Since I'm already half-way through my INVENTROY CLEARANCE SALE!!! in which I've marked down most of my merchandise to $L50 or less, there's not really much left to do on my end.

I could close down my store for two days, but since my sales have practically come to a stand still over the last month, I greatly suspect that no one would notice.

You and me both ..... sales fell through the floor the last few weeks! I have a plan though. I am going to copybot all my stock and then AR myself. I'll probably get a ban but that will stop me spending money so in the end I might break even!

I'll be buying stuff and then I'll be blogging about all the places that have sales and/or new releases.

And at some point, I will probably mock the ones who thought shutting down was a good idea.

I chose "nothing different"...

I've given up trying to wrap my mind around, and then blog about "Yes, plagiarising and counterfeiting are wrong, but the 'economy' is a mass self-delusion to begin with and the "mountain" is still a molehill..."

So I'll be doing what I usually do: talking to friends while hanging out in clubs and tipping DJ's the equivalent of USD 0.40 (L$ 100) for 2 hours of music they've downloaded without paying for.

And we DJ's thank you for that. And if you tip us 3 times that'll pay for one of the songs we actually bought.

Cost effective? Not even close.

Well they picked a good day for it - rolling retards going on, so I guess a lot of places will be effectively closed for one of the days

As for me - around 6pm I'll be starting on the lengthy process of getting stuff ready for a 2 day 1/2 pricer......and still releasing stuff, just in case the sale alone doesn't get up the noses of the 'closers' enough.

Yeah, I don't get the idea of "building awareness", it is really just letting more people know thievery is possible, & creating thieves by the dozens, for every day these various campaigns run.

In some cases the protesters even point would-be thieves directly towards the "tools" they need, its free advertising for the developers of these things. I, for one, really wish they'd just communicate their concerns directly (and privately) to LL, instead of the general public.

I respect the ideas & the level of planning behind this & the basic intent behind these campaigns is great -- I couldn't agree more with their ideas! However, as someone who's been involved with organizing real life protests & direct actions, I am sorry to say, I think these anti-content theft campaigns are horribly ineffectual and the final effects are disastrous, running completely counter to the protester's good intentions!

I'm thinking of having a sale too. A huge 50% ON event. That's where everything costs an extra 50% on the regular price.

I'm going to be buying Siggy's things at 1/2 price, copybotting them, and selling them at full price! *diabolical plan in motion*

My 'education' (and the thought process in my idea anyways) was simply:

I make shit. This is where you can get it. It's pretty fucking affordable.

That's the be all and end all of my education, point, and agenda.

I voted for doing my usual stuff. But I am going to some of the sales, that is normal for me. If I hear about a sale and they have things I want, I go there.

I am not going to avoid the shops that close. Why "punish" them, they try to do what they think is right. And shops close for rebuild all the time, I survive that. What's 48 hours? Not much.

I guess i still don't understand how not selling my stuff helps me or hurts LL anyway. They don't get a commission. I understood the 'lets not upload for 24 hours' as a show of awareness or solidarity, but not sell anything for 2 days? With sales as bad as they have been, I'd just end up having to buy lindens to pay my shop tier anyway -- so who exactly feels the pain here?

I just made a freebie bear.. not for any kind of protest, just because it was November 5.

Yup we pretty much covered the futility of the entire 'protest shut down' not only in another thread - but also the last time they did it.

The breakdown:

If I don't upload stuff for 2 days, I will still have to upload it 2 days later.

If I don't sell anything for 2 days I still have to pay my tier with 2 days less sales.

In both cases you're inconvenienced and LL notices not a jot. If you close your doors, folks will just go somewhere else for what they want.

Which brings us to 'education' - tell folks they can get stuff for nothing, they will look for your stuff.....for nothing.

I brought up in other threads about how the entertainment / music industry (well small parts of it) are 'coming around' with actual solutions to problems other than threats and ad campaigns.. Netflix, ITunes, Rhapsody, have made it actually more convenient to legitimately get stuff than it is to copy tunes and movies.

This is what I think folks should look at in SL (though the idea was taken WAY too literally in the discussions) - Thats the way I look at the 'protest sale' idea.

A 2 day push of 'Here is my stuff, and its pretty damn affordable'

I doubt this will inconvenience anyone thats participated (certainly not the customers!)

What I will be interested in seeing is how folks do AFTER the 6th.

So far I'm running on the 'half of something is better than a whole of nothing' assumption...

And if it doesn't do anything - well, chalk it up to experience... which is always better than doing the same thing we did before that didn't work...... Gallipoli anyone?
