What did the naughty people do ?

What did the naughty people do ?

Last week I mentioned that I had been storing Second Life Incident Reports wsince the beginning of the month to build up a database similar to my Region Survey Database. A forum lurker who wants to remain anonymous, who read this , contacted me in-world and sent me the full past 28 months worth of published incident reports (21600+). I cannot thank the person enough for providing this data.

The data is now fully imported into my database and cross linked with my region tables,so here is an initial poke at the mass of information .

Firstly I should point out published Incident Reports are only those AR's which have been resolved and where a warning or suspension has been made. It doesn't seem to cover bans or suspensions due to account issues or the other strange reasons Lindens use to suspend people. They also cover Teen Grid as well as the Main Grid.

In total I now have data which seems complete from 7th Jun 2007 up to the current time, at the moment this comes to 21665 published incidents.

Over time there has been a decline in the number of reported incidents as can be seen below:

In particular there seems a big fall in published incident reports at the beginning of this year.

There are 91 unique types of violations in total, the most common was Community Standard: Assault, Scripted Objects which covers 3654 incidents , The full list is as follows :

There are slight differences between the most common violations between the 3 years I have data for . The following charts show the 15 most common violations by year and for the whole period

Whilst there are common violations over time, some particular violations change in frequency over time, for instance, the distribution of Gambling incidents is as follows

Network advertising incidents have zero presence before Octo 08 when they were made against the TOS.

Recently there has been a growth in a new type of violation, Identity Confirmation, which todate is the most frequent violation reported in September.

So that gives us some idea what people do , now lets look at where they do it, here there are very little suprises with Public Help Islands, Sandboxes and Info-bubs dominating the list, with No Specific Region being the most common. Help Island Public hosts over 4% of all published incidents.

The list of all regions with at least 20 incidents in this period is as follows:

Code:
No Region Specified	1895
Help Island Public	880
Sandbox Island	698
LiaisonLand	670

Now lets look at what happens to these naughty people :

52% of published incidents result in a Warning, the rest in a suspension of 1 to 14 days.

Over time there has been a relative decline in the number of incidents which result in suspension as can be seen below:

Hope this has been of some interest

Every incident report has a description , and whilst I've not read all 21000, this one really did make me giggle and needs it's own post - I just wish I'd been in the Fortuna Region on the day after Christmas 2007

Wow! nice work Tyche.
My only complaint is with the pie graphs. I find a lot of the colors too similar to distinguish the difference.

As far as I know "Identity confirmation" means "someone was reported as underage, and asked to send in proof of identity".

that may be some cases, but from the descriptions it also seems to cover Missing registration details as well, though the most common description seems just to be "Terms of Service" . I believe it's a general push to ensure that peoples registration details are real , but I could be wrong

It's a shame about Sandbox Cordova and Goguen. The "social sandbox" experience is one that drove me to create and contribute in the first place, but these days, every sandbox is either a ghost town, or in the process of being brought to a crawl by a massive pile of scripted annoyances. Not surprised to see those two near the top of the list.

See the thing is, in California where Linden Lab is, ferrets are not legal. My guess is that this was a bunch of ferrets in California disguised as hedgehogs to avoid the law.

It says at the top of that list that 111 accounts were suspended for 14 days for Community Standards Violation: Assault, Scripted Objects. At the bottom of the list it says 2 accounts were suspended for Copyright Infringement

I based what I said on what you quoted originally:

If you read just that part you quoted, that is how I got my interpretation.
I'm going by the colon after Service, then it says Copyright Infringement 2.
