Farewell Woodbury

Quote:
Linden Lab has seized the sims and even mainland parcels of Woodbury University run by Tizzy Teardrop (the former Tizzers Foxchase) and has also the MCFX group which MC Fizgig used to own the land for the Woodbury/Digital Woodbury Hat.

Some of the main Woodbury goons, starting with Tizzy Teardrop and MC Fizgig are gone from the People list. I see Joanna Falmer, an alt of Tizzy's is gone; so is Merato Zilz, another frequent-flyer event griefer; Crawlingin Meskin (who was said to be a newish Hazim Gazov alt), Maayan Warden, Katelyn Manamiko are all gone.

One of the orphaned Woodbury grefiers reported:

The group Woodbury University is still findable in search, but when you try to pull it up, you get Nobody as founder.'

Yeah, because smacking a bee hive has absolutely NO ramifications whatsoever.

Lum, on SC found this gem:
Woodbury U. Banned From Second Life, Again - Wired Campus - The Chronicle of Higher Education
Quote:
"Linden Lab has decided to no longer support Woodbury University in Second Life," said an e-mail notice sent to Edward Clift, dean of the university's School of Media, Culture & Design. "We are making this decision based on historical and recent events that constitute a breach of the Second Life community standards and terms of service. We ask that you please respect the decision and do not take part in the Second Life platform in the future." No further details were provided.
And it's not even my birthday.

You know, I can't think of a single griefing event I could attribute to Woodbury. I've heard of lots of griefing events, mostly from the JLU which is a less than reputable source of information on the subject, but I've never actually seen anything.

I visited their sim, the campus was very nice, with levels of creativity I hadn't seen in SL for a long time, and the people there were far from trolling griefers jumping on any chance to screw with someone.

Either way, it didn't work last time, I don't see why it would work this time.

Yeah Woodbury were griefers, but they were crap.

Nowhere near the quality of V5 back in the day.

And yes, they were griefers. For fucks sake, they let the PN do whatever the hell we wanted on their sims for a while until LL caught on.

However, I have a feeling that I'm next, despite the fact that the only grieferish thing I do is bomb the shit out of LordGregGreg Back's parcel whenever Emerald isn't working.

It does appear that the lab is doing some spring cleaning. Anything that is or has appeared to be troublesome seems to be in the firing range at the moment. Alligned with the bigger picture of moving anything 'adult' to it's own ghetto continent, tpv policies et al and the rush to get viewer 2 out of beta and maybe something bigger really is afoot.

As far as I know they're still barking up the corporate tree in a hopeless endeavor to bring the glory days of SL 2007 era back, where SL was in the news listed among Facebook, twitter, et all as the next big thing of Web 2.0 blah blah blah, until the corporations realized how insanely limited it was and that they didn't have any direct control over their content, and that all their grand advertising ideas didn't quite translate into the environment. They abandoned ship and have no intent of coming back to SL. LL seemingly is refusing to believe this, and it seems a number of the major changes made are geared towards attempting to make SL more appealing to the corporate entities that dumped it back then.

Alas - all the 'reports' I see give JLU FAR too much credit for ANYTHING.

Oddly enough, considering their normal Woodbury ties, they've not seen fit to post an article about it yet, but it's still pretty recent news.

Most of the estate managers were banned. Other members were mostly left alone, although a few more have poofed over the last couple days. People with rap sheets, I would guess. I don't really know.

Whoever actually griefed will probably come back, just like with V5.

I'm told GLC/JLU are claiming "victory over Woodbury." I suppose now that they have won, and there will never be griefing in secondlife again, they can get back to constantly violating Marvell/DC trademarks and focus their attention on their ongoing war against virginity and morbid obesity.

Prokofy is doing this:

I am currently assembling a fleet of words to counterattack her here.

The Woodbury University group does not take part in any griefing that I am aware of. Occasionally some PN griefers come to the university campus, but if necessary they are dealt with.

The members of Woodbury University use their sims to be creative, build impressive builds, or just hang out talking, watching youtubes or whatever. It's all quite harmless. Unlike the JLU, they don't go around griefing people all over the grid.

Since joining Woodbury University last October, I have never seen anything sinister happen in the sandbox or elsewhere, but I have met many truly nice people and seen more creativity than anywhere else in Second Life.

WU is as innocent as JLU is effective and LL is fair.

The truth is going to be somewhere in the middle of these 3 things, and very unlikely to ever be uncovered.

I'll miss the people I met here and there in and out of SL, but at the end of the day it's a shrugfest for me.
