How to spend your twenty minutes a day..

unless someone can come up with a better idea then the twitter hashtags that should be included are #sl, #secondlife and/or #secondlifeprivacy

You can either make a general comment on the theme, direct your comment to someone in particular or retweet a blogpost or comment you've liked. It doesn't matter - as long as you use the hashtags.

you need to do this a couple of times a day. aim to tweet/retweet at least 6 comments a day - the more the merrrier of course but make sure that if you do have followers outside of this that they're not going to hate you for cluttering up their twitter feed. Here's one list of tweeters who are supporting second life privacy. Twitter you can follow the list or just follow the individuals - it's your choice.

If you have a facebook account and want to like the page Second Life Privacy. Stand up and be counted. | Facebook even better.. there's at least 100,000 second life fans out there (according to the sl fan page) so we should be able to get at least double figures (yes, I'm fully prepared for this to be embarrassingly small, it has been in the past when this kind of stand up and be counted thing has been tried, but you never know). When you see something interesting you want others to know about or you just want to make a comment in general make a post to the wall. If you're casting around for things to tweet, you should be able to find things there (I'm hoping).

to create a fan page to hide your rl facebook account, go here: Create a Page | Facebook. iirc, you can use your page to go to the second life page and there's a forum of sorts there - feel free to ask the hard questions.. like why LL doesn't do more to protect our privacy and why Rod has gone quiet on his privacy statement.

Now we need numbers, so encouraging all your inworld group members to get involved is pretty important.. get them to tweet or facebook or myspace or flickr or whatever channel takes their fancy. they'll also need reminding daily until they get into the swing of it - and don't forget to tell them to pass it along..

the interesting thing about twitter is you can have asynchronous conversations like in forums and it can be cute to chat via twitter - as long as you use the hashtags and try to keep on topic. remember if someone looks at the #secondlife hashtag they should keep seeing the same refrain - LL, why don't you protect our privacy better?

some of this is easy, some is hard but until there's a critical mass you'll need to cajole and be nice to people. the biggest issue around making a trending topic is that you need a certain number of tweets in a 24 hour period and then the next 24 needs to be a magnitude higher than that to stay on the list. i certainly believe that we can make it for a day which may be enough as there's enough people out there monitoring and reporting on trending topics that it may take on a life of it's own after that.

If you blog, blog this information and spread it around.. don't be shy, there will be a lot of people who will want to get involved but don't know how, giving them the information to do so is invaluable.

and just remember, this is what LL wants us to do.. they much prefer us to use the social media tools than develop the ones they have inworld.. so let's show them that they should be careful what they wish for

I lost a lot of respect for that group when Belial sent out a notice absolutely slamming sculpty creators and the whole issue of adjusting your LOD to 4.0 plus. It was nothing more than a self-serving attempt to showcase his business. It was endorsed by Sen which just infuriated me to no end. Add to that BB using RedZone until very recently.
