Or: Why the hell did they build things this way!?

(Warning: Rant. The following blocks of text may be long winded, obtuse, and of a generally negative tone. The views expressed herein are probably not shared by anyone and may in fact piss a few people off)
tl;dr: Shit sucks. Plz fix it. Kthxbai.


For example, ok, the sim i'm in is going down. Why do you have to disconnect me? A TP home would be great...

Speaking of disconnects, why do they necessitate shutting down the viewer? Why not just go back to the login screen?

And another thing! No-copy group items get deleted! I'm sorry, but deletion of content due to someone clicking "return all" is INEXCUSABLE. Why not track who uploaded it and return it to them? Or, simpler, leave the group deeded items alone during a return all and then the involved persons can sort it out.

Why in the name of crap do they stick a "search" box where the packet loss/bandwidth meters belong in Windlight? Guys, search is already a single click away. Cmon. If i wanted the onrez viewer, i'd use the onrez viewer.

Why does teleport get "blocked" when you need it the most? (After getting orbited, in uncomfortable situations..)

Speaking of orbiting, WTF? Orbit has been around for at least 15 (More like 9001..) versions and there's STILL not a maximum height on which avatars/objects can go? Can you name a single reason why people need to be able to go above 9999m?

Why are there "camera constraints" by default that one must go in and disable? Why not let the camera go as far as your draw distance is set?

Why do objects end up with NC,NM,NT permissions when this is SUPPOSED to be impossible?

Speaking of permissions, designers, if you're not going to allow transfer, please please PLEASE allow copy+mod. I'm not talking about scripts, which is an entirely different matter, i'm talking about the prims which the scripts are housed in. (Or, the sliders of which the clothing is comprised) No copy is a pain in the ass because if you make an outfit with something attached, then you always end up hunting that item again if you change! Also, SL likes to eat no-copy items. Fail to rez? WHOOPS! Item's gone into the ether.

I'm STILL a big fan of allowing one-off transfers of copyable items (including any copies in your inventory and in world)..and a a "seal" if you will, that once you mod something, you lose the ability to transfer it.

Cache STILL doesn't work quite right. It got broken somewhere around 1.6!

Why do we still see particle systems when the emitter for those particles is occluded? This would go a long way to stopping idiots with their particle bombs..


That's not to say that I'm not appreciative of what you guys have done... Windlight is GORGEOUS, flex and sculpted prims have added a lot to the world, and stability does seem to be on the rise a bit.

But it seems like these problems have been around FOREVER! Shit's annoying!

I just really hate how I can have the editor and color picker up, but I have to click on the color picker once to "enable" it and then again to actually activate a color. I don't understand why it needs to do this, am I missing some critical functionality that this depends on? My new habit is to just rapidly click on the color I want until I see the prim change.

Sometimes, when I alt-cam through a project, the view will suddenly swing in a random direction, zoom out to maximum camera constraints, and go to minimum FOV. Nobody is around and no objects are moving. It's incredibly obnoxious.

add to this...if you are in a mature sim, and the sim goes down, and you get relocated to another area...it used to be the next sim over, or the like...now it's those welcome station things...which of course always seem to be PG! showing up there naked isn't the best thing to do...please make Mature go to Mature, PG go to PG.
