Where's the download link for Firestorm?

It was supposed to be released to the public today--where's the download link?

"Do understand! The Firestorm Preview build should be considered Pre Alpha! Not beta,, not Release Candidate.. it is pre alpha and as such it has a lot of bugs that still need to be worked out."

Essentially the current build of FS is to show you what the devs have been able to accomplish in a short time to give you confidence in how they are doing on their ambitious plan. Most of the phoenix features are not in there at the present time.

I meant nada as in, no notice of the release, not feature wise, guys.

Speaking of Firestorm! As most of you already know, we have been very busy working on the Firestorm Viewer. Most of you seem to also know that we plan to put out a "Preview" build of firestorm at the end of this month.. and most of you seem to be very eager to try it out. A lot of work has gone into Firestorm already but is mostly interface improvements and changes. It is critical that you understand the Firestorm Preview is just that... a preview, it is not yet ready for full time use. But this will give you an idea of what's in store in the future. If you would like to try out the preview of firestorm at the end of the month, please join our in world group named Phoenix-Firestorm Preview Group. The build will be announced in that group and you can find help there as well.
Group link here.

I think the idea is that they didn't want all the regular users of Phoenix thinking it was a fully supported new release (and they certainly don't want people downloading it by mistake and thinking it's a supported release), so they didn't announce or host it in the regular way.

A couple of weeks ago, they'd announced a new Phoenix-Firestorm Preview Group, which people should join who wanted to check out the new viewer, and it's from an announcement sent to that group I found out about the new release, not the regular Phoenix group. (eta: Shadowen and I posted at the same time)

I've not had a chance to look at it for long; my immediate reaction is that it seems to run rather slowly in comparison to Dolphin V2, at least, and probably Catznip too, but I could well be mistaken.

As they have said multiple times, there is a firestorm group ('Phoenix-Firestorm Preview Group') and it would be announced there. It was.

It runs about the same for me. The only reason I'm not persistantly using it, is that it's got the usual 2.4 "chat toasts ignoring URL color pref" bug (which I have a custom version of Catznip that fixes this), and the chat toasts themselves are SUPER DUPER tiny!

Submitted a jira on the color pref thing, but not on the teensy weensy nature of the toasts themselves.

Atm FS is a LL 2.4 build with some UI modifications if you use the default FS skin, noticed however that it also supports Starlight. Performance I'm finding a bit of a mixed bag, overall rendering really does seem to vary and in most instances Dolphin v2 and Catznip are quicker, however the overall interface with the changes to the inventory windows are much quicker and it doesn't seem to suffer the constant inventory window refreshing that most build suffers. So overall it's impressive just a shame it's not really Phoenix at all, has none of the Phoenix features just the branding and yet it's keeping all the v2 naysayers content ... go figure

Performance

On the performance side it should be the same as most other viewers based on 2.4 code. Main differences are using the openjpeg 1.4 release decoder instead of TPV stock 1.3. There are a few patches to make the inventory window behave faster. Also if you choose to undock your windows from sidebar and use them as true floaters, then they appear to pop up faster because they don't need to animate opening and closing.

That particular bug drives me utterly, totally apeshit, and I've been hitting the devs with it *every time* it happens so they can kill it.
