Certainly the oldest sim but in terms of build, Governor Linden's Mansion is the oldest - Built by the first ever resident Stellar Sunshine during Alpha testing . There are one or two older objects dotted around but as a complete place this is the eldest still surviving. You can find it in the Clemantina region

The temple of the burning man in Da Boom is very old (May 2004 based on Inspect), and I can't seem to find anything else that old on the sim. You're right though, Governor Linden's mansion seems to go back to July 2002.

There's *got* to be a lot of stuff older than May 04.

There's probably prims I'd left behind from building accidents still not picked up, from before then (different account, not Des).

A good bit of Nova Albion has to predate that. Lordfly would prolly know. Ivory tower of primitives is older than that, though, it's been rebuilt now and again, maybe not all of it is that old.

Here's one from July 2003... This is said to be the oldest user build in SL -

World Map, SL Alpha. 16 sims tie as "oldest".

The lower left corner of DaBoom is the Zero Point from which all regions are positioned on the Grid.

The Slate Railroad is still around, built by Athos Murphy. It was built before I came into SL in July 2003.

Also, There's the Periwinkle train station building I did for the same railroad line; maybe January 2004?

Also:

Kazenojin still exists in Gray (see attached map from June '03 -- SL's official opening?), and Joan's Bar & Marina in Kissling (on the border with Boardman) dates from April '03.

Much of my stuff in Freelon was built in mid-2003 and still stands.

That map is from after October '03. Umber and the ones up top were added end of '03, beginning of '04.

When I started in October '03, it was over the 16 sims (as in that other map) but less than this map.

Extreme quality builds made by people who respected the medium a lot more than now, when prims and opportunities to build come by the bucketloads.

Freelon's next door to me -- I think I'll go do some Inspecting in a little while.

(we need a smilie with a deerstalker hat and a magnifying glass...)

Is that the monument that records the name of the closed-beta testers? I've seen reference to that at the SL Historical Museum that Ariane posted about in the "Interesting times" thread. I'll see if I can find it.

The Beta Wall

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Plum/122/54/33

You can pick up a notecard about it at the Historical Museum (see my last post for the slurl), which includes the list of names.

The build date is 6/19/03

The Plum Welcome Area (Sept. '03) still stands, too, to the northwest of the Beta Wall.

Just got done doing a bit of poking around in the "old" sims and it reminded me of what really drew me to SL in the first place. The crazy mad, eclectic mix of Wow and WTF that seems to make up large areas of SL.

I don't know if this is still around (this pic is from 2008) but I think this is at the Governors Mansion.

The first place in SL that I enjoyed hanging out at, Joan's Marina (built by the Nomads in Kissling, I believe) is still around. Not sure how old it is though.
