Arrow SL Blog: SL Marketplace Beta Updates

by: communities@secondlife.com

As  we migrate the virtual goods business from the XstreetSL platform to the new SL Marketplace Beta, you will see features being retired from  XstreetSL and turned on for SL Marketplace Beta. We will do our best to communicate the progress of this product evolution as it happens.

Today's updates:

  • Merchant email address
    • Please check to make sure that your email address on file is updated and valid.
  • Browsing for Product Categories
    • A “Browse” tab has been added to the category selector on the item listing page. This will make it easier for merchants to find the most   appropriate categories for their listings.
  • Unlist/List in bulk
    • It is now possible for merchants to mark as “listed” an entire page of inventory, providing a smoother work flow for merchants that are   publishing multiple listings.
  • Changes to Ratings and Reviews
    • Today, the Commerce team moved XstreetSL Ratings and Reviews to the Second Life Marketplace Beta.  The following is a quick rundown of the details:
      • Ratings and Reviews feature for XstreetSL will be turned off, meaning that no new Ratings or Reviews can be added to the site.
      • Today, we have migrated all Ratings and Reviews for all products that have already been migrated to the new Marketplace.
      • Ratings and Reviews for merchant listings that have not yet been moved over to the Marketplace (either due to opt-out or they are new products that have not yet been migrated due to our refresh frequency) will be migrated at a later date.  Ratings and Reviews for inactive listings will not be migrated.
      • After  the Ratings and Reviews are migrated to the SL Marketplace Beta, the team will begin to tune the relevancy of Search results. (Expect to see  results vary over the next three weeks as we find the most effective balance.)
If you see an issue with Ratings and Reviews, please make a comment on the Issue Tracker thread here: http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-2591

Thank you for your patience and support as we work to create a new virtual goods experience.

Sincerely,

Melissa posting on behalf of the Commerce Team

Aargh that's its, the commerce team is now officially run by a bunch of tossers.
They are now starting to cut features in Xstreet in favour of a buggy pile of crap. The new marketplace is so far from complete, one can only assume that these tools have completely lost their minds.

Well not for nothin but that kind of makes sense. It will just make things more and more complicated if they move ratings and reviews then leave it open on xstreet for more to come, that they will either have to move (adding to workload) or choose not to (adding to SL merchants shaking fists and complaining). I can't say i would have done it differently

That said, i think they are doing the moving a bit early. There are other things on the marketplace that should be fixed some first.

I like the new marketplace too. Its listings are much more detailed than those on XStreet. My only real complaint is that they need to start turning on features much more quickly than they are currently. It's ridiculous that, even though I've been selling from my new Marketplace for the last two months, nobody has been able to post a review until now.

Is there a quick run-down of the beta status anywhere? Like, is it a closed beta or can we migrate stuff anytime?

If you had stuff listed at XStreet during the initial migration, it should be there waiting for you at the Marketplace.

I have noticed that some of my main pictures didn't set up correctly and, of course, all formatting is gone from text. I've been going through each listing to check the pictures, update text and add Related Items. So far, it's rather painless compared to navigating XStreet.

Loving the related items feature.

The interface really looks so much better than the old XStreet.

There needs to be more distinction between the "store" on the Marketplace and the "store" in-world. The two links look a bit too similar for idiot proofing. Maybe the merchant store should be listed as "Marketplace Store" to avoid confusion.

You can build your marketplace and list anything that's in your Magic Box. Chances are, if you already had stuff listed on XStreet, then they're already listed in the Marketplace.

It is out of beta. the beta tag is a lie. The menu option on xstreet to go shopping has been moved down and the marketplace replaced it. LL is shutting off features now.

These guys are dip widdy idiots lmao. No wonder apotheus left.

That means I should be saving my 200+ items favourites list as some sort of offline pages? Better now than never? No day but today?

Yep the commerce team are pushing customers to SLM and disabling features in xstreet even though SLM is so far from ready its frightening.

Search is Newest to oldest, so the gamers are already start to load it up with new junk to get to the front of search, and well established products are languishing in the can't-be-found doldrums.
Listings are incomplete because the tossers can't write elementary software to strip BB code, and instead stripped much of the body text
Listings have images missing, etc etc

https://jira.secondlife.com/secure/I...equestId=13056 currently has 11 Show-stoppers, 3 Critical, 12 Major , 66 Normal and 2 nice to have issues listed as open, and the commerce team thinks its ready to replace xstreet, what a bunch of fucknuts
