Second Life Bot Policy: No Real People!

Morons!

Long and short of it?

Store owner got yelled at for using real people as models/customer service reps.

Brilliant!

They have a place in the SL website where you can go and register your models/bots with LL so they can be excluded from the traffic scoring. This was part of the plan from the start. Is that what they forgot/neglected to do? I don't see how an active, responding avatar would fit the mold of a model, but if it's determined that the "employment" of models/customer service reps standing on camping pads is for the express purpose of gaming the traffic calculation it's a violation of the ToS.

I went to an pose store where they had a customer service rep, I thoguht it was a great service and much appreciated, I even tipped her, but oh dear, she'd count in traffic scores.

How many reps does your friend have?

So does that mean a store owner has to register themselves if they spend time intheir store to avoid being accused of gaming? C'mon, LL. Your traffic system is a failure. Scrap it, instead of these idiotic rules to try to prop it up.

Current issue aside, I'm just trying to imagine what it would be like to hang out there for any length of time as one of these people.

It would either be:

a) No big deal since you just hang out and talk with friends anyway for a while, who cares what position the avatars are in, or,

b) ...the most incredibly boing, mindbendingly brain numbing experience there ever was, made worse by the fact that others were there too and you ran out of stuff to say.

Surreal stuff, huh?

Though I've seen stranger things, certainly.

I've been to the busiest shops in SL and there's really nothing for the rep to do unless something goes wrong or someone needs help finding something, and there's NO excuse for multiple reps except at special events; that's just gaming the traffic score and that's what everyone used to bitch about. In reality if something goes wrong in a shop you can ping the rep with an IM ... you know like the big TV place (I forget their name) .. so the whine doesn't hold up unless you just like the drama of wanting something fixed but, you know, not if it gets my friends busted.

LOL and just what do those 30 employees do? Oh, yes ... stand around and increase traffic? They can't put out merchandise or arrange the store or fix anything ... this isn't the local RL mall.

Isn't tagging up to "scripted agent" status voluntary at this time?

Always freaks me out when I wander up to a model standing there spinning in place look closely at her outfit and she goes "Hi there!"

it would be like a RL manaquin talking!

There is not a facepalm emote or picture in the world that can adequately describe my feelings toward this, Yet Another Act of Supreme Idiocy on the part of Linden Lab, particularly on its governance team!

Next, they'll be suspending the accounts of club owners all across the grid for having staff on hand at each event (some of the larger clubs run 24/7 with a complement of live staff at each two-hour division). This sets an extremely dangerous precedent with ramifications for everyone grid-wide. If there is anyone here who does not feel threatened by this precedent, then that person either does not fully understand the implications involved, or lives in complete isolation.

Edit: Is it just me? Or is anyone else seeing a rather disturbing pattern in the sharp increase of half-baked policy changes and enforcements lately?

The answer is quite simple really. A "Don't count me in traffic" box in one's profile for employees. When you start working flag yourself "No Count".

Another simple solution would be for LL to not include agents wearing the parcel's group tag in traffic calculations.

How about LL institute a mandatory common sense test and get rid of anyone that doesn't understand traffic and profile picks raising search relevance is retarded.

Oh wait wouldn't want LL looking like...

Why is "traffic" still around? It's always been badly gamed to the point where it's meaningless. Now they're waving the banhammer at anyone who even remotely looks like they might be a bot?

Just eliminate traffic scoring and the problem goes away. POOF!

No, you missed the point. Bots are okay if they are registered. Real people are not okay.
