Bot detection

While doing the MHOH hunt, I tp'd in to the next store on the list. After the usual invitation to join the group (declined), I got a pop up that said it was doing "bot detection".

Script said "[10:08 AM] Anti Bot - Bot Detector v1.2: Please answer the question in the blue box."

Asked me to choose the answer to "1+1"; when I answered, it replied,
"[10:08 AM] Anti Bot - Bot Detector v1.2: Correct, Thank you, I have added you to the Human list "

Is this actually useful? Thoughts?

It sounds as annoying as the 2 or 3 popups already given at most places.
Congrats on making a list though!!

Don't know - once you answer, it doesn't come back - I had popped back to the tp point and re-entered, and didn't get it.

No, it's not useful, it's a complete waste of time, just like all the other spammy bot detectors.

Last time I screwed with bot detectors, the bot detector was looking for missing clothing layers, altough I think that's been fixed now.

Sheesh! You could let us know the answer just in case we meet the same bot?

It's a gridwide bot detection system, if an avatar does not answer or answers the question wrong it will be added to the bot-list and autoejected from all places across the grid running this system.

Very usefull tool if you happen to run sploders (or other events which pays random avatars).

Very handy for excluding those who don't speak English as well from places across the grid. And then there are those who lag or TP out before getting/reading the question or crash.

Well, they could also report those who answer wrong to to LL, and then LL could check to see if they are on the 'list' of bots.

IM the owner "stuff yer little bot detector where the sun don't shine....is that 'human' enough for you?"

A gridwide "bot-detecting" version of ban link.

How useful.

Personally I'm of the opinion that places that use that aren't places I want to go to - so I guess 2+2 = 'your mothers a whore'

Ok, it's useless if you're not running a gambling operation under the radar.

AWESOME!

That means if I have to be afk or do crash for a moment while this system kicks in, I get banned from a whole slew of places I probably wouldn't want to be at in the first place?

Sign me up, sounds like a solid system where Nothing Can Possibly Go Wrong (TM)

In the interest of science I looked up one of the outlets selling this Bot Detector and teleported in to find a rather sad sight of 9 wetware avatars standing motionless whilst one jigged about as if she was having a serious stack dump . They seemed to be focussed on a twirling orb on the Ceiling , which was the only object talking in the whole region . It warned people that if they were asked a mathematical question they should answer it or be branded BOT. I walked around a bit for 5 minutes but wasn't challenged once , this is a shame as the one function which activates my enjoyment circuits is doing sums . Maybe the detector can't read the "Scummy Survey Bot" tag I was wearing ?

I hit the ignore button on all blue popups when I land just as fast as I can. I don't even read them.

And then a lot of the time I'll just find somewhere else to be.

What happened to a simple "click me for a notecard" sign in a conspicuous location?

Makes it nice and optional and minimally intrusive.

And they could have embedded both the group invite link and the LM right in the info card.

I don't need:

A) group invite
B) all about the store notecard
C) landmark.

And all three of those every time I tp there (if I ever even go there again).

---

And why the stupid concern about bots? Is this some stupid assumption that it will protect them from Cryolife?

Really, the bots that are the bane of SL are the damned traffic-mongering bots. Really, a sim doesn't need 15 extra avatars that aren't doing anything but taking up space.

Maybe just as well that it's a "ban system" -- it'll keep me out of the stores of idiots.

This one kind of causes something in my head to break every time it pops up on my screen. I managed to find the store, which means I'm capable of LMing it myself. It would only be useful if my brain fell out mid-TP, which, given the frequent problems with teleporting, might be possible.
