For each store that uses RZ? That's a hell of a lot of petitions, none of which on its own would be likely to do much.

I remember when the first posters against copying and IP theft started really cropping up in stores, years ago, before I ever designed anything in SL, or even knew that such a thing was possible. The information within them was much the same, even worse in this sense as they of course called for much harsher sanctions against stores known to sell copied items (as they should- no argument) But the point was that copying someone's stuff was theft.

In this case it's a different kind of theft. But it's still taking something without express consent. While your IP is no secret, the problem comes when you link that IP, rightly or wrongly (and it's wrong a whole lot due to the nature of IP) to other accounts, and create a database of same, which can then be used to ban *all* accounts on an IP regardless of whether or not they're really the same person- and worse! Ban them with the charge of "copybotter" whether or not that has any basis in fact. It is *still* a kind of theft. Ignorance of how it works doesn't mean the theft isn't happening.

I ask the same question I did in the Joshua Sao Estates thread last week:

How many people would, if presented upon teleporting in to a location saw a sign that said "entering this store means you will be scanned by Red Zone copybot protection. By using this system, we will log your IP and connect it to any alts you may have, including their names. When you enter this store, you consent to this scan and information being collected." ever walk into the store?

If this system is something to not be ashamed of, then such a sign would not be a problem. The issue is that it's done in secret, without any consent of the person who visits the sim. I gotta tell you in all honesty, I dont feel a lot of sympathy for people who knowingly choose to do such a thing.

Information works better than any petition.

I've only read this far and I'm with Orin and actually Humps.

None of it makes any sense to be honest and I'll take it a step further and say that it's stuff like this that really make me want to never log back in.

It's like the whole SL world has gone BatShitCrazy (and I hate that word).

And really, that's what I see greenzone versus redzone as....flames against flames.
