I would agree with this however, I think the defense would easily prove the creator to be of such a mind, that he didn't have the wattage to come up with such a scheme....and win.

I totally agree with the concept, but have to give credit where credit is due IMO...the creator has merely stumbled over the resulting crime of Racketeering.

However, it would most definitely make for a very interesting end to this. The amount of $300K isn't staggering but it just might be enough for someone to stand up & take note.

I said before, that perhaps LL has been dragging their feet until they squeeze this little revenue stream dry.

And prisons are full of stupid people many of whom had no clue what they were doing was illegal.

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Most likely every state has their entire penal code online. The federal laws are online. Also for Luddites this material is available somewhere like a library or courthouse.

Whatever the outcome of the complaint, I suspect it would be properly investigated.

Certainly here in the UK the authorities investigate allegations of cybercrime, and particularly cybercrime involving the harvesting of people's personal data, pretty vigorously, partly because they worry what else the suspect may have been doing with his l33t haxor skilz and partly because they worry that someone who stumbles into criminal activities this way may also soon stumble into more sophisticated criminals who will induce him to do all manner of stuff on their behalf.

I seem to recall a post by Stroker here some time ago suggesting the FBI take a similar precautionary view.

Certainly, a visit by the authorities, armed with a warrant allowing them to seize his computers and related equipment for forensic analysis, might well prove a salutary experience for Mike.

If it's possible to ban one's own alts (I didn't see that in the demo, but I couldn't make heads or tails of anything in there, anyway), then the obvious solution for copybotters and griefers is to pick up a copy and hide themselves in the system. L$4000 is a small price to pay for eternal, uninterrupted griefing, I'm sure. :-p

Greedy people like him really piss me off.

I use to have a nice little business in SL selling scripted devices with web service backends. I used reliable dedicated servers for everything and priced my products accordingly, to cover the monthly costs and make a little bit of profit. It was great for a while BUT THEN...

I went out of business because people copied my idea and started doing home hosting/shared hosting and selling products at half my price. No fucking consideration for their customers at all, all they wanted was a piece of my pie. They priced me out of the market and not many people cared when I explained why the imitations were a lot cheaper. All they cared about was the initial L$ cost not the reliability. I wouldn't want to own that kind of unreliable product so I wasn't about to stoop down to their level. I shut my business down instead.

I bet I am not the only one this has happened to. So yeah good going idea-less bottom-feeders you are providing crap service that's pushing quality out of SL.

I use to have a nice little business in SL selling scripted devices with web service backends. I used reliable dedicated servers for everything and priced my products accordingly, to cover the monthly costs and make a little bit of profit. It was great for a while BUT THEN...

I went out of business because people copied my idea and started doing home hosting/shared hosting and selling products at half my price. No fucking consideration for their customers at all, all they wanted was a piece of my pie. They priced me out of the market and not many people cared when I explained why the imitations were a lot cheaper. All they cared about was the initial L$ cost not the reliability. I wouldn't want to own that kind of unreliable product so I wasn't about to stoop down to their level. I shut my business down instead.

I bet I am not the only one this has happened to. So yeah good going idea-less bottom-feeders you are providing crap service that's pushing quality out of SL.

kudos to you for even trying. I have many ideas involving web host related functions. But it stops right at the part where I would have to hire anonymous to do security tests. Too costly. And if any of those people wanted to do it the redzone system would be gone in minutes. without a trace.
