Earlier in this thread, I mentioned a few times that the person whose land I live(d) on has a Redzone on his parcel, for reasons of attempting to keep an old stalker from coming back. He has already outed one alt of mine(for an adult roleplay, at the time I had a child avatar that I used to speak to him), and when I told him it was a creepy and stalkerish thing to do, he said that it was his right to know. This bothered me, but I moved on, since he was still my friend.

Yesterday, he told me that he had been going to sexually themed SIMs with the Redzone hud and scanning the people around him for alts. If he found people with alternately gendered alts, he would out them. In local.

I told him, again, that it was a creepy thing to do and I asked him why he wanted to know these things about total strangers. He said it was just a game to him. I told him some of what I've learned about Redzone, and I linked him to this thread. He became angry when I insisted that what he was doing was wrong. He said that he has his opinions, and I have mine, and not even all the people speaking out against it would make a difference to him.

...I now have to find another place to live. I have also switched to an alt that has never used media to prevent him from tracking me. I know no one cares that I have to find a new home. Truth is, I don't think I'll be able to. I don't have the money to pay for a parcel of my own. But, I'd rather be sl-homeless than live near/around a person who is unbalanced like that.

I'll let this be a lesson to play things closer to the vest, I suppose. I never cared about Redzone until it got so close to my heart, my home. *shrugs* I hope that the people who are forwarded here who don't care, can see why they SHOULD care. You never know.

Anyone can buy this system and invade peoples privacy, anyone, your claim that this behaviour is not tolerated is contradicted by all the posts on those forums.
Read the product description on the marketplace before saying it´s not to out alts, the problem here is more than one is the maker, is the informed users who still dare to use it and the device itself.

If this system wasn´t a problem there would be no victism to it none.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. zFire is fully aware of the fact people use the device to detect alts, in fact he even markets it as a way to do so. The forum you linked to is filled with post after post of people bragging about 'outing alts' and he does nothing but encourage them to continue.

It is NOT a security device. It does a piss poor job of alt matching, so even when someone does try to ban alts, more often than not they end up banning completely unrelated avatars that it has incorrectly linked.

And as for it's boast of copybot detection? BS. Out of the over 68,000 people banned by Rz, only .025% were banned for copybotting. That's 1/4 of 1%. That makes Rz the biggest "copybot detector" failure in history.

Here I'll have to disagree. If it wasn't for the inordinate power that this device gives the user, there would BE no issues, there would BE no stalking (this way anyway) and there would BE no uproar.
I have no idea what the creator was on about when he made this ... thing. I'd even go so far as to call it a menace, due to my experience with it and the people who use it.

Even if there was some measure of control over who can buy and use it, I might feel better about it. But there isn't. Anyone with 4K to burn can buy this thing and use it to stalk, harass, and otherwise make people miserable.

The user and the device are both to blame here.

Sure, he might disable the guys toy. It looks good. And it makes his other "alt buster" users all warm and fuzzy inside. And there is nothing stopping this guy from creating a brand new shiny alt, buying a new system ($17.00USD) and continuing on his merry way. People cannot be regulated by these creators.

And yes, I do not agree with most of you, but I CAN understand...
But I still think its not the fault of the creator of this tool (every scrip kiddy can create this privately without you knowing).

The problem is at first the way the internet in whole works, then the rules of LL and how they implement it and how their viewer works...

And yes, I KNOW you want to see it different because its more convenient for the most of the rZ-haters, but it is a security device first...

I just counted for that the last month KNOWN 26 copybot and/or griefers where trying to come on my sim. And got kicked out.

There are a few thing LL never should have done:

- Allow Free anonymous alt;
- Never should have give its viewer opensource.

Then we would never got copybotters and so much griefers..

Most say LL is in violation with his own TOS. Personally I don't agree, but again I DO understand why some disagree with me on this.

Understand that when I came to SL as designer LL promised me in the TOS copyright and protection of theft. But they just changed that when the made the viewer opensource. Because copybotter where very hard to catch due the FREE alt accounts...

You see, the whole problem leds waaaay back.. And since LL doesn't do much or cannot do much in a lot of cases to catch and ban the copybotter, we designers try to protect us the best we can.

And yes.. rZ is not holy, it's not perfect, but believe it or not.. It helps...
The rate of 0.025 % seems little, but that is only the percentage the system itself caught. But the truth is, copybotters are getting smarter, spoofing ip's, spoofing mac-adresses, cloning viewer info. So on that moment NONE system can detect it, accept the human eye. And that is what we also share in this system. User take pictures of copybotters, and report them in our neighboorwatch. And if anybody find a better system which would make everybody happy, I would gladly drop rZ.

And its VERY sad some users abuse it... I am NOT one of them. I just try to protect what is mine, and I don't give a rats ass about somebodies alt... I really don't.

In a perfect SL world without griefers and copybotters I would have never used it.

You can bash me all I want... Again, I just wanted to help with my first post. I am not here to say, you are wrong and I am right... I just see both sides and try to manage with the tools I can get to protect my hard work.

You are astoundingly incorrect, on both counts.

Those things made copybotting a bit easier, but both were possible (and occurred) before anonymous accounts and the opensourcing of the viewer.

You need to consider your audience when you say these sorts of things... if you don't do your research you'll wind up limping all the way home.

It's amazing how many people think copybot came along AFTER the viewer was open sourced. The first copybot iterations weren't even SL viewers. Just very basic Windows apps built using libsecondlife.

Erm...why not post with your designer account? Would it make you upset if someone found it out through some tool another built and yet another used and shared with all his friends? All in the name of protecting a website of course, always altruistic at the front of things right?

No really...why post 'anonymously' about a tool that outs alts? Why not share your info with us, since you seem to not care that your tool shares others' info with anyone that pays?
