I won't be doing anything in SL on the 5th .Instead I will be carrying torches and burning people in effigy like the rest of my town - this year I suspect a lot of bankers will be sacrificed , maybe one year it will be copybotters but as bad as they are for SL , in RL they are low on the list.

And on the 6th - the local schools are closed , the town recovers from its one day of anarchy and the pubs are full - I probably won't do anything in SL then either

Good grief. Our local Guy Fawkes night is a pathetic little firework display in a pub car-park. Where is that??

You know sometimes I wonder - do we celebrate that Guy Fawkes was caught trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament, thereby preventing a national Disaster...

...or are we celebrating the fact that at least he tried?

Lewes in East Sussex - Sussex in general is big on bonfire and all the towns and villages hold their own on different dates between September and the end of November , so the local Bonfire societies travel around the countryside. The Climax is always in Lewes on the 5th which has 7 separate societies - each as good (and now professional) as any major council show . It dates back (with big gaps) to before Guy Fawkes and also commemorates 17 protestant martyrs burnt at the stake in Lewes under Queen Mary 50 years before Guido . Each society holds about 5 to 6 parades round the town over the night with a final display by their bonfire with every one in fancy dress - It has a long tradition of anti-conformity and anti-authority with the county militia called out to suppress it in the 19th century on more than one occasion A grand night out (It's supposed to be the 2nd largest fire festival in Europe - The Valancian Fiera is the 1st)

This is often the way but it shouldn't discourage those who want to make a point, they should stand firm.

People care, they just don't support the 'boycott' approach. It's also short notice for the alternative sales, so that probably won't be all that visible either.

Getting a flu shot, unless they run out of flu shot stuff. If they do I'll blame it on the bankers and lite one up in protest.

tbh I don't think any one particular effort is going to be all that visible. SL is so fragmented into forum followers and blog followers and fashionista packs and people who are blissfully unaware of blogs, forums or packs, that any visibility will be contained within small groups.

I think it's good that different people are doing different things. More people will be reached that way. Anything that helps raise awareness of content ripping, even in one person, is worth the effort I think
