My own and totally non-technic savvy take on that: Could it be that GZ still detects any kind of ghosted leftovers from RZ for a while?
It was said that there'd be some prims that bump into avatars to do (whatever?), maybe they keep bumping for a while and still get picked up by the GZ scans.

Actually, I'd be pretty pissed as a ... whatever, merchant most likely... if I had paid ahead on a subscription and it suddenly poofed.

On the other hand, the thought is pretty LOL-worthy, just to teach the most resisting ones a little lesson what kind of crap they paid for.

I had to start a thread in the Flogs......

http://blogs.secondlife.com/thread/61744

Quote:
The copybot claim and Redzone…

The lovely Emilia Redgrave got me to thinking with her public group notice sent out to over 11k users. As many of you, all know Ms. Redgrave is one of if not the most copybotted creator in SL. There have even been rumors of her going to court over the issue (at this time I cannot verify this). If a store of her size and so well publicly known for fighting copybots on all fronts, is willing to take a stand against RZ what other big name, commonly copybotted merchants are? I will supply a list later on in this post of known merchants that has had problems with copybots and decided to take down their RZ, in support of their customers’ privacy.

Ms. Redgrave, I feel did more for user privacy with that one notice then I think she’ss even aware of at this time… That notice indirectly pointed out that RZ fails at it claims of protecting users against copybotters, by just having one of SL’s biggest names, in the fight against copybots; publicly announce that she is no longer a RZ user…

Now for that list of other large stores that have publicly had problems with copybots in the past that has elected to remove RZ in favor of their customers privacy.

[LeeZu!]- http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/To%20The%20Nines/148/127/23 (Rz removed!)

:UTCH TOUCH::- http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/DUTCH%20TOUCH/251/112/22

EXILE - Shine - Treads @ Covet- http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Covet/182/56/32

LAQ ~ Skinstore ~ REALISTIC SKINS ~ http://slurl.com/secondlife/DUTCH%20TOUCH/251/112/22
(Rz removed!)

Lelutka- http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/LeLutka/104/175/30 (Rz removed!)

REDGRAVE- http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/REDGRAVE%20Skins%20Fashion/95/195/21 (Rz removed!)

Stiletto Moody Shoes- http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Stiletto%20Moody/160/234/46

Once again this is only a list of the well known stores that have had issues with copybots publicly. It is not an endorsement of the stores themselves but an example that the most widely known names to of had issues with copybots. Choose their customers privacy over a system that is flawed in so many ways…

I read this private message on my smartphone initially, where the image wasn't embedded, so in actual fact, Gigs didn't get my IP address when I first read it. I logged into my SLU account and wilfully gave him my IP address however, so I could take a snapshot of the whole PM and post it here.

Oh and Gigs, you still didn't get my IP address without my realising it, nor would it be a particularly effective way of harvesting usernames and IP addresses because you'd be banned within minutes. So, still not a great analogy really, although just as creepy as zFire's methods, I'll give you that.

Nice try anyway.

PS. I changed the MAC address on my router after posting this text, and my IP address has now changed.

Dear Serious Content Creators,

I have the latest technology for you. When my system bans someone it can splatter blood and guts all over your store in front of your customers. I made it just for you, I hope you like it and choose me over CDS.
Now I have a dissapoint. I don't think psyke's orbs do blood splatter effects.

Then again, they don't bog down the sim by rezzing mono scripted probes, either.

I went to Dutch Touch and Truth earlier this week wearing a GZ hud and they didn't had the Rz.

I'll try again today, I hope they don't have one of those, I love those stores

Wait a sec, I might be confused... just a list of stores whose content got ripped by scumbag creatures who don't deserve a second life?

Or a list of stores who all got Redzone running, either now or in the past? In that case, I'd be really confused, because Greenzone never went off when I visited those locations.
EDIT: Yeah, what Tary said...

Gigs doesn't understand the difference between 1:1 and 1:N relationships. One IP address mapped to one user name is not a privacy issue, but one IP address mapped to several user names is.

What weirded me out the most about that PM was that it arrived within two hours of me disabling the following option:

Quote:
* Receive Private Messages only from Contacts and Moderators
So for two days (when our exchanges in this thread occurred) he'd have been unable to send a PM, but it just so happened that he sent one within two hours of me changing the option? It made me wonder how long he'd been staking out my profile, looking for ways to send an embedded image.

Just logged and checked a couple of those stores with the GZ hud

Dutch Touch, Truth and Exile don't have Rz. I didn't check the other places but probably they don't too.

I think its best not to name the stores, because we all know that they can stop having Rz any time, and I would hate to see some people losing sales because of this

EDIT: Yeah, what Tary said...
They are stores that had issues with copybots in the past.. that see the inharent flaws in redzone. and how they violate privacy. They have either sence learning of the privacy violations of redzone taking it down. or never had one...

Basicly they are stores that copyboters hit first.. and yet they are still honest enough not to use redzone..

You know, I can think of one very well known store in world that's got one of zFire's games available for people to play. So, that store would trigger the GreenZone alarm even if it doesn't have a RedZone. It's pretty flawed that GreenZone only requires objects to be created by zFire really.

OK I'm confussed was my post not clear that those stores DO NOT use redzone?

They are stores.. that are copybotted the most.. and would by all acounts be the first to use redzone if it worked or didnt violate their customers privacy... but they dont use it..
To me that shows how much of a fail product it is... if the biggest names. the poeple who are copybotted the most refused to use it.

Yeah it was confusing. It came across to me like they had it and took it down.

Yeah that, though... umm, to me, it sounds as if those where you didn't put the "(Rz removed!)" comment still use that stuff, even though they never did use it in first place.

It might be more clear if you say it in several phrases, "Several well-known stores including (insert list of names here) have suffered from rippers stealing their content. Some (list of those who removed RZ) thought they could protect their work and put up Redzone, but they removed it due to privacy concerns. Others (list of the remaining ones) never made use of such spying tools.". Something like that.

If someone will point me at the sources, I'll get them into the Phoenix source code repository.

Edit: I can't promise a release any time soon, though. We're limiting the work we do on Phoenix officially, to concentrate on Firestorm. We're currently planning only one more release, and that will be to include some RLVa fixes and XMPP chat - and isn't currently planned until XMPP is ready. If that pushes out farther than the current 1-month schedule LL is claiming, I'll push for a release in the interim, just to get the privacy controls out there.

And out of all this, one other thing that's annoying me is that zFire makes a damned good prim animation tool. I'd planned on using it in more of my products. Now I gotta find another answer.

Arrehn has already sent me a PM. They aren't quite ready yet but I will port it back to Phoenix and put a patch on your JIRA when I have finished the Snowglobe UI elements.

Good. Speaking purely for myself and not as a member of the Phoenix team, I want this in the viewer ASAP.

Have you tried Todd Borst's Prim Puppeteer?

(Disclaimer: I know virtually nothing about prim animation, and about whether this is more or less useful than other such tools. But there's a free non-commercial version if you wanna check it out.)

Here's a thought for a valid use of rz. People that lose track of their alt names could find it useful (if it had any accuracy at all).

ps Not that I would ever forget who my alts are >.>

pps This is Circle and Psyke is not my alt >.> even tho we sometimes share an IP address and a bed.
