Hail Woz, the great and
powerful!
| Essentially the current build of FS is to show you what the devs have been able to accomplish in a short time to give you confidence in how they are doing on their ambitious plan. Most of the phoenix features are not in there at the present time. |

Wants *things*
| I think the idea is that they didn't want all the regular users of Phoenix thinking it was a fully supported new release (and they certainly don't want people downloading it by mistake and thinking it's a supported release), so they didn't announce or host it in the regular way. A couple of weeks ago, they'd announced a new Phoenix-Firestorm Preview Group, which people should join who wanted to check out the new viewer, and it's from an announcement sent to that group I found out about the new release, not the regular Phoenix group. (eta: Shadowen and I posted at the same time) I've not had a chance to look at it for long; my immediate reaction is that it seems to run rather slowly in comparison to Dolphin V2, at least, and probably Catznip too, but I could well be mistaken.

SL Join Date: December 2007 Client: Nirans Viewer & Firestorm | Atm FS is a LL 2.4 build with some UI modifications if you use the default FS skin, noticed however that it also supports Starlight. Performance I'm finding a bit of a mixed bag, overall rendering really does seem to vary and in most instances Dolphin v2 and Catznip are quicker, however the overall interface with the changes to the inventory windows are much quicker and it doesn't seem to suffer the constant inventory window refreshing that most build suffers. So overall it's impressive just a shame it's not really Phoenix at all, has none of the Phoenix features just the branding and yet it's keeping all the v2 naysayers content ... go figure |

Client: Harper Viewer | Performance On the performance side it should be the same as most other viewers based on 2.4 code. Main differences are using the openjpeg 1.4 release decoder instead of TPV stock 1.3. There are a few patches to make the inventory window behave faster. Also if you choose to undock your windows from sidebar and use them as true floaters, then they appear to pop up faster because they don't need to animate opening and closing. |
