In the simplest terms, don't take silence for an answer. LL loves to be silent. They like it when people go away. Don't go away.

They also don't like making public statements. Perhaps an out they would like would be if they would talk one on one with all the people making alt detectors (since there really is only a handful of them) and have them make it clear in no uncertain terms that alt detection as a business is dead and any further attempts (inside OR outside of SL) to sell it as a service will result in their accounts being terminated.

Yeah, it seems wrong that we have to resort to that to bring it to their attention, but ironicly if people do mass AR things like that it does bring it to their attention. The # of ARs things attract is something that LL uses as a unofficial metric in gaging community interest.

Or simply remove the links. Text is much easier to read than screenshots.

The fact is the next step that has to be taken now is to shame LL into walking the walk instead of just talking the talk. They still haven't removed the items from in world or made it crystal clear that all the bullshit parsing of what is or is not "technically" against the TOS isn't going to work. If disclosing personal information without consent within SL is against the TOS then they need to act on people who are collecting it as well even if the actual "disclosure" part is OUTside of SL.
It appears that LL isn't interested in the collection side of it.

Folks - do me a favor and move traffic elsewhere if you're discussing something not specifically related to alt disclosure.
If you need to create new JIRAs or go to the new forums as appropriate, go ahead and drop a link here when you move the discussion. But let's keep this focussed on alt disclosure. And remember: if you haven't read the entire thread, odds are you're just repeating things others have said. That extra noise makes it less likely anyone's going to pull useful new information out of later comments.
-----

Alt disclosure is all they are concerning themselves with, at least in regard to that Jira, and seemingly altogether as RedZone is still permitted to operate.

Or, perhaps a new JIRA is needed to address the collection aspect, as he states in this message we can do.

I'm assuming Misty has the editor set to the WYSIWYG one and she just cut/paste a post. vbul attempted to keep all the formatting in place, so that's why the URLs and images showed up.

Now, however, the likelihood of zFire even being interested in combing through his server logs for IP addresses accessing that URL is small, on top of the fact that unless you're in his database already he's not going to be able to correlate it with anyone.

People in the EU will soon have the power to get LL's attention. They will be able to complain about companies like facebook, LL, and grieferzone and whatever the penalties are for ignoring the new law can be applied. And especially the sparrow thing since they are in greece. If facebook and SL are banned in the EU then LL is going to lose a huge amount of revenue. So maybe LL best wake the fuck up and ban harvesting or collection of data about users without consent like their TOS says.

I think that's a bit overkill, really.

If you're that worried about it just browse through a proxy.

Ahhhh ....okay, that's more what I was thinking.

Also, do we have to refer to Theia as "Chief" now? If we're handing out titles, I have dibs on "Contessa."

He'd only need to swipe his penis against the monitor when Visual Studio 2008 was open to come up with some transmissible viral infection, in all honesty.

I think it is a pretty safe bet that most of us posting here were manually put in his database. Hey, after how much I posted in the old thread and am in this one I would feel insulted if I was not!
