Secondly, Linden Lab will look to extend the Second Life experience into popular social networks. "Ultimately, we want to make Second Life more accessible and relevant to a wider population," he said.
"Sorry Joe, your going to have to go. Because we need to increase the size of our friends
list."

M Linden will be the death of linden labs, the stupid browser based software will be the nail in the coffin.

I will stick it out until it is gone, but time to jump ship and try to find an alternitive people.

Pink Linden is not in search any more. Will the new marketplace roll out on the 10th?

Of course they will not tell you they struggle, read other press releases about restructering, companies always find a story which sounds good....

It just seems like the sensible thing to do.

Time has proven my instinct was correct. The moment I downloaded V2, my first thought and gut instinct was LL wants to become a web browser. I thought "it looks like they want to do a big swift change of direction. It looks and acts like a web browser". I really sensed and felt abandoned....lol

In my humble opinion, I also thought "why be just another web browser?" But then who am I to LL...just a pion....lol.

What I personally didn't like when I read the article, now we are consumers not residents. Yes, towards the end of the press release we were referred to as residents but I think future press releases will use the word consumer more n more and residents less n less.

The saying "They threw the baby out with the bath water comes to mind"

Also they say they have made the experience better for the users. Really? Once those newer residents become familiar with the way V2.0 works they will face the same issues us older residents face. V2.0 is essentially a new coat of paint but the technical, content theft & privacy issues that really need to be worked on are still be there. There needs to be bigger investment in those areas to really retain both older and newer residents and attract the beloved consumer they want to court and get on board. But somehow I don't think that is the ultimate objective behind what LL wants to accomplish in the next while.

I feel bad for the employees who have lost their jobs. I hope they are given good packages to help them transition and find new and better jobs for themselves.

In case you didn't know, Blue Mars is setting up to use the AMD Fusion Render Server, so that it will run on portables also, but not *exclusively* on browser-based systems. If SL follows that path, it opens it up to more users, so that could be a good thing. But if they go *exclusively* browser based, that will kill it for a lot of people.

Until this becomes clearer, I think my Lindex trading days are over for now. As soon as my current trades complete. I think I will put my money somewhere safer, like Junk Bonds. That's not a joke, I mean that quite literally.

Wrapping an application in a browser-based shell is a great way to produce a completely defective product. I haven't seen a program built around a browser plugin that didn't suck in ways that would turn a black hole green with envy.

I heard they fired Jeff Linden as well. I think he was the first Linden I ever saw in world.

I can't. I haven't used Google's desktop apps since I realized I can't accept their terms of service.
