Selling Used Animations?

I was at Sine Wave looking for some dances and someone sent me a LM to a place selling "used animations." From what it looked like, they were selling the transferrable (no-copy/no-mod) animations that others have bought and sold to them. Of course, theoretically, since they are no-copy, once purchased they would probably disappear from the sales list, but I don't know, and am obviously concerned about the creator and the possibility of stolen animations. Anyone encounter anything like this before? Could this be legitimate, or just another way of hiding the copying?

most animations are what... 250? 300L each? 500-750L for couples dances?

Pretty cheap for an endless supply of dancing fun. I'd forego the morally ambiguous reseller market and just buy from the source.

It's very possible the reseller is trying to foist off exploited animations - why else would they be cheaper than the originals? There is no degeneration or depreciation in SL.

If the animations were truly being resold on a regular basis by these individuals, 1) they for sure wouldn't be trying to sell them at the source and 2) they would have to be more expensive unless these were simply duplicates that they just wanted to get rid of.

Well, if they are indeed legitimate, and the animations are transferable, no-copy, then they would disappear from the store after being bought. At least as far as I know. It would work somewhat like buying used CD's in RL. Cheaper than the original. But in SL it is something that I'm leary of. Definitely don't want to support someone doing something illegal or against the ToS.

I had a feeling it wasn't legitimate, which is why I asked here.

Eku discussed this in the merchants group and one member called concierge, who then began taking the stuff down.

And yet there are still lots of vendors there right now.

If they are selling them from a vendor they are not used no-copy anims. You can not sell a no-copy asset from a vendor, you can only sell a no-copy asset in a "for sale" via "sell original"... and after you buy it you have to pick it up from in-world.

Incidentally, really selling used no-copy stuff is completely legitimate. There are yard-sale places in-world where people sell stuff they bought and no longer need for less than they paid for it just like in real life.

But they aren't selling them from scripted vendors or via "buy copy" or "buy contents" boxes.

theyre using the standard prim stand and animate animation vendor. It is possible to see the contents of the prim.
I checked the prim contents, bought one of the animations, and then checked again after recieving it. It was still in the contents. I sent IM to Sinewave and the other place .. 3something.. its up to them to do make LL do something now.
