There is no sanctuary. You
may think there is, but there
isn't.
| I Hate It when I Go on an SL Shopping Spree! I'm usually pretty thrifty, but once in a while I get pretty loose with my Lindens, and last night was such a time. It started off innocently enough, with me going to EDT to pick up hair for $25 each. Course, I had forgotten to go the night BEFORE, when my friend told me about it, so it was now Soup City there, with a sim fps of like 0-3. Eventually I made my way in. (Did you know you go faster flying than walking when the sim FPS is that low? Course I use the term "faster" very loosely - everyone looks like slow-motion zombies and it's like one of those nightmares when you WANT to move, but your feet won't go!) But you know, the determined shopper will NOT BE DETERRED by anything like common sense - the bargains WILL be had, even if it takes you all night! Then somebody hollered for people to take off their hair and attachments, and I joined in the hollering, and fairly soon we had the sim fps going up to 12, 18, and even 30. When I went back later for bangs, though, it was right back to 1 and 2, I guess cause no one was hollering. This is ALWAYS a conundrum at crowded fashion and hair or shoe sales because, of course, the people jamming the place in the first place are the very people who wouldn't be caught DEAD without their hair, ao's, shoes, etc. So anyway, that took so long that by the time I was through, I was deeply sucked into Shopping Trance Mode. Maybe you are familiar with this. You get some hair, then you check next door for maybe some clothes. (Though I bought none at the sale at Last Call - where I had to cam in from the sim next door, it was so hopelessly crowded - I did buy something not too expensive from the Canimal shop.) So you buy an outfit or two just because you're in the mood now, and they don't cost THAT much, which means pretty soon you are thinking of how you could really use new shoes to go with them, and WHAM, pretty quick you are L$600 poorer just on shoes alone. OK, well, then, might as well go all OUT and go to Tableau, which kills another couple of hours to make sure you see every item in every shop, and you come away with more than you can begin to even try on in one night, particularly since it is now closing in on FIVE A.M. Still time, though, to pop over to Paper Couture and then Shiny Things again because now you are so softened up spending-wise you decide - purses! - what the hell, why not? After buying one of the purses, I realized I already had one just like it, but thank GOD it was in a different color! haha (This despite having a folder actually entitled, "Things to Wear That You Will Forget You Have.") So this morning I assessed the damage, and it was about $L2000. On the other hand, I must have had six or seven happy shopping hours, off and on, for that amount, so who's to say that's a bad deal at all! Then again, it's just a good thing that I don't get into these shopping sprees very often. coco

Business: Illusions: Masks and Unique Accessories | God that's easy at Sinewave.. thing that irritates me is that man refuses to offer copy/no transfer dances -.- If we're talking about shopping spree records, I really don't want to chime in on the money I've spent on my serious skin addiction or the sort of RL money that Nicky Ree has from me ![]() But damn I know how you feel... a friend tp's you to see something, you buy it, then you start browsing, then you see what else is in the area.... God I love retail therapy

4 ears to hear you better
| I bravely fought the lag at Last Call for about two hours so I could buy 5 outfits. I think I got logged out about 4 times by the sim. And yet, I'm going to buy some L and go back after making this post, despite knowing that I will probably need 30 minutes to get into the sim alone. Because I just need 10 more outfits and I need them TODAY despite the fact that the sale will be going for another month or so. Ah, shopping. |

My Mood: | Coco, I was in EDT last light too. I also noticed that most of the shoppers moving in slo-mo around me had attachments to the extreme. Some people have no sense of how to prepare for a shopping rampage. You dress to impress AFTER the sale, darlings! System hair and non-flexiprim skirts are the new shopping outfit ;-) Personally I would go for a black ninja outfit, sans attachments. Very appropriate given the shopping environment! After becoming quickly overwhelmed by all the choices available at ETD, I settled for ransacking the freebies and fivebies selection and headed home. BTW, for those who have the Phoebe style from ETD, there are tintable barettes and ribbons, made especially for this hairstyle, available as free gifts near the entrance to the Eolande hair accessories shop. My Mood: | Oh my gawd. Don't I ever know shopping trance mode, Coco :> usually, interestingly enough it hits me when I go for outfits. not hair or anything else...the damage there gets limited to one shop which I'll rob blind of anything remotely interesting to me. But outfits...let's just say it's taken me hours to make snapshots of me in all of them in total so far (my habit. I slap a snap of outfit+me into each outfit folder for quick checking). And it just won't end! *whimper* by the way, all those snaps + cube prim + script that randomly changes texture and floating text on click = random outfit chooser ftw Quote:
Really..they could easily add a second buy option for copy/no-trans for those who want it, like some hair and clothing stores do. I think it's just moneymaking out of lost inventory items in this case. People very rarely use two AO's that'd make them buy a dance (or jeez, all of those they have gotten there) twice. There -are- of course no-copy/trans items that make only selling with those permissions very valid, like the expensive sexgen bases, furniture and the like..things people'd buy in quantities more than 1, especially business owners. copy/no-trans also makes updates much easier in the case of gadgets, huds and the like. Basically items that get new version numbers often. The updating of no-copy/trans items sometimes is solved cleverly through updater prims,. but sometimes reaches the level of you having to manually hand back the item to the store owner and getting the new item version handed to you every time..as a set policy, not the exception. As a little rant side comment, this manual update exchange seems to currently be the policy for Amethyst collars, which'd not be a too big problem in itself..but they supposedly check vendors to verify if you indeed bought the collar. Which means it's now impossible to transfer a collar as a present to a friend, as they won't be able to update it afterwards..no entry in their vendor logs about them. Way to go. That and Amethyst -complaining- about the time when LL managed to return about 20k supposedly lost inventory items to people because he already gave some customers replacement collars sometime before that made me just delete mine and go with the still prim-updater based, friendlier rivals, as I feel that's not a way to treat and chain people. Sorry for going a little off-topic there. All in all, I think people should be given the -choice- between no-copy/trans and copy/no-trans WAAAAAY more often. My Mood: | Strangely enough I never could get myself to buy single textures inworld :> Tho there are some (legit, non-BIAB-based) packs on SLX that made me lunge at them before eagerly. Good stuffs, but one has to be wary about not falling for resales. It's always a good sign when they offer a preview in the SLX images gallery of the product. |

A virtual item can be likened to a movie, in fact a movie is a virtual item itself. You don't take away an object, you take away emotions, experience, and memories, many of which solid objects cannot generate.

Amen. I've gotten to the point where, in some cases, I don't buy items that are no-transfer. Items that sell no-copy/transfer get most of my business, unless it's a freebie or a cheapie :-) For someone with multiple alts, being able to transfer an outfit from one alt to another is only common sense. After all, I'm only USING one alt at a time.

There is no sanctuary. You
may think there is, but there

| Oh, I wasn't even COUNTING textures. Those I need for my business, so they don't even count as "shopping" to me! Well, that's my excuse for buying lots of textures, anyway! Still and all, I've probably used at least one texture from every pack I ever bought - I think - or anyway, most of the packs. Now this Christmas, I have to admit, I went just a TAD nutty with textures. I think I spent $900 on textures for my 'Lil Christmas Cottage alone, and it was a freebie! (Well, on sale for $200 now that the month was over.) Now that, for me, was lunacy! I also went nuts over some gingerbread people ornament textures, and made those for sale, and also a gift box using them as removable ornaments. And all kinds of other Christmas textures. But then, I was kind of in a holiday mood. Helping myself to more textures than I would usually spring for was both a Christmas gift to myself - for the fun of it - and to my customers. I did have an awful lot of fun making all those things. But normally, I do practice a bit more self-control about textures. coco |
