do we have a list of names yet? I heard a whisper that Cyn has gone and tbh it brought a smile to my face - which is very uncharitable considering but I'm not going to apologise.

I notice that the emphasis is back on it being an entertainment platform now - browser based and with a focus on social networks really does make me think we're going to end up a version of farmville before this is over..

ah well, interesting times ahead - as usual

30% staff reductions ... does that mean all Linden Avatars are going to be tinies ?

Cutting the smart people got them into this mess, cutting more of them won't help. I wish they would instead see that cost cutting bull crap will only hurt their business. It doesn't matter how little your operation cost are if you're not making any money, because all your users leave.

Inworldz I heard that Pink was on the list.
But I don't know if it is true of course.
Might just be a rumor.
I would second that decision BTW.

Integrating SL with Facebook does open up some interesting opportunities to extend the definition of a Facebook "poke".

Removing Babbage Linden is the stupidest thing they can do.

Say good bye to your script fixes and improvements, the grid will not get better.

Apparently the Brighton office is going away (i.e. Harry Linden.)

Also, Rodney Linden just got fired. Or laid off, or something. Long story short, he's not working for LL anymore.

At the end of 2003, it really felt like there was a 50/50 chance that SL would survive. I am getting the same feeling now.

tbh I don't think it's that even anymore. This lot haven't demonstrated the management skills needed to do more with less.

As for pink going - I suspected something might be up when jack was put in charge however I'm genuinely sad to see her go. She was the only linden I'd ever consider giving a job to as she was the only one who demonstrated a level of professionalism. Many may jeer, but she's light years ahead of the normal amateurism that LL indulges in when dealing with its customers.

Hmmm Cyn was moved from Customer Service to VP Partnerships in April, it would be a little odd to do that and then lay her off w/in 6 weeks.

But then, much is odd at LL.

ETA: Keep in mind that some departures may be voluntary, not a layoff.

All I can say is wow. And a browser based only interaction. wow. Can I say that again? wow...

/me muddles off to go sell some land as it's not looking to good.

But hey! Pretty soon you wil be able to play second life with your 2 year old on a glorified flash game browser together. You can tell them mommy used to be a escort for 25 cents a hr. at crappy box clubs with a zillion transparent thingies. lol. (kidding) - kinda.

aghh. Why dos this make me feel like just hanging it al up once and for all. It's a pity. SL really had something once. If it crashes and burns completely I will tell you who I am. I'm not sure I have the will to do it all again in Inworldz as much as they are doing well.

My head actually hurts from thinking about this. I had some big plans coming up that now I don't know if it is worth it or not.

Unfortunately, I doubt M Linden -- or even 30% of him -- is going to be laid off.

You know for a company that boasts about the cost savings of teleconferencing / working in SL for a business, and how super awesome it is... I find that this is HIGHLY IRONIC.

We need a stronger word for irony.

She didn't have a real clue about SL or Xstreet when she arrived, but from day one she communicated on the Xstreet forums as if she knew it all. That didn't make here really popular. She lost a lot of credits from a lot of merchants starting on day one that way.
And here arrogant postings during the closing of the old merchant forums didn't do her popularity any good either.
All in all she screwed a lot of my SL experience and her arrival was the start of me leaving the place (which is happening these days)
So not that I'm cheering that she looses her job, but I don't cry about the loss for SL either.
