I was just trying to help her. There is no JFK going on here!
Did your friend actually contact the person who made the comic, tell them how they felt about it and wait for a response? I mean even if it WAS against the TOS, isnt that the first thing she should have done, in person, since she was upset by it?

By the time I got to follow the link, the comic had been removed and replaced with an apology, so it seems like that would have been the best "help" and advice to give your friend, and certainly far less public.

Attempting to settle an issue with the persons concerned is always the best first option, as opposed to immediately considering what kind of punitive action can be taken.

ETA: I just read the rest of the thread. Madison, I really don't mean to be rude or accusatory with what I've said above, it's a genuine question which is rhetorical and doesnt require an answer, and some advice from me that you can take with a grain of salt I totally understand you were trying to help your friend, and that you started this thread in the heat of the moment of reaction. That's often counter-productive... counting to 10, taking a breath, stabling the White Charger and enabling a friend to deal with an issue themselves is much harder, but in my opinion makes you a better friend in the long run.

Tis interesting, this question. We had a thread about it ages ago, where we nominated the avatars we'd recognise without having the benefit of a name tag. There are definitely many I would recognise in a flash due to the distinctive nature of their avatars.

I don't make comics for commercial purposes. They are just what they are: comics I make for fun and to share with others.

I tried to give the comic directly to Riley through Second Life but I couldn't find her in search. A mutual friend said she would give my comic to Riley directly. When I heard-- through our mutual friend-- that Riley felt offended/hurt by the comic, I immediately took it down.

Like I said, I feel terrible about what happened. I don't make comics to intentionally embarrass anyone in Second Life.
This sums it up nice, this was how Riley was told about the comic - from you via a mutual friend. You should not feel terrible. It is a classic example of how people can misunderstand honest intentions.
We can say that you should have sent her a IM and said: "I love your avatar, would you mind if I take some pictures of you? I can send you what I make of them before I post them on my blog?" As we sit here and analyze the situation later, it is easy to say "You should have done this or that" while it is easy to forget when it happens.

But don't let us bash Riley either. it is not mandatory to love comics. And if you are not familiar with the visual grammar of the panels, as Beebo said, misunderstandings is bound to happen. That does not necessary mean you are daft or oversensitive.

I feel tempted to link to a Seraphina comic: EncoreSeraphine.com - The Fudder Pucket Apology
I love it. The text under and the comments really build up on the comic. As I understand it, the "RL" picture on top of each comic is Seraphinas pictures too. You are a good photographer!

(But where did you buy those yellow bunny tights??)

I havent read the entire thread, but enough to get the feel for it.
As someone that keeps getting featured on Deviant art, and no i'm not going to give the links.

I think it is only commen decency to ask before you use, even if not required by TOS.

On the other hand I'm delighted when images of my av get used it means I got something correct.

Yes, Marianne, I do my own photography. Thank you for noticing.

I get more nice comments about the bunny tights than anything else I wear. The name of the store is *Sick with Lust* located in Nirvana Village. The designer's name is Red Pralou. I think she also sells them on XStreet. They are called... wait for it... Bunnies Tights!
