Guess my intuition was right, AND I should have read further.
Never tried to say I was a "man's man straight guy" (whatever that means LOL). Just used straight as its most basic meaning. But yes, your intuition was right.

Thank you, everyone, for one of the most interesting and thoughtful threads to grace SLU - the degree of personal insight so many have displayed here is impressive, and humbling.

For my part, I'm quite freeform in my SL self - I'll flip genders routinely, sometimes species as well, though I've never tried human; it just doesn't feel right for me.

This is what I love about SL - the whole fluidity of it.

It makes me wonder sometimes though, why I'm only comfortable as human. I have friends who are furries, I have a handful of furry avatars of my own (including a cute orange fox that I rather like). But I've never felt totally comfortable being furry for any significant length of time. A couple of hours dress-up for a party, sure. But for the most part I really only want to be human.

Or an elf. Elves rock.

I kinda do the same thing! For a long time I had about six or seven avatars I would swap between! I was always a hyena at heart, but eventually I just settled on being one all the time.

I do have a human version of my avatar, oddly enough. It was something interesting for me to explore, as weird as that sounds. xD I was thinking about making some sort of hybrid at some point. (Even though a furry is an animal human hybrid to begin with, right?)

I think it's not something that has to be wondered about really, you know? It's all in what you're comfortable with. And while a fox can certainly be the same color as you, it isn't you. I think most of us on SL have this ideal, "I sure wish I could be that" thing goin' on. And for me, that ideal is a miscolored hyena. I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable wearing around say, an elf avatar (no matter the fact that elves are sexy!) for more than a few hours.

I have over 300 avatars, and none of them are even nominally human. I suppose I suffer from species dysphoria.

Every time I see you, you're wearing something else!

Me too.

What I find amazing is that my avatar has a realistic female shape. I stuck a pair of glasses on her, a cardigan and a messy pony tail. I thought she looked cute and sort of real...but i was actually asked if i was a griefer because my avatar "is ugly"

Most of me is pretty traditionally male, and yet, some kinda girlish aspects got thrown into the "box" as well!

I like to think that makes me more interesting

Come to think of it, going all the way back, though, I do put on some over-sexualized clothes sometimes when I want to be approached. Although that doesn't seem to work due to all the mostly - naked people around. I guess I'm as guilty of that as people in the article.

Latex doesn't count as "naked".

Just a suggestion.
