Which makes you a pretty poor judge of character, I'd say. Since he's the one behind leveraging Emerald logins into a DDOS attack on the site of someone he doesn't like (at least according to comments on the SLDEV mailing list). It could just be me, but I don't find someone who's going to make tens of thousands of unsuspecting people pawns in a personal vendetta especially worthy of trust.

Even Hitler was nice to his dog.

ETA..not insinuating Immy is someone's dog...unless she chooses that role as SL is a place where consenting Adults can be anything they wish...at least for now.

I'm sorely tempted to post that on their bullshit spinblog asking was it 'simply to boast about our traffic' (fucked if I know how driving people to another website increases your traffic - maybe I've been wrong about the innerwebz for a long long time) - or was it someone trying to fuck with someones web site...

Or really fucking amuse me - try and spin them both together - I'd like to see that!

Click the other links there. No punches are being pulled and such openness from a Linden (who I totally respect) is both surprising as hell and also a very welcome sight.

Some of us have been aware of what some at the Lab think about the matter going back months now, but until today, nothing has been openly admitted.

The supervisor and owner, Fractured, is the rogue.

Thanks Lance.

I understand this to be true, however, shouldn't the same way everyone found out about how great Emerald was supposed to be in the first place be the same way everyone finds out how serious these privacy implications are?

I would imagine Emerald's popularity would have spread through blogs, forums, word of mouth, inworld chat, etc.

You would think that the lack of privacy\shenanegins, etc., would get out to the very same people who are currently using Emerald. Perhaps not in this case however.

That snapshot above with the majority using Emerald is insane. Didn't realize that many people were using it.

Does LL know about what happened with the alleged DOS attack yet? I don't see how they could not at least warn Emerald devs to be more careful in the future. Something should be done from LL on this I would think.

As Big Lebowski once said "This lack of privacy aggression will not stand."

We can only hope that The Jesus does not find out about this:

Of course you are right. I can begrudgingly look the other way if it suits me but then I never claimed otherwise. The last thing I am is perfect. Then again I never ripped anyone off or knowingly disrupted anyones inworld experience so maybe I can get a pass.

I still maintain it is a tad rich to claim sudden concern for the innocent emerald user base when he failed to show a jot of concern for the SL user base as a whole previously. Maybe he is a convenient peg on which to hang the 'told you so' hat but that in itself does not mean I have to suddenly respect anything he says.

Not exactly ......in my own case it was a simple matter of "leave me the fuck alone and let me build"! Simple as that. What I had was working, indeed the only reason I ever moved to emerald was that the official viewer suddenly would not let me connect. Even the Lindens could not get me connected with it.

I did not care who made it, cared less about Jiggling titties (don't think I have ever seen them jiggle yet!) I cared even less than that about all the shouting going on in the forums. It was there and it worked. Now folks I respect that never were involved in the shouting are suddenly saying 'hang on a mo something is up' so I listened.

I'm personally wary of 'XX% of SL uses' figures - because they're all grounded in bullshit numbers.

A LOT of people use it - yes.. but how is that % derived? From a SL number of users of dubious relevancy, double ups, and sign ups - which at best should be called 'number of accounts currently created' stacked up against a figure equally as bullshitty that should be called 'number of times someone has looked at our client'

Introduce the fuzzy math that doesn't take into account folks that might use more than one viewer - or the amount of people that download something to look at it and decide 'Not for me...' and VOILA! 'impressive figure!'...

Seriously - whoever comes up with the figures should save themselves some brainpower and just pull it out of their arse instead... it's relevance would be the same and it would take less time.

Holy Moly!

That is a lot of data.

I wonder if any criminal charges are going to be filed for this debacle. Just have to wait and see I guess.

How soon do you think one of those Hitler videos will pop up on youtube with someone from MDS replacing Phil as Hitler?

I'd do it myself if I knew how. You could liken this attack to the attack on Stalingrad.

Dunno how long that will take, but the original is still great:

I love the part about Orientation Island, although, it may be going away sometime soon.

Wouldn't it be better to show analytical graphs from Alexa, Google Analytics, Quantcast, etc. (or whatever it is they use to measure online traffic) if the real intention was to boast traffic? O_o

Might be more relevant than you think - the defenders did (figuratively) hug their attackers to death.

Sounds like a Love Machine tactic doesn't it?
