and me to the owner, who she was a friend of. And next time I went there, I found I had been banned.

So I contacted the owner, and we had a nice chat, and sorted it out, and that was that.

Now, if only the owner of that place had had Redzone, she could have killed my avatar, and she could have crashed my viewer, and she could have made sure that I and all my alts would be forever in bad standing on 33.000 sims. And she could have hit me repeatedly with a stick, untill I was dead dead dead. But what would be the fucking point?

Most bans are about trivial, little matters, and can be easily resolved by a follow up talk. The way Redzone treated people were abusive and overkill. That is my personal reason for noticing it first, and starting to hate the damd thing. And YAY that it's gone, and zFire with it.

I don't think that rz was a protection racket, me and the goon squad attacked rz users explicitly along with cds and insilico, random rape apes have been dropped periodicly. Its people's power trip with their sims that creates problems from the get go. Sim owners and buisness owners need to grow the hell up, i know thats allot to read coming from me.

As far as redzone's and cds's they don't work, never really did either. We have had viewers and techniques from day 1 to deal with them. It takes 5 min to write an exe to fix a host file.

Linden Labs has been in the buisness of squishing us for a while and if you file a proper AR we usually are banned within an hour unless its the weekend then its no holds barred all weekend long without b& until monday. Now what i saw yesterday morning was a shocker. They broke no build crash. If a users connection exceeds a certain amount now the system boots you and prevents you from coming back to that sim specificly for an hour. not cool but i will admit effective.

Copy bots and griefers were made much worse by all this garbage, but are still more rare than you think, and i think that the worst is over and things look kinda sunshiny and stuff for sl.......

To the redzone users:
If you bought redzone....odds are your a jerk, shame on all of you. Shame worse than i feel for all the collateral damage. I hope you continue to lie low, one peep and i feel offended its play time like last week. I hope to god that some of you learned some valuable life lessons from all this lord knows i bloody did .
You seem to be struggling to keep up the uneducated front, why don't you just pull up a chair and enjoy the party like the rest of us. there's always room for agile wit.

That is very kind of all that are doing this and it is appreciated.

Personally I really don't want anyone to buy anything from me because they feel obligated to in some way. I'd rather y'all spend your Ls on something you really want.

Besides, I don't have any of my products out right now. I picked everything up just before all hell broke loose with the intention of rebuilding. Hopefully I will be motivated (inspired?) to start doing that tomorrow. Like many others during the past few weeks I've lost most of my desire to log in much less feel creative.

Thank you for the thought though.

Even if they can't, the parcel owners could put the address for the stream they are using and the people coming in can open the address with winamp or media player or the other standalone media players. I've done that a few times in SL, once as a listener because the SL media thing was acting up, and another when I was djing and someone else's was. And when DJing for a more standard MMO, you have to do it that way, anywho.

So, something for people to consider if they want to share the music with people being cautious in this mess.

On my home land, I only had one person on my list, who I deleted during the course of the thread discussion the other day about banning people. She was just someone who was around, and I didn't want her crossing onto my parcel because it looked like she was generally snooping around the sim. No point leaving her on the list, of course, so I've taken her off. I would have added a couple more people who trespassed but didn't get their names in time.

Anyway, banning by IP is a largely ineffective method, sure, but if LL ever wants to implement it, I won't lose sleep over it. A lot of parcel owners who use it will find it gives them more problems than it fixes, but that's their problem.

Public copy of RZ data anywhere? I certainly hope not.

But that way you miss the gesture spam of a venue. And sometimes, for instance with minimal techno, the gestures become like a part of the music. By streaming outside SL it becomes less of a collective experience.

I haven't bought anything just because I've felt obligated. I've found at least one thing that I would've bought regardless of all of this, in every store. And I've landmarked several of them and will return.

If you rebuild, let me know. I'll stop by.

It appears that there are no white hats in this debacle at all at this point. Our sources indicate that zFire managed to get himself banned for some other offense, committed, ironically, on an alternate account – the very sort of thing RedZone was built to defend against.

I've read a few of their ZF articles, and they seemed to be a RZ fan. Is this the rumor going around? LMAO That his alt did something perma-bannable? Boris selling RZ maybe? Boris being nekkid on a PG sim? Diddling raccoons?

Yeah, I seem to be a WTF magnet tonight.

I want to thank you for this. This was very insightful to me. Based on this I am looking into adding the option "ban by avatar age for X hours" as an emergency feature to my scripted security rather than just "blanket ban by age permanently". I do hope you stay in SLU and keep informing us.

Actually it is the attention whore parade float I made reference to long ago. Once positive outcomes occur the attention whores try to take credit for the work we did in the trenches.

So whatever.

The spandex clan is marginalized. No more spyware for them. They can look at what has happened recently and decide for themselves if spyware is worth losing their SL over. Also, nobody asked them to do LL's job. (The most important point btw) Plenty of open sim out there for people that disagree with LL's handling of what lulzcows bring upon themselves.

If anyone went by my marketplace store, its eclectic, but I wouldn't say weird. I am like a ferret with learning things - I bounce around going 'What's this do' and 'Oh, how do you do that.' alot.

And I need to go shopping but really, all I've got for land currently is a linden home....and a tiny parcel on an older alt i use for alt storage, tiny rp haven and occasional workspace.

Now, back to the RZ thing. I was first told by someone I'd just met, and all I was told is, 'It tracks your alts via IP, get GZ' My first reactions was WTF and I went looking for more information. Then a link to more popped up in the BB channel and I looked up more after my scripting class.

But even without knowing all the rest, my first reaction was being horrified that someone thought they had the fucking right to get this sort of information about anyone. So, how the hell can someone justify they did it to protect themselves?

Because that's really what it is at this point.

And flack is also the fragments from shells, if I remember weapon stuff right [not much for modern so could be off = much prefer blades and bows.]

Also, night folks, have fun with the troll/maroon
