While Emerald is currently the focus of our attention because of what happened recently, all third-party viewers are held to the same standard, and must comply with the third-party viewer policy.
The third-party viewer directory is designed to be largely self-policing, but we take our responsibility to act very seriously when problems come to our attention. Our goal is that you should feel comfortable using many different viewers in accessing Second Life. While there are always risks involved in using a third-party viewer, we are doing what we can to minimize those, and we encourage and deeply appreciate third-party development. Our new Snowstorm project is an example -- allowing third-party developers to deliver more directly and rapidly to the Second Life viewer.
If you have been using the Emerald viewer, for now we would encourage you to consider either one of the Linden Lab viewers, or an alternative third-party viewer.

That was a surprisingly strong-worded response from LL - no attempts to hide anything or sugar-coat anything because it happened to involve the most-used viewer in SL. That took balls, and I am impressed!

Well, that's supposedly what Snowstorm is all about; though the reality of how many non-traditional ideas actually make it into Snowstorm remains to be seen. The moment I see breast physics in Snowstorm, I'll know that LL is taking the concept seriously.

I know exactly where LL is coming from with that posting because unlike some in SL I won't give the Emerald Team a pass and blame it all on any one individual because, frankly, they should have been watching for something like what happened because they know each other very well. Nor do I believe a "reorganization" that includes the core team of Emerald Dev's will EVER be trustworthy based on their attitudes, skills and past actions. Forgive and forget, my rosy red arse. Fool me once shame on you, fool me a second time shame on me. Yea Philips angry but he should also be embarrassed for hiding his head in the sand for so long.

Sadly, based on what I've seen in a lot of different group chats I foresee a lot more, "This is only because LL is jellus 2.0 sucks ass and want to take down Emerald!"

Yes they can, as evidenced when the TVP policy first went into effect some old TPV clients were reportedly blocked.

Well, this is hopeful - I'm glad to see a strongly worded statement, though the hardcore are still going to explain it away. But at least more folks will be aware of what happened with an official statement from LL.

the 2.0 viewer is NOT horrible. its a nice viewer that needs some adjustments.
